The AZ Room @ The Derby City Classic

Well, I'm back early; that freaking snowstorm totally screwed up my plans.

Many thanks to the contributors so far, I'll make a list later today; then send e-mails to the players who have pledged, and we'll start collecting money.

My thought is that with so many people pledging, that the table time will be allotted ONLY to people who have contributed. I also think that contributors may bring friends to watch, but not to play.

Pro's should be allowed in without contributing (as "friends of AZB"). Pro's should be defined as anyone with whom OHB will not gamble:) :). If OHB doesn't have the nuts on you, then YOU'RE A PRO.

I have in mind that any excess funds should be used for a large dry erase board to list events as they are scheduled. As you will see DCC is a very hectic, and constantly changing environment. Our professional appearances may be on somewhat short notice - but it would be GREAT to have a bulletin board that people can check periodically to see what they shouldn't miss.

Other excess funds may go to food/beverages. If several people brought coolers, we could keep ice there; and I'll kick in for some plastic cups for sodas. Keeping cold beer would require a LOT MORE coolers; but is still possible.

I have in mind that I may go down just for the day the first Saturday, maybe just hanging out all day in the room to get things started (watching bank pool for me is like a pig doing arithmetic - somewhat senseless).

It seems that if the room is busy, then the table should be a challenge table for single one-pocket games, short race nine ball (3 to 5 games ????), single full rack bank pool games, very short race 9-ball bank games, or short 14.1 games (50 points max.; though thats not much of a game). We should probably leave it up to the players to decide the stakes, but there should probably be a $5 minimum.

We can put the "waiting list" on the dry erase board. When your name comes to the top, then you are next on the table (should really never be longer than an hour wait at most if you are next). If you have a match-up, then the 2 of you sign up together, and you will have a slot (after you play the guy at the table). Anyone not there when their name comes up can either be erased, or put to the bottom of the list. WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK ABOUT ALL OF THIS STUFF???

Sarah Rousey has offered to play an hour of challenges; so anyone not afraid to get beat by a girl; get your rear down to DCC.

P.S. - I like the idea of a challenge table. I think in many ways it will force the players (who are somewhat shy and clique-ish) to meet some new people, make some new friends, perhaps play some new games, and get started (for those who are reluctant) into the world of small stakes gambling. Please don't bring the kid's college money.

P.P.S. - when I say "challenge table", it is NOT in the traditional sense. The person at the table leaves the table after his second match, win or lose. That way every player gets 2 matches when it is his turn at the table. When the pro's are at the table, they play challengers until they are sick of it.

Everything sounds great so far just let me know where and when to make my contribution and I'll be there saturday afternoon. I just started playing onepocket about a month ago and would love to get some cheap lessons from some of you Onepocket pros.
Thanks Bora

derby city

I am not sure of my attendance dates yet but I think tbone1213 ,myself and a couple friends will be coming to the event but count me in for the $.

I am not going to be able to attend this year, but I AM GOING in 07'.

I am in the sign business and I will be glad to donate an AZ BILLIARDS banner so people will be able to locate the room from afar. OHB or Williebetmore let me know what you want it to say and the dimensions. I will take care of the rest.:)

Here is a preliminary run-down of finances so far. I think its fair to say we have enough cash - OHB, let Greg Sullivan know IT IS A GO.

Now everyone needs to send AT LEAST the amount they pledged. Send more if you like, we have a LOT of things we can do with the extra. Remember "no pay, no play." Others who want to contribute need to PM me immediately. We need to receive the funds BEFORE DCC starts.

Williebetmore = $100
sjm = $50

WBM, I'm down for whatever....I'm sure that AZers are professional enough to behave properly so I doubt we're gonna run into instances with people fighting over table usage and all. I for one, would love to see pros play short races, and I wouldn't mind getting my ass handed back to me for cheap $5 sets either.

Sizl, I think that the sign contribution is TREMENDOUS and a really great idea!

thanks,

The official email should come, after payment is received.

Tracy

Tracy,
I think I will just make an official list to leave with SemperFi at his booth with everyone's name who has paid. As long as you have I.D., then you should have no problem playing. Make sure to give me your real name when you send payment.

Maybe some more good news - MAYBE!

Willie, glad your back. Hate to say I told you so (about the snow) - But I told you so.
How do you like the idea of the contributors using an email from you to confirm their payment & to get access?

Your correct - I don't play unless I THINK I have the best of it. Who does and still has any money?
But the Big Key word is THINK. I have been wrong a lot lately.

The good news I'm working on with Greg is another room that adjoins this room. Greg is going to get back to me about if we can have it also. It would just be for lounging and a place for us Old Farts to tell lies.

As far as the board - Last year I had to use the fax in the main office and the general manager was very nice and accommodating. I think they might make some of these supplies available to us. They have a nice office with all the equipment for business people.

How are you going to have the funds forwarded to you? I have a credit card machine in my office and along with the (800) # it may be the quickest and most efficient. I also accept PayPal but that cost me money so I don't like that idea. - Thanks, Tom
Ps. - There is a lot more going on the first few days besides Bank Pool. Especially in the Lounge. Who is that Pic of w/ Jimmy Mataya in an earlier post on this thread?

OHB,
I will send an official e-mail to all whose check has cleared; and I'll give an authentic copy to SemperFi along with the names of all approved players.

Check or money order will be fine - no one plays til the check clears.

I'll call the manager this week and see about a dry erase/chalk board - and hell, maybe an ice tray/bin like they have on buffet's.

Could you call Greg Sullivan and tell him we have $1200 pledged so far??? Make sure he doesn't give away our room.

P.S. - Yes, you told me so - does that mean I owe you another drink? Maybe I just need to bring a freaking bottle of Drambuie.

sizi - That sounds Great - If Mike & Steve don't have one for us.

I haven't heard back from Mike or Steve about the Banners or Badges yet but it is still early and they both are pretty busy. If they don't respond by say Christmas, you could just make up one saying -

Haha, I like!

Timberly - You sound like my kind of gal.

Timberly said:
Something that wouldn't need a lot of coolers would be a keg.

The hotel might not like the idea. I have a draft dispenser on my deck and it is a hassle to keep clean and regulated with gas. I also find that people tend to drink A LOT more (of easily accessible draft beer) than they would with cans or bottles. I know I do and it gives me a headache.
Also you are limited to that particular brand for everyone. I myself won't drink anything but Budweiser but most are drinking that diet Light stuff now a days. I think coolers with the beer brand and your name on it is the way to go. JMHO

Thanks, Tom

Sounds good Tom, just let me know pretty quick as I will be out of town for the holidays from Dec.23rd until Jan.3rd.

I like the layout you formatted, but let's take it a step further. Mike sent me the artwork for the AZ logo, so lets implement the logos into the banner.
Do you know if Onepocket.org has a logo? I did not see one on the website.

Tom, I was thinking of something like this...........

THE
AZBilliards.com
OnePocket.org
Room Of Excellence

AZLOGO
1P LOGO

Have all of the "celebs" that stop by the room to sign it and then auction it off with the proceeds going to a needy charity on behalf of AZ and 1P.ORG.
Just my 2cents!
I have attached AZ's logo. Let me know what you think Tom. Thanks!

I love it - I just sent Steve over at OnePocket.org a PM and asked him to get back a.s.a.p. - If he doesen't have one - Maybe you could make up something. Hell, he might like it and buy it from you.
- Thanks, Tom @ (800) 645-3913 - 24/7/365

I just heard from Grady Mathews, and he will do a one hour, one pocket seminar - the exact time to be decided once I get there on Wednesday.

Sarah Rousey has graciously offered to do one hour of challenges.

I've offered Linda Carter free playing privileges for one hour of challenges.

Do people want to have a raffle, with the winner playing a top pro, race to 7??? The raffle proceeds could be divided 75/25 between the winner and loser of the match. Leftover funds at the end of the week could be plowed into the kitty. Possible pro's could be Sarah Rousey, George Breedlove, Jeanette Lee, Buddy Hall. Somebody said they know Danny Basavich. Isn't there also a Cory Deuel stakehorse on the forum? This is all just speculative, but are there any names that everyone would overwhelmingly prefer, and we can pursue them.

Would anyone like to see a repeat of the Pagulayan-Schmidt straight pool epic in the AZB room??

My check is in the mail.

Williebetmore - With everything else going on, I forgot to pledge my funds for the room. I will have a check in the mail tomorrow for $50. In addition, I plan to offer a specially priced OHB- St Louie, Louie Poster (who didn't know that) for the members in the room. Just $25 while they last. Over 200 have been sold for $75 to $150. SUCH A DEAL! And Only In America.
Thanks, Tom

I would like a raffle, but nothing too expensive please. The more pros, the better, I don't have a personal preference.

However, you should do a check on which dates are the best to get these pros down, cos everyone is coming on different days and it seems like you're only able to get some of the pros down for just an hour on a certain day. I'm down for the last 4 days Wed-Sat and I think some others too.

I would love to see Schmidt shoot some str8 pool, I've heard some great things about him.
