The best S/P's

Josey

I don't have experience with any SP's besides my new Josey....but I sure do like the Josey.

mark bear start at 250 for a piloted joint hmmn. diveney cheap shaft wood, ive had 2 of them. 2 each there own but i think diveney is overrated with his little butterfly thing. i play with a scruggs with no finish no fancy nothin and thats the way i like it. i just found that diveney was a corner cutter.....pun intended. i will be posting pics of my new jonathan spitz glorified sp soon, its done i just have to pic it up. this guy make 1 cue at a time. aaa shaft wood. im all about the little guy/ up&comers

I just received a Jensen Ebony Butterfly Dufferin Excaliber conversion sneaky off of Bamacues. I have to say its a monster hitter. Still looking for a scruggs sneaky though.

Well, after recently acquiring a custom sneaky from one of the top cue makers in the country, i have decided to do a collection of S/P's from all of the best cue makers. For some reason I love sneakys and feel it would be a nice collection. Just wanted everyones opinion on who they think makes the best S/P's. I have a few in mind but want to see what everyone else likes. Thanks for any input, its greatly appreciated.

I also share your love for quality sneakys. I curently own a: Tim Scruggs, '07 ebony Bluegrass, and a '06 bocote Sugartree. Good luck on your collection!

Well, I see what you're saying. However, speaking strictly about the
hit , I like the hit of my Diviney better than the hit of my Scruggs SP.
Just my own subjective opinion.
Mark Bear sounds reasonable. I'd like to try one but the little lady
says no more cues.

amen the ladies

Charlie,
The sneaky i acquired is an original 15 year old Richard Harris Bluegrass SP that one of the top players in the country pawned to me at an incredible price (he needed the cash). It has an amazing hit and, believe it or not, breaks better than any other cue that i have ever owned.

Beav, Good luck w/the collection, sounds like fun. When you say sneaky pete are you talking about the plain jane, stripped down versions? Would you include the "fancy SP's" with joint collar, butt capp, rings etc?

Have bot and sold a lot of cues but mostly regret selling an ebony Josey fancy SP which was a bit heavy for my tastes. It sure hit strong and sweet IMO.

Thats a pretty good list and close to what i was thinking Cubswin. Anyone else have input on sneaky's that they think are needed for an impressive SP collection?

A Chris Nitti if your lucky enough to find one!!
And for playability I would not hesitate to add Paul Dayton.

Well, i really enjoy plain jane sneakies, for example, the Bluegrass i have is 15 years old (before he even started signing his name or putting his stamp on it), the finish is gone and to anyone who didnt know better would look like a $20 cue. But the thing has a MONSTER hit to it and feels so good, so looks dont matter too much. At the same time i'm not completely prejudice to some fancy veneers or mild alterations, except wraps, i cant stand a sneaky with a wrap on it. IMHO, if a cue has a wrap, its not a sneaky.

Yep, mine is like that....I could not believe a shaft this nice on an s/p cue!! Complete shock! Having owned some more expensive customs, this shaft, in quality alone, beat their shafts, hands down!! And not one lick of roll on this baby...straight as straight can be. I do not know where Keith gets his shaftwood, but I bet he's guarding it closely! I know that I would...lol.

I'm not sure what wood your friend's Josey is constructed of, but I think part of the reason my Josey feels so stiff is because of the density of the ebony...but then again, I may not have a clue as to what I am talkin' about.

Lisa

I don't own a sneaky, but I have owned a couple of Josey's. I think the main reason for the stiff hit is the shaft taper. When I compare it to the shafts from my other cues, the Josey shaft seems thicker as you move up towards the joint.

In a weak moment of needing $$$ i sold the best damn cue I ever had.. It was a murray tucker sneeky... I would almost give my right arm to aquire another

my sneaky

I won this cue in a raffle here on AZ and I'm not just saying this cause it is mine but my Richard Harris Bluegrass sneaky pete is the nutts. I've shot with some good cues and even owned a few but as far as my taste and as far as what I look for in a player ,this cue is it. If you can get one at a good price jump on it. http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s345/good_lawd_yall/bgcue3.jpg http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s345/good_lawd_yall/bgcue4.jpg http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s345/good_lawd_yall/bgcue5.jpg http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s345/good_lawd_yall/bgcue6.jpg http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s345/good_lawd_yall/bgcue2.jpg http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s345/good_lawd_yall/bgcue1.jpg

The one I can't put down is my older Schon Black Widow. Evan Clarke has to be included as one of the top cuemakers, especially for playability

McDaniel, Mottey, Scruggs, Howard, Klein, Gilbert, Josey, Blackcreek, MasonH, and those Joss sneaky's from the 80's to mid 90's.

I would certainly add MasonH into the mix, though it will be hard to get a sneaky from him. I had one...much like every other cue I've owned its gone now.

Shortstop Sneaky Pete

If you walk into the main action room in So Cal, Hardtimes, you will see a lot of players shooting with plain jane sneaky petes. Beware. These sticks are made by the guy in the shop upstairs, Little Al Romero. He is the grand daddy of the sp in So Cal.

my fav s/p

i have a great hitting s/p its made by art cantando from what i been told there not alot of those out there

i have a few sp's

you should also consider BCM (Bryan Mordt). Good price, plays great and awesome workmanship.
