It's either a "custom" cue or 30 dollar chalk. Ya get a tailor made suit , and every detail is measured and made to fit the client. "Custom" cue makers...not so much. Normally only one or two lengths. That's not custom, any way you want to dice it.

You got guy's that are 6-8 with long arms, ya think they "like" playing with a "custom" 58" cue. One size fits all.

Who says you can't order a cue to the length you want? You make it seem as if it's against the law to build a cue over 58 inches.
 
"Custom" Usually refers to modifying one thing to make it different from standard. If you make a custom cue, you are changing certain aspects of a standard cue so that it is different in looks or feel. But if you make a cue that is 12' long, that's not custom.. That is a whole new animal. People customize cars all the time, but no matter what they change it's still a car.

The only issue I have with your statement is that it is wrong; other than that....

It's probably best to know what you're talking about before turning on your computer. Have you seen Earl play in the past two years. Things have changed. You can get whatever size cue you want.

Assuming the above "quote" is a question, I think there are some cuemakers out there that
could make the 6-8 guy with long arms a custom cue longer than 58".
Why take it out on the custom cuemakers because there are a few 6-8 guys with long
arms playing with 58" cues...:scratchhead:
I know some 6-4 guys with long arms playing with 63" cues, and ironically they like my 58"
not-so-custom customs, better than their own custom customs.
 
Cue length much like the length of golf clubs shouldn't change for a stroke. I love it when tall or short people say they need longer or shorter golf clubs. The only thing that changes is hosel angle and that is more dependent upon your swing than your height. Same with cues. The stroke is the same regardless of their height. Everybody's knees bend. Unless someone is too short to reach the side of the table it really shouldn't matter.
 
The chalk again :rolleyes:... one thing I don't recall being mentioned about the chalk, pool, like golf is a mental game, if you think the chalk is going to improve your game and give you confidence then it's worth the money , we all know value wise ,i.e. paying for what its worth, it's not , but honestly what is these days ?

The biggest farce in billiards - aside from actual billiards, which is tedious - is the 101 different sets of rules you have in English 8 ball. Still, that's the reason the likes of Melling have switched codes, so they're loss is our gain...

Well, basketball players still play with 10 ft rims. Why? That is what they grew up with.
Bill Meachem is about 6'7", I would guess, and as best I remember has played with the nromal sized 58-60 inch cues and plays at a very high level. WHY? That is what was available when he was learning, I would guess.
Ihad a frind who had a cue made that was 63 inches long and it was the most awkwardthing in the world. He was only 6'1" but loved it, until he went broke and hocked it.
How is a cue maker supposed to know what fits you best? It's about feel not what looks best unlike a new suit!

Who are the cue makers that only make a 58" cue? I think this topic boils down to that question.

There's more to customizing a cue than length. Weight, taper, stiffness, joint material, pin, diameter at grip, material of grip, weight distribution, etc. You can go to most master cue makers and get just what you want, and some will help you choose what is best for you.
But when cue makers use the term "custom" to describe their production cues, it's an insult to our intelligence.

I am 6'2" and I have a custom cue that is 60" long. My cuemaker had no problem with this at all. Maybe your dealing with the wrong people.

Also you need to consider that if you want to get a excessively long cue than you will need a custom case for it as well. A 60" cue with joint protectors barely fits in my case.

What will be your random complaint tomorrow? (I like to be prepared):thumbup:
