The birth of the DCC private room

I'm not sure what you are trying to say, Timberly, as your words are kind of cryptic, the part about the claims made by somebody else the other night.

I read the thread by OHB. Do you mean that the first private room at the DCC was first thought about by AzBilliards posters?

No ma'am, that's not what I meant. I shouldn't have said anything at all. The comment was more for the person that I was referencing. That's all I'll say about it since I'm not here to be controversial or confrontational. I'm only here to partake in my personal DCC thread and a couple of other DCC threads.

Overall, I just found the initial DCC private room thread interesting and thought others would enjoy reading how it all began. :)

Nice detective work Timberly....here are the quotes by Tom.

Hell, I might want to have a CRAP GAME on the table when it is my turn.

I just only hope all you fine people don't find out that I have been "Just A Lot Of Talk & No Action" as far as my playing capabilities go.
Oh well, I'll just have to bring some extra cash.

Mike - If I'm the Hustler, I need the table 24/7 for the entire tourney. If I'm the Hustleee, I'll only need it for about 20 minutes or so..

So NoStroke, the expert still think that Tom wasn't looking forward to the AZBilliard room as a great place to hustle the nice pool folk of AZ. Believe me, if Tom was in good health the first year, things would have been different.

Watchez,
Though I only knew Tom through AZB, I did have the opportunity to have several long discussions with him during the process of setting up the room the first year.

I can absolutely confirm what you say about Tom. He was all about the money. If he had been in good health, and if the room had turned out to be an "action" room; I'm certain Tom would have been right in the mix trying to get a piece. I also can confirm that he definitely saw it as a place for socializing as well; we both saw the room as an opportunity to build a real community from the "virtual" world.

Unfortunately, the cancer was really eating at him; he was not really able to participate in the arrangements for the room. At the venue, he had only minimal energy (but still enough to scrounge some action games in the action room).

It was obvious to him that the AZB room was just for resting and socializing; he was happy with that; and he brought Buddy Hall by several times just to sit and shoot the breeze. His main objective was the gambling, so he did not spend a great deal of time in the AZB room. I think you and Nostroke may both be right.

OldHasBeen would have been 61 years old today.

Here's a thread in his memory: http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=52759

May he rest in peace!

61 is all! Dammed cancer. He was just a kid. I'm 63 now and I can tell you for sure that it feels like life has a lot to offer down the road. I wonder how old a guy has to get before he feels like it's ok for it to be over. Maybe that just doesn't happen... unless there's a lot of physical or psychological pain involved.

I enjoyed OHB's participation here... I'm sure he did to. You folks are pretty good company/family.

It all started with the thread below. Later in the yr there were more threads and more ideas but this one is the first one. It's a very telling thread in that some claims made by someone the other night are dispelled.

The first private room at Derby thread....

Hi Timberly the dedicated girl,
Recently I mentioned that if I am alive I like to treat the AZBers (during the next tournament )for horsedvors and alcoholic drinks excluding wine.
I want to call it a `reception to AZBers` on friday Jan 4th in the evening with good food and beverages. The whole shebang shall be on my account only.if some body starts talking about sharing the expenses ,I will back off and I will not host it.The entire cost of the reception shall come from my pocket. But I need your help to organize it.
This monday I am going to make reservation for my suite in the hotel from 1/3/08 to 1/13/08.Timberly, I can`t do it with out yore help.

Will you finally be revealing your identity to the azb'rs? :D

That's one hell of an offer Vagabond. Beautiful gesture on your part and I should tell you that in the 5 or 6 years I've been posting here and especially over at the CCB I've grown to have great respect for you. This is the result of your always positive and helpful personality as exhibited in knowledgeable, respectful and temperate posts.

Jim,
You always have been too kind to me and I thank you.In the last few years I did reveal myself and I met some wonderfull AZBers.Next year in Derby city everybody will come to know who I am and in fact I will be waiting for that opportunity if I am alive.

Well that's what I get for taking time away from pool! Missed out again :(

I'd love to be there next year but doubt that I"ll be able to get away from my business, and/or the grandsons... and even if I could get away from those chains ( :) ) then my little Benji type mutt would impose on my freedom.

I can't help but notice your repeated reference to "if I'm alive". Did I, while I was absent, also miss something relating to your health? Sorry if I'm intruding.

No, you are not intruding at all because my usage of those words are an invitation for others to follow up on that. I am a legal minded person and I have the habit of using guarded language in some situations.I am in good health and I may be the oldest guy on this board but I can still run 100 meters in 13 seconds if my knee does not lock or get a muscle cramp during the course. My doctor said I am due for a knee replacement.

Understood! and glad to hear your overall health is good!! :) Getting older means that one by one the body parts start to wear out. Water pump, hoses, valve job, rings, bearings.... one by one they need work ... and damn some of them get sore.

Vagabond,
Well, I don't want to insult you, so I will show up and consume as much food and beverage as possible.

The AZB organizers have on several occasions lamented about the lack of a kick-a$$ party - perhaps this will fill the bill.

I hope you will find the time to stop by Betmore's Basement on the way to DCC - you have a standing invitation. It is possible that by then one of our mutual friends may have opened a new, upscale pool hall in Indy.

I know you and that gangsta from Detroit formed a team with Timberly in organizing the AZB room and I am hoping that you will continue to help organizing the AZB room including the reception I proposed.
Yes I love to hang around in Betmores Basement. That is in my do list.I have been missing driving around the country since I bought furniture, bed room set, vacum cleaner ,toilet bowl cleaning brush.etc and signed a lease agreement here in Albuquerque.

Sorry I am not a mind reader but I do know you have trouble seeing the forest thru the trees.

I don't know about Nostroke having trouble with his vision, but I am having trouble seeing the forest through the trees because I do not understand what the thread is trying to relay.

Is it that OHB was the originator of the private DCC room?

Is it that OHB, as an AzBilliards member, was an AzBilliards member who first made mention of a private DCC room?

Is it that OHB liked to play games of stake and wanted a private DCC room for this purpose?

Is it none of the above three possibilities?

Please enlighten me, so that I too can get in on: "The Birth of the DCC Private Room." Inquiring minds would like to know! :p

Jennie, this thread has nothing to do with what's going on between Watchez & Nostroke... they're continuing a conversation from another thread.

In going through Tom's old posts, I found the very first mention of the room... I simply thought most, esp those that weren't around then, would find it interesting to see how it all came about... from a simple idea. Vagabond had an idea for himself and from that, Tom elaborated and turned it into the DCC room.

I simply thought some people would find it an interesting read... that's it. No ulterior motive on my side. I did however notice some participation in that thread that dispelled something someone else had said in a "conversation" to me. That was not why I posted it and I shouldn't have mentioned anything about it whatsoever.

Vagabond, I was going to help you... behind the scenes, away from the forum, but I'm simply not going to be able to even do that. Williebetmore and Steve Lomako are great guys as you know and I'm sure one or the both wouldn't mind helping you out with anything that you need.

At this point I don't know if I'll be at Derby next yr or not. I'm currently so disgusted with some people in the pool world that at this point in time, I don't want anything to do with a lot people in the pool world (they know who they are) and I have no desire to try to be helpful about anythinig.

The asinine drama that I and everyone else here has been subjected to gets worse everyday. Luckily for most of you it's behind the scenes so not everyone is subjected to it.

The one thing about me is that I always have been and always will be a fan of the game. I've met some good friends here along the way and anything that I've done to help out with anything, was done with honest intentions of being helpful and had absolutely nothing to do with wanting or expecting recognition, or anything in return.

My life in pool was much simpler when I wasn't on the forums and simply knew a few players. In the last couple of yrs I've met a lot of people in the industry from promoters to cue makers and everything in between. There are some very nice folks on that end of the pool world but it's TOTALLY different than the pool world I'm used to. There are a lot of people that don't like each other and a lot of back stabbing that goes on.

I don't have time in my life for that kind of BS. Lesser people, some in that circle, have attacked me and my character... all because I do things like a stupid raffle to be helpful.

I've been contemplating this for about a month now and I've finally been pushed to my breaking point. I'm going back to being a simple fan of the game. I have absolutely no desire to post on the forums, try to be helpful, or really even speak to anyone in the pool world.

There are a few (vagabond, you're definitely one of them) that I will stay in touch with through email but that's it. I will not be returning back here so PM's (nice or nasty) will not be read and anything said in response to this post (nice or nasty) will not be seen by me.

To all the decent folks on here (you know who you are) I wish you all the best and to those of you that "get it" and had enough comprehension skills to see that I'm genuinely an honest person with good intentions, thank you.
