The Bucket List

post dated check

I just saw the movie The Bucket List yesterday. It's about two guys going to die in 6 mos or so. It got me to thinking. If you knew when you were going to die what would be the one experience you wuold want to have before you passed? Pool related, please.

Mine would be to test my skills on the table against the worlds top ten players, one at a time in a race. To be able to gauge my skill level and composure against the best would be the ultimate rush.

I would play 14:1 with George W. Bush for money, spot him 50 balls, lose, & write a 7 months post dated check on insufficient funds.

But then your children would have to cover it if you lost, or is that your point? :D

Been thinking about this a lot lately. I think I would through the cue in the case get a back pack full of clothes and jump on my R1 or ZX14, with the wife on her bike, and travel the country. Visit different pool halls, tournaments, and maybe a drag race or two.

Hey Jim,

This is not just directed at your response but at everyones and I think this is the message of the movie.

If this would be your last crusade why not take 6 months out of your life and do it! I know it goes against the grain of normalcy but why not. 6 months out of someones life is not that long. I think your wish is not out of line for a man's life long dream. This movie sure made me think about how I have spent the first 59+ years of my life. My life has been good but I do have some unfulfilled dreams as you and all the responders have. If you all have a chance go see the movie. It made me think and laugh and cry. I may not have the resources of the films key figure but it does make some sort of logical conclusions. Live while you can. JMO :D

awsome movie

I think I would want a couple of days to just hang out
and play some with maybe Efren and Earl (in a good mood Earl)
Also have Drew Barrymore in my corner telling me how good
I am hitting them and taking her home after the games were
over would make me the winner in my mind anyway ......roflmao:D
It would be nice to have a few of the guys I play with now
there to play in with two of the greats .

Run a hundred. By the way, I'm 61 and feel like I,m going to kick it any day now. Ran 92 last year.

I agree with everything you're saying, but the reason why...the Air Force won't give 6 months off to do it. I have to keep my job to pay my bills. I do have things in my bucket that I'm doing this year, though not pool related. The wife and I are going to Monteray, CA to watch the MotoGP race at Laguna Seca.

I can understand responsibilities. Thanks for serving!!! I work at Schriever AFB. Put your dream in storage and when time allows take it out and go for it. Enjoy the MotoGP!!

It's not lame at all. It's your Bucket and you can do whatever the H#LL you like. It's like they said in the movie. Do you want to lay around the house and have to console everyone because they are full of sadness for you. I wouldn't!! Alalbama at Auburn, one of the best rivalry in college football. :D :D

Thasa my cousin!

That's a picture of my cousin that I took. It looked so much like me on New Year's morn for years that I use it as my avatar. As you probably suspect, "Sophia" is Sophia Loren, the most beautiful woman in the world for three or four decades in my opinion. She is still a beautiful lady last I saw but I would actually trade her in on a later model now.

Regardless, Carlo Ponti is the only short fat man I ever envied.

The one experience I would want to have before I die

I thought about this one for a while. There are several experiences I can imagine that would be pretty sweet, but here's the one I picked. I am playing in the finals of a one-pocket tournament against a strong player (doesn't matter much who it is). It is hill-hill. My opponent breaks and leaves me a bank. I make the bank and go on to run 8 and out. In the stands are my wife and the dozen or so good friends I have in the world of pool.

Hill - hill, break and a bank to start, then a 1 pocket runout to win, with all your loved ones in the stands. The ultimate pool Bucket wish!! Nice. :D
