The Cold Case of Biloxi Mike Surber's Murder

I wasn't around when this took place but if the guy hasn't been caught and knows that people will continue to look for him, he could have very well assumed different identity unless he was married. Take Gulfportdoc as an example would anyone take him for a former drummer of the Frank Zapa and the MOI band? Of course finger prints and dna would certainly be a game changer if he was currently locked up all that info is shared and utilized.

I am not sure what you said. Reading the last few pages, seems like you were operating 0-100% margin of error:eek:

Wed all love to see this crime solved, but we shouldnt permit a desire to cause a get-him mentality rooted in hope.

All i said or tried to say is don't dismiss this guy just because he looks too young in a picture we don't even know the date of for sure.

Based on his most current picture, no way does the other one look only 6 years younger. That is why I question the 2012 date.

Surber was murdered in 2009. This is a photo of the guy taken in 2012.

I don't know now. Does not look similar anymore to me. My posts in this thread may self-destruct after Gulfport Doc weighs in.

That photo was actually from 2004

Man that photo from the classifieds group sure does look like the suspect from our case. But the pictures that Jam found on his FB don't at all, IMO. And, I know most criminals are dumb as rocks, but would the guy from our case, who has evaded capture for 10 years, be dumb enough to have a FB profile?

And the text on the photo about kidnapping and warrants, reads to me like he took the kid away from the ex wife, and now she is mad. So its more of a domestic issue, than a brutal killer type criminal. This is of course a pure hunch by me! Simply from seeing a picture.

You all right by me, ya tin bucket.

Do not associate the name "Jeff Cooper" with this case. He is simply the person who posted the photo and accusations of kidnapping toward "Christopher Sanderson", on Facebook. There is absolutely no apparent correlation to the previously used alias, "Jeremiah Cooper" or "Jerico Cooper".

Also, it is currently only speculation that the person of interest actually murdered Mr. Surber. Even if this Mr. Sanderson is indeed the person of interest in this case, let's spare further speculation for a trial and conviction.

To those who have remained vigilant in this case, nice work! However, until a suspect has been convicted, we should continue to remain vigilant. Mike's killer is out there somewhere. Mike deserves justice.

Thanks for clearing up the Cooper thing-way down the suspect list now.

Oh, man, thanks for clearing it up about "Jeff Cooper" name.

One thing worthy of mention. The Sanderson fellow's FB profile shows him in a relationship with a young lady.

About a week or two after Mike Surber's murder, a man and woman went to a city near Ocean Springs -- cannot remember the name -- and used the same hustle as well as walking out on a bar tab. I read somewhere in the newspaper articles about this incident that it was believe there may -- I repeat "may" -- be a correlation with the man accused in the Mike Surber murder.

I cannot find this newspaper article now, researching on Google, because I have a job due this morning and must work. If and when I find it, though, I will post it on this page to read.

A lot of time hs gone by, 9 years in fact. Memories fade and people look different. I don't look much different than 9 years ago, but some folks do change a lot -- hair style, weight, hair color, et cetera.

OMG! At the time of this writing, the person's photo, who I have deleted from this thread, is posting on To Catch a Killer Facebook page about Mike Surber claiming this suspect who murdered Surber is not him.

Now his brother also wants to join that FB page.

What a nightmare!

He said he does not know how his pohto got on a Most Wanter picture about kidnapping too.

He said he's never had blond hair.

OMG, his brother wants to join this FB page. I am not going to be the one to admit him.

Isn't that 'whom i have deleted'?

I know nothing about prison procedures, but it looks like taking DNA samples from anyone, anywhere, who is sentenced to the joint would contribute to a huge computer database. (like fingerprints). Then comparisons could be made. I guess that's how all that stuff works...I really don't know. I'm also sure if some nondescript citizen like myself has thought of that, the LEO people have done likewise.

There are some states that do that in varying degrees. Surprisingly, the state that is toughest about it is California (the voters passed a proposition) where by law anyone arrested for any felony level crime has their DNA collected and submitted to a national database.
http://www.governing.com/topics/public-justice-safety/tns-california-dna-supreme-court.html

These procedures have led to many crimes being solved that otherwise would have gone unsolved, and the number of cases they are able to solve this way will continue to increase as more and more people enter the system and end up having their DNA collected. I think we should support these types of laws in all states.

Very nice work by Spliced, JAM, and others here on AZ! There are some similarities, but my honest feeling is that this is not Mike's murderer.

For one thing, the guy is too young. JAM posted a pic on AZ of the current pictured guy, which was take 3 years after the murder, and he's obviously too young. Our perp was at least in his late 40s, maybe older, in 2009. So now he would be at least late 50s.

I don't recall a mole on the guy's face, although I may not have noticed it at the time. Jeremiah Cooper was the name the perp used because he'd stolen Cooper's credit card in Atlanta. If this were our perp, he'd be crazy to use an alias anything like "Cooper". I don't know what crime the current guy did to be labeled a kidnapper. But the original guy was a murderer and thief, so I'm not sure how that jibes.

It would be a big help if we knew the pictured guy's height. The murderer was 5'6"-5'8". And yes, they do have DNA on the guy, plus whatever new info they were able to recently get at Quantico.

Still, this is certainly enough to forward on to the local FBI, who have taken over the case. I'll phone the agent to let him know.

Thanks very much, y'all !!

~Doc

The suspect description you give here and the one on the FBI website are a good bit different, possibly enough to make somebody who spots the real killer write him off as a suspect and never report him because he doesn't seem to match the (incorrectly reported) suspect's age or height description. I only mention it so that whichever description is error can get corrected to avoid any confusion and give us the best chance of catching the guy.
