The cost of a Custom Cue

Getting back on subject

If Eddie can make a cue and be comfortable at his price, more power to him. If his materials don't hold the test of time because of improper preparation (lack of shop space), that will be on him, but only time will tell. A guy like Paul Dayton that has invested his time, money, etc.. and has been around longer than Ed, I would expect to have a higher priced cue. However if his cues were out of line, the market would let him know.
If you have low overhead and can keep the cue price at a minimum, that's good. It's called free market. At some point when Eddie advances to points, inlays, and such his cues will reflect that added expense as well. You cannot fault a guy that can take some wood, put in a handle and make a shaft and charge 350.00, God bless him. Maybe some guys with ego's need them checked. The cue market will inevitably show whose prices are spot on, or who's going to have a lot of wood hanging around.
But in the end it's the consumers choice on where to put his money. If a consumer for example had 1200 and he needed a cue he has a lot of choices. Take Eddies low end cue and take the change and get lessons, or take a higher cue because of the name and resale value, and have no change. It's all up to the guy looking to spend the money.
I don't agree with the way Eddie has handled some of the threads he has been in, but you can't tell a guy how to run his business. If he can keep it down, good man.

Joey..... these two builders were on two different ends of the spectrum. Both are no longer building because of two totally different reasons.

In my days of driving, I have paid as little as .12/9 for a gallon of gas.....
Back in the day, privately owned stations would occasionally have what were called gas wars. Two stations across from each other would go out and change the price on their boards every 10-15 minutes out front dropping a penny at a time until one station would say "uncle".

<~~~not going to say what year it was but I was 16 at the time I filled up for .12/9 a gallon.........

You sir are the worst antagonist in any of these threads.(Just a neutral observation)

That's because every action DESERVES a reaction !

Remember I did NOT start the war on a personal level... these clowns are just upset because I used their negative retorts and slander as fuel for positive advertising and generated many cue sales from it !

Now it's just a desperate attempt to save pride, which is why some just won't let it go !!!

NEVER EVER UNDER ESTIMATE YOUR OPPONENT !!!;)

Sincerely, Eddie Wheat

I swear to god (AND I'M AN ATHEIST)...if I was a moderator on this forum...I'd have at LEAST a half a dozen threads just like this one shut down...and there wouldn't be another thread that would erupt anything close to it ever again. This constant "you're an a$$hole" and "my $hit don't stink", name calling, mickey mouse bull$hit is reprehensible. Especially in the one of the only sections of this forum dedicated to PROFESSIONALS.

I can honestly say...some of you are closer to Mike Sigel than you are different than him. And no...that's not flattering at all.

It's no wonder MORE of the cuemaking world's great minds don't frequent this place.

Two years ago at the Derby he was wanting 25.00.

About 15 years ago Gary Spaeth had a backer who traveled a lot on business and he took Gary to Germany. Gary was a world champion Banks player but he was also a great one-hole player which was not well known. They ended up at some tournament over in Germany where there was a group of players from the U.S., one of which was Mike. Gary was completely unknown there and was about to make some major money working his way through the ranks of one-hole players. Mike, seeing Gary matching up, told the players not to play him as he is a world champ and they have no chance of beating him. How would you like to travel 6000 miles just to have your action slammed on the first night.

Mike has always been known to look out for #1.

That's pool world to you Dick. Same goes in cuemaking. The people below, instead of learning from the ones up there and maybe replicate their success, badmouth the ones who are having great success in hoping they get their business. Of course they have to lowball everyone first.
But, as you've been in this business for a long time, you see them come and go.

*LOL*

$20? Will you take cash and trade? I have one of your recent cues and a crisp $5 bill I can offer you. :p

Joking...obviously.

The $5 isn't crisp. *LOL* ;)

I think a lot of these figures, although specifically accurate, are not figured correctly. I come up with cost like this;

overhead+materials+wages+%growth (in other words cost to operate the shop per year)
-----------------------------
hours worked yearly

That gives you shop time. Figure what time you have in each cue multiply that by your "shop time." As you grow your business, shop time needs to be recalculated each year.
