DrDave teaches pool online. Does anyone want to start a regular chat thread on the forum?

Like I watched the SAWS video and think its works most of the times. DrDave talks great but itd be fun to discuss his notes as a group.

DrDave is great but he is just a starting point for learning about billiards and how balls should get hit. I enjoy discussion groups.

If Dave reads this and disapproves I support that too. Some experts are very precise about what people say.

Now this is how you troll, you show hank who's the biggest of em all 🤣

If DrDave gives a lecture, then I am trying to form a study group.

DrDave has put way more time into thinking about his system than I have. I was wondering if anyone wants to be like the study group leader.

I am a study group organizer.

I cant be the leader because I am not the expert on DrDave's "technique"
Does he have a star pupil here?

I'm not opposed to a dedicated thread to discuss topics in any of my instructional products (like SAWS), where I would be happy to answer any questions; but I always create a new thread for any new YouTube video, so those are the best places for video-related discussion.

The dude is an absolute gem for those who are students of the game. We did not have this back in my day. His input to AZ is actually about improving your pool game rather than some bullshit arguments regarding aiming methods or bitching about a cue maker. BTW, I love those threads!

Dave is the man. Our game lacked any video from which to learn until Pat Fleming and Accu-stats came along a little over thirty years ago.

Although Dave is following in the giant footsteps of Pat Fleming, opening up a wealth of video material from which modern players can learn, Dave has brought it all to a completely new and higher level by isolating and documenting key shots.

The best part of Dave's material is that it is about techniques and shots, and not so much about things like mental game, momentum, playing the score or other more qualitative subjects. The qualitative subjects are, of course, important, but Dave focuses on how to identify and execute a multitude of important shots on a pool table. Also important is that Dave thoroughly considers offense, defense, kicking, and jumping, making his collection of videos more comprehensive than any other of which I'm aware to date.

Dave is producing material that is very important to the documentation, analysis, and further development of the theory underlying superior execution of shots on a pool table. His work will teach, inspire, and motivate for many years to come.

What Dr. Dave has brought forth is inspirational when it comes to trying to understand the physics of pool.
He contributes an neutral, objective approach accompanied by astute analysis and insightful observations.

His use of high speed video, closeup examination of the physics and replay is amazingly informative as well.
Without a doubt, Dr. Dave has thoroughly analyzed more different aspects of pool than any other individuals.

And all of this is provided at no expense to the general public, plus Dr. Dave’s demeanor is gracious and laudible.
IMO, he has done more to promote insight and understanding of the fundamentals of pocket billiards than anyone.

But his largest contribution is the detailed analysis of the pool stroke, cue ball behavior, object ball tracks, and other
facets of the game from banking to chalking. He literally offers a cornucopia of information unavailable from others.

Thanks Dr. Dave. He is a rare breed and although people may enjoy his writings, not as many appreciate his wisdom.
Heck, I think he should start his own podcasts and even do narration of high visibility pool tournaments. He’s just great.

I appreciate all the contributions.

Its clear DrDave is a public figure globally through the internet.

I am working on a special project to share my love of billiards with the internet also.

Thank you for your kind post. I appreciate it. Although, to clarify, there are many other footsteps in which I have followed: Robert Byrne, Bob Jewett, Ron Shepard, Mike Page, Wayland Marlow, and Gustave Coriolis, just to name a few. All of these people (and many others) have provided much knowledge and inspiration.

That is very kind of you. Thank you! If you guys aren't careful, you will make my head very large.

New proposal

how about using this thread to try to stump DrDave.

Its a common tradition in other circles that people try to "stump the expert"

one of the great mysteries that can turn into a standard experience for people learning pool the right way through a community

is discussion of why a ball skids or just falls out of place for no reason at all at random moments?

Is there really a ghost on the table? Thats the fun discussion topic.

Does DrDave believe in ghosts or string theory?

Just a starting point? Dr. Dave and Tor Lowery have pretty much dissected pool down to it's smallest components, It just depends on how you, as an individual learn, as to which one you might follow easiest.

I imagine the "dissecting" is great. There are many resources over the centuries about explaining stuff.

Then there are the people that can actually do it and re create the experiment.

Schools have been teaching standard subjects for years but some people like to enjoy discussing it live and in their own words. Not just a copy by value, some people like to talk about things through their own references. Or interpret it for personal meaning.

I am not trying to get spiritual.

I am just saying DrDave speaks English, there are many people that don't speak his English. Thats where the idea for this thread came from.

Disciples of DrDave thread but putting their own take on it. Its a tradition I learned at a community center.
