The Fears of a Pool Player

FOMO new equipment is real.
Buy pool supplies yearly.

Why am I afraid of the shot?
Because I might miss.

Why am I afraid of missing?
Because then I might lose.

Why am I afraid of losing?
Because then I will be a bad pool player.

Why am I afraid of being a bad pool player?
Because then I will be a bad person.
This shows that the player is not thinking properly::

In reverse order::
Why would being a bad pool player make you a bad person ??
Why would loosing make you a bad pool player ??
Why would the ability to miss make you lose ??

If you are a pool player--you ARE GOING TO lose--no two ways about it--even Efren lost sometimes--but he did it with grace and so should you.

Nothing about what you do on the pool table can make you a bad person, but how you react to things happening on a pool table CAN !!

And this is why I am never afraid of a shot--I make it I win--I miss I lose--neither changes my innate goodness.

Jack Nicklaus, on the subject of golf, offered that fear, pressure and doubt are all part of the game. Jack noted that "if you don't feel them, you're already dead." Jack offered that "a champion is the one who manages them best." Interestingly enough, Jack was a strong believer in "selective memory," meaning remembering the good and blocking out the bad to the greatest extent possible, as an approach to managing them.

I think it's, more or less, the same in pool. The most fearless player I've ever seen over the glorious green felt is Jose Parica.

I used to say, "Pool is like life." Now I don't remember why I said that.

If you think you are going to miss you will miss …
