The $$$ for the Pro's is weak this year so far...

the thing that gets me about pool is that for the last twenty years the prize money for the top tournaments in the USA hasn't really risen. Or maybe it has, I dunno. It just seems like there are about as many 10-25k added events nowadays as there were in the 1980s and 1990s. Meanwhile gas has gone fromn $0.89 to $4.01 in that time period.

pro players and people in general. I wasn't thinking of anyone specific. I was only stating my opinion on the money situation in pool and how I believe the players or anyone that isn't making ends meet should handle things.

Thank you for the clarification that your post is merely your own opinion, one which cannot be substantiated with fact.

Good post...what job could you do where you travel the country or world in some cases. When I see gripes about the state of pool they're not looking at the big picture...

You could come work for me...no pool necessary. Travel required.

yes, it is of my own opinion that there are some players and people in general that complain a lot about the low payouts and hardships of being professional pool players. It is also of my own opinion that a lot of the players are simply too lazy to find other work. It is also of my own opinion that if the players want to scuffle and just get by then that is their choice and I have nothing wrong with them doing that. It is their choice.

This is why I admire Stevie M. so much. He went out and got sponsors on his own to help with traveling and expenses and entries, etc. . He even held down a part time job for about 3 years also. Now he has made an impact and treats it like a "job". If more players took this initiative, they would see an increase in the popularity of pool IMO. But, when the majority of the players will not work to help the sport, then why should the fans?

All though he tells it like it is about the money in pro pool I give Mr. 400 a lot of credit for going out and getting sponsers, comimg on here with fair deals how we can stake him for big tournaments, and all the other things he has tried and is doing for himself to stay in pool and eat too. I agree. I know John and I've known Stevie for a long time and they have taken the steps necessary for them to continue playing the sport and provide for themselves.

Bottom line, you have to be creative to make a living at pool. I don't care how good you play. Many of the most successful players have found ways to augment their incomes. Owning or working in a room, making or selling cues, doing exhibitions and clinics, giving lessons, being a house pro, making videos or writing books. These are only a few of the ways I've seen pro players manage to make a living and continue playing pool.

It is my opinion that pool cannot get higher payouts in the United States because of opinions exactly like the above-referenced. It is those who condemn pool players as the reason the state of pool that are actually the ones doing the most damage to American pool. Yep, that's an opinion, and it's my choice to express it on this thread.

The state of the economy is brutal out there, not only for pool players for for the entire job market.

lol, whoever said that I condemn pool players? I have a ton of pool playing friends and if that is what they want to do then they have every right to do that. And how exactly is my opinion of someone not doing anything to better themselves or do things to supplement their pool playing income keeping the payouts low? I commend the players that go out and get sponsors or run tours or work part time in pool rooms to help them get from tournament to tournament.

I think our differing of opinions is based on the fact that I want pool players to get higher payouts but when it doesn't just fall into their laps I think they should work for it. Why exactly should the players just get to play for millions without doing anything?

Edit: just got another red rep from Jam and I have no idea why. This is now the 8th red rep she has given me and I actually thought we could have a civil discussion with differing opinions.

Thanks for all of those that have given me positive rep to offset the childish and flagrant missuse of the negative rep. just because someone has a different opinion.

FWIW, at least I keep my opinions and my posts on this forum. I don't have to be a wimp and spread my venom to another forum, like you did, to express your disdain for me.

That said, you have PM'd me several times, to which I have declined to respond. You claim I am stalking you. I have posted MANY times today, posts that had nothing to do with you.

I just happen to have a completely different opinion than you about pool players and the state of pool today in these United States. You are entitled to your opinion, and so am I. At least I say it right to you face on this forum and don't have to go elsewhere to slam you.

so since we have a difference of opinion you give me negative rep every time the system lets you? I have pm'd you ONCE and that was today to express the fact that I thought we could have a civil discussion with differing opinions but you constantly follow me from thread to thread.

Also, what I do on other forums has nothing to do with this one. I posted that I did not agree with how you conducted yourself and almost everyone agreed. I did not post that here because I was adhering to Mr. Wilson's wishes that we avoid each other. It is really sad that we can't just have differing opinions without acting like children.

JAM, why did you give vette negative rep for his posts in this thread? He seemed quite civil in his responses to you.

You offered me $1,000 if I would leave this forum for good, and I accepted. Thereafter I accepted your offer of $1,000, you then immediatley crawfished on the agreement.

I think we know what our opinions are about the topic of this thread, and I'll just leave it at that. We can respectfully agree to disagree.

One thing for sure, I ain't no crawfish, and I don't have to go elsewhere like the Town Crier to attack posters on this forum.

I made that offer just to see how much you really wanted to be here. I would not accept anyone's offer for me to leave here because I enjoy it, especially someone that I didn't like. In all seriousness, would you take $100 to leave? I will ship it asap through paypal.

Either way, I have always respectfully agreed to disagree, but you are never open to looking at someone elses opinions. You have trouble with about 20 or so different posters on here because they have different opinions than you. I have had differing opinions than an awful lot of people on here but you are the only one that takes everything as an attack on you and can't discuss things in a civil manner.

The original agreement that you crawfished on was $1,000 -- ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS even. You were supposed to send it to me via PokerStars to my account, and you renegged on the agreement, once I accepted.

You are entitled to your opinion about me. I won't lower myself to respond to your view.

I have received enough support, information, and advice via PMs, good rep, e-mails, and even phone calls about a variety of topics, to include you, and you know, whatever you say, it doesn't really matter to me.

Enjoy the forum as "corvette1340." LOL!

lol, likewise x 10.

After much meditation and due consideration, I have come to the exclusive conclusion that your insinuations are too unharmonious for my susceptibilities, therefore further insinuations proposed unto said situation are superfluous.
