There's silence in the room as 17 year old Brook Cleary studies the balls. It's hill-hill and she needs only to make the 7, 8 & 9 to win the U.S. Open. But she has a very tough cut shot on the 7 with no clear path to the 8. Her opponent Michelle Rakin, the veteran who has been ranked #1 for the last two years, is sitting on the edge of her seat, expecting to come back to the table in a moment.
Cleary take a long look, and asks referee Steve Tipton Jr. for an extension. There is $50,000 riding on this one shot. She is going for the bank! Wow, it's an off angle long rail bank and if she misses, it's all over. BAM! Brook drills it, and the cue ball swoops forward for perfect shape on the eight. Bap, bap, 8 and 9, it's all over. Brook Cleary has won the 2025 U.S. Open!
She runs to edge of the arena where her dad Andrew is waiting. A big hug from poppa and tears fill her eyes. Her first U.S. Open and she has done it!
