Steve Davis - I think this is a better example of his play than his centuries or 147. He was just such a complete player, tough to get any chances from.

Stephen Hendry - If Steve Davis could be described as a rapier sword, Hendry would be a bazooka. FWIW Jimmy White judged prime Davis to be on par with prime Hendry, just different styles of play.

Maybe its just because they are a million times better than me, but I think you also need to add a few ladies to that list.I'll start with Robin since she just entered the HOF. there are definetly some others Greda, jeanette, Allison ect.ect.

Sadly I can't find any good video's of John Spencer. There used to be a match between him and Alex Higgins in the 70's, but it was removed earlier in the year. But that reminds me I omitted Alex.

I was able to find Hopkins running 13 balls, which will have to do.

As for some others, they are a little too new or unproven imo.

It would be cool to make a list of future greats. At which point Alex Pagualyan, Mika Immonen and Shane Van Boening could be added.

Great Post!

Thanks for assembling those videos, great stuff. It is interesting to see that the older players all have much shorter bridges and hold the cue much closer to the balance point than the modern guys.

It's a tie, Keith and Dave are good friends.....Keith has the edge on the BB with a regular ball, and Dave has the edge with the Big Rock. But Dave has had a much longer career at the top of the heap than Keith or Buddy.

Nicknames don't get much stronger either...

Thanks for the reps and comments, I had fun putting it together. It wasn't that hard to find stuff, I'm such a pool history nerd that I've found all of it before so it was only a matter of remembering the search words.

A fun little excercise is to watch all of the players and see what they have in common. Outside of the fact that most of them are pretty smooth, they all seem to hold themselves a little differently than other players. They have a confident walk and demeanor around the table, as though they've already won and playing is merely a formality.

On a side note, anyone notice in the Willie Hoppe clip during the instructional portion they say "stroke with your shoulder not with your elbow", my how much we've learned.

Great job!

If John Spencer is in the running, then surely Ray Reardon must be. A little unauthodox in his cueing (due he says to breaking his arm as a child) but when he was in his prime, always gave the impression of really OWNING the table.

Quite right. He had amazing cue ball control. You had to try like blazes to keep yourself from thinking you couldn't do it all yourself.
