Just thought i'd share a review of a pool room that i visited this weekend.
I was up in Scotland for the theatre show, "Rocky Horror Picture Show".
Killing some time during the day I found my way into the GREEN ROOM. I'd heard of this place prior to going and was very excited to see if it could live up to the hype.
Walking in off the street and through the giant glass doors I was welcomed by floor to ceiling decadence with solid dark wood panelling and candle lit antiques. Wall encompassing mirrors gave a greater sense of space than there maybe was. All in all i was especting to see strip poles not pool tables, this was like a Holywood cliche of a up-market gentlemens club.
Past the foyer was the room itself. Bar to the imidiate right, 5x 9ft German branded tables in front and 2 dart boards beyond that. At first it appears very dark but the eyes soon adjust to the sultry lighting hanging from the the 35ft+ ceiling (this this was cavernous!) and the speratic placement of tealight candles.
The room is as spectacular as the enterance. Pick a surface, apply the most expensive material you can think of then coat it all in a layer of cool.
I don't normally play on the American style tables but thought it would be rude not too (when in Rome). The tables seemed up to scratch to me. They were a little worn but rolled true and all dykes had predictable responses. Despite being in a city centre i still thought the tables were expensive at £10 per hour. On prices still, a pint of Amstel larger is £3.25 which is on par with trendy city centre bars so i didn't grumble with that to much.
Overall, i'd give the GREEN ROOM a 9.5/10. You felt cool just for being in there. I was especially impressed when the barman carried the balls and cues over to my table for me. I flet like i was being "shown my table" in a fancy restaurant.
Check out the website and have a visit if you're in the area.
