The horrible APA

Remember on az billiards you can never say anything bad about a league or cue maker or your either a winer or full of shit. I don't care if either one shits on your head and asks if you like your new hat you have to smile and say how great it is or you'll be ran off the board! God forbid anyone have an opinion

You should try the NPR....

Plenty of opinions. Not as savage as the aiming threads.

Gee, somehow you visit a different AZB than I do....the version that I frequent, anything related to the APA is always how awful it is. How its terrible pool, how all the LO's are corrupt or incompetent, the players are all drunks and everyone sandbags.....

Yet somehow it continues to be the most successful thing in pool here in the US. Every year, more people play APA than anything else. If it were possibly so horrible, how could that continue, year after year, with all the doom and gloom here on AZB?

Exactly my point........................

Well said

Kim

I liked the idea of the APA as a social event more than anything else. My problem, which fortunately none of you have brought up so hopefully none of you have run into, is the fact that you can end up with a crappy team captain.

I had the experience of 3 weeks into my paying dues and 2 of my team mates paying dues (that I witnessed), that somehow our ENTIRE team was completely derelict in paying dues and had a nice red notice on top of our score sheet from the LO. So for 3 weeks, at least 3 people paid dues, and our captain used that money for drinks or god knows what. Between that crap and the constant arguments from the other teams of "your 2nd player didn't shoot like a 4" and other grumblings .. I got tired of it quick.

I saw this in another team.......... they were tossed out of the playoffs for lack of payment but I talked to 2 of the team members that said they paid every week............

the captain was a thief

The APA is SOO bad.

They give me a fun place to play pool with great people every week.

They bring in thousands and thousands of players that would never play pool if it weren't for the APA

They give me a cheap form of entertainment doing something I love to do

They have a junior program that teaches my kids the fundamentals of pool and how FUN it can be...wtf is that?

They paid me money when we won our league

They gave us a trip to vegas when we won our City tournaments

They gave us money to get to vegas

They gave us money to spend in vegas

They gave us a couple rooms to use while in vegas

They gave us a ton of mini tournaments to play in while we were there

Our league rep gave us coupons for free foods while we were there, saving us even more money

Damn you APA and all you do for the pool community cause let's be honest...if it weren't for the APA, pool would be NOWHERE near where it is now...

you have a great LO

Ki,

Our league just changed hands. The new operator added Masters Division ($10) and the Break and Run pot. He's extended the session and upped the minimum play requirement from 4 to 6 while keeping the league fees ($7) the same. He added Top Gun and changed the structure of play so that winning first place in league play means something. He's committed to sending twice as many teams to Vegas as his predecessor did.

Revolt is in the air and there is talk of bringing a BCA league to the area....

Not once did I ever regret leaving the apa. Players will moan and groan no matter what league or tournament you play in. Its a fact there's always at least one cry baby through the night. I've actually seen the sandbagging, and other scandals. Therefore, my money goes elsewhere.

Why this is still the successful league that it is, I have no clue. I just hope it's not the socializing-meet/greet, that gets people to stay and join. That would just mean there is an absurd amount of no life having sob's in pool LOL!

It might have something to do with the heavy advertising that they do on tv, not just for pool events but football, basketball etc. They have money to play with.

Yeah, there's no possible way that in a league system with over 200,000 players, none of us are enjoying ourselves....

I don't get it actually. I play in the apa straight pool rotation league ( I refuse to call it 9 ball because it isn't lol) I do so for my wife because she likes to play but can't play on my bca teams because there to loaded. Is fun. There's a good side and bad side to the league but every week I hear everyone *****ing about how terrible the apa is. I'm talking 8 out of 10 players ...but week after week there they are lol and we have plenty of options here in york to choose from! They don't have to play apa. Any night of the week there are multiple leagues running in this town. I don't understand if apa players hate it so much why they continue to play... Maybe it's the handycapped thing and they feel they have a chance. Getting a handycapp is certainly easier then practicing and getting better I guess lol

The APA is a GREAT league... its the only league where you can make thousands and thousands of dollars... AND SUCK !!!!!
thats why its the biggest, fastest growing league in the nation.

I dont get why nobody can see that...
Do you guys remember when you were a C or D player??? You would enter those weekly tourneys and get your ass smashed... depressing right??

The Apa has a place for you, you can qualify and enter the national singles and play everybody else your speed for $10,000 or $15,000 in cash and prizes... where else can you do this???
Teams want you !!! Cuz your not that good.. with the Cap of 23, Low level players are in NEED !!!

This equals maybe 98% of the people playing pool, so of course its going to be the fastest growing league in the nation...

I remember when the BCA had valleys, everybody *****ed and nagged....of course this came from all the Nits that couldnt play a lick anyways... THEN CAME IN THE DIAMONDS !!!!!!
LOL :D :D " Ohh there way TOO TIGHT"... " This helps the better players, I woulda had a chance against him on a valley !!!"

Its the same thing over and over... IF you cant beat your man on a VALLEY, what makes you think your gonna beat him on a DIAMOND???

I love the APA and I love the BCA
the APA I can take my girl, have a beer, make love to her all night and still play some pool while smoking a joint
the BCA, I get dead serious playing with the best of them...
They all have their pros and cons... but NONE needs any bashing at all

Just try it for yourself and stop being a NIT!!

You guys have girls?!?!? You can imagine what I'd give for fat girls, skinny girls... just someone that smelled different then those stale beer and cigarette smoke dirty wife beater shirt wearin' guys that frequent our leagues here

Around here one of the taverns that we play is a stripper bar. Gets interesting at times with the ladies walking around and all. This is also the same place where we have all of our league tournaments.

Damn, damn, double damn.....why don't I play in that area?

:p :D

Care to elaborate on this?

It's not complicated lol it allows you to to play even with a better without putting the work in. I had to put in a lot of practice so I could play straight up with better players...that was my motivation to get better. Handycapps just make it an even match without that work.

I hate the APA

I hate Vegas

The tables are bad

Valley tables suck

There are too many sandbaggers

The same team always wins

The same team always goes to Vegas

They allow smoking

They don't allow smoking

There are beer drinkers

They don't serve beer

We play too late

There are too many fat girls

There are too many skinny girls

The girl with the big tits never racks at my table

They are all bar bangers

I like the BCA better

I like TAP better

The 23 rule is bad... we can't load our team

What is this ball in hand crap

APA 9 ball sucks

I lost to a lower skill level because if the handicap system

The handicap system system sucks

I run up the innings in my matches so my skill level doesn't go up

They raised our 2 to a 3 in the city cup tournament

that old lady beat me .... she is not really a 3

waaaaaaa waaaaaaa waaaaaa

sob sob sob

whine whine whine

How about you pour yourself a big glass of STFU !!!!

How about you just quit and never come back because you hate it so much...

Your are not skilled enough to play in a handicapped league.... you don't have any friends anyway............ because they are tired of hearing you bitccch all the time.

cry baby!!!!!!

Kim

You missed one.

The guy with huge tits always racks my table.

i enjoy the apa very much, now that i stop playing. i still go on lg nites to play on the practice tables with my friends. no stress about my 80 year old female player being a 5 and cant make 2 in a row or the 5 thats a friend of mine that beats 6's and 7's multiple times and is still a 5. ( no , he's not on my team)
oh shit im getting stressed again..lol
i think i will still pay my dues just so i can go play on the side and leave when i want.

and i can set my handicap where i want.

It's funny how lots of folks talk about how much they hate they Apa, but when it comes time to start another league system, they don't step up and support it.

A friend of mine is trying to get USAPL started here locally, and I'm afraid the same thing is happening. I hope that it works and becomes successful, but I suspect it won't even get off the ground.

Lol. Isnt that the point of a handicap league? So you can play and not be skilled?

With a statement like that it is obvious your main form of competition is league pool, and that's ok if it is your cup of tea... but there is no way in hell that league pool requires more skill then playing in open tournaments with no handicaps.

Hmmmm I play both and I would say they're both just as tough. If the handycapps are correct every match can be a pretty even match where as in a tournament I can get a lucky draw and have to play even with someone I can get an easy win to the next round I guess.
