I was watching some video's on the jump shot, I googled "jump shots in pool".
I was thinking if I had a how to video "how to Jump" would it help a new player understand.

Do you know how to jump? I'm looking for feedback. I should have made a video years ago to go along with the Frog and Tadpole.

I think that a video on jumping for beginners is a horrible idea. The potential for abused equipment is just way too high.

Jumping is also something that really impedes progress in a person's game. People just don't have to learn how to kick if they learn how to jump early.

There are so much to learn before jumping is even thought about.


However,

Having a casual training video on jumping might help to sell your product. I know there is a video with the Predator Air like that.

I jump like a kangaroo! Many times there are no kicking routes, I'm on 2 fouls and 3 inches up behind a obstructing ball. Nothing like the look on their faces when the jump cue comes out and I hit the ball. Sorry guys I didn't invent them, just learn how to use them. I've won countless games by not fouling out, continuing a run or playing a jump combo.
 
do a google video search for 'jump shoot pool'.....theres plenty of vids to start you off.
start with some easy jumps....half ob ball and then move onto jumping a full ball

I could do that, teaching the players at the BCA and the APA tournaments in Vegas, (even though APA doesn't allow jumping) I've seen about as many mistakes on the shot as anyone.

I was thinking not only the jump itself, but how to aim...and how to give yourself the best possible chance to even make the ball.
I can teach a 3 in APA...I can't teach a 2...I tell them to come back in a year. :)
 
I think also that the advent of the phenolic tip has let players who have no idea how to jump gain that ability without any real work. I admit that with my SledgeHammer I thought jumping was easy. It wasn't until I got my new J/B with a Samsara tip that I discovered jumping takes a lot of practice.

You can jump in APA, however you must use a full-length cue to do so.

I like the video idea.

I hear what the purists are saying (teach ppl to kick first/might damage equipment/etc) but I feel that jump shots are a part of the game that isn't going away. For that matter, I think it might be more beneficial to have ppl taught the proper way, rather than to see some buddy or pro do it, then try to mimic it with hap hazard results.

Since I've been thinking about selling the Frog and Tadpole business I thought a video to go along with the sell (at purchasers expense) of each cue would help not only the beginners but even the stronger players.
Teaching so many players over the years the jump shot I think I could teach a couple things about it to most players. In my humble opinion
 
A decently made video that is easily and readily available for viewing online would be the way to go imo. I don't think there would be enough information on it (if the subject matter was jumping only) for a "for sale" video, if that was what you were thinking about doing.

I learned how to jump from a Billiards Digest article that Tony Robles did on the subject. Who'd a thunk it???

My opinion; do the video.

If you are gonna sell the Frog/Tadpole line, I feel that a video would add value to the business that you are selling. The video can be packaged with each sale of the jump cues and being that you are a hall of famer, might add to the value of the package.

Robin, you helped me with my jump stroke, years ago (Vegas or Valley Forge, can't remember). I was dropping my elbow slightly and though I could jump proficiently, that small tip from you made me aware of what I was doing and subsequently, made my jump stroke that much better.

I thank you for you kindness and good luck with the sale.

I learned to jump from YOU at the BCA Nationals (2003, I think). My friend and I each purchased a raffle ticket for the 'Frog', and he ended up winning the draw.

But you took the time to show BOTH of us how to use it. That went a long way with me, and I appreciate that lesson.

As far as the video, I think including it with the sale of a jump cue is a fantastic idea.
The only caveat I might have is an additional charge for that video. The consumer can find plenty of videos on youtube and the like, without having to pay for it.

In my humble opinion, with the way the economy is today, I think 'FREE DVD included' could in effect boost your sales. If you were to charge for the additional video, however, I'm inclined to believe that those videos would not 'move' as you would hope, and could possibly point the consumer towards a different product.

I plan on attending the BCA Nationals in 2011. I'm hoping to see you there (again) :D. Maybe I'll win the raffle...

I've watched a lot of videos on jumping and I still can't manage to do it. So now I just go with the statement, "I don't believe in jumping" hahaha.

I, personally, think jumping should be delayed until one is an APA-5. This gets their position skills, their kicking skills, in line before introducing the jump to their game.

I could teach you in less that 2 minutes...if you have yourself on video I will let you know what the problem is, my pleasure
