The King of One Pocket Tournament - $50,000 - February 24th-26th

Sorry if I missed this in another post.

Is there a set time these matches will start? How many matches per day?

I get home around 6pm EST, so hopefully I can still catch some of it when this happens.

match times

The matches are scheduled for 100pm and 700pm pacific coast time, we need 6 hrs. between rounds. We will be using 4 new diamond blue label pro ams tables with super pro aramith balls and measle Q ball.

Really looking forward to Box commentating these matches!

Box has a way of showing you how to "look" at things you would not necessarily see for yourself. First and foremost he is a passionate "Teacher" of the game interested in bringing its purity and complexity into a dialog which captures the imagination of both the expert and the novice player - just what one pocket needs to grow.

Cant wait this is going to be a great
event if you like 1 pocket this is as good
as it gets high stakes great players.
I hope you guys can pull it off good luck

The ridiculously high "Entry Fees" in pool tournaments are downright hilarious. This is just gambling among each other, pure and simple....hoping a few hapless fish show up to donate just so they can pretend they are a "pro" in some endeavor.

What kind of random "hapless fish" is gonna show up in an 8 man event?
Call it whatever you want, I hope the event happens.
DON'T WATCH!!!! SOLVED YOUR PROBLEM.
YOU'RE WELCOME
JASON

Do Compton and Gray ever go out west? If so you can't count Joey out. At the last 6k entry he had a very impressive win over the Freezer where Scott only needed one ball in three different games. He went double hill with Roberts and Bustimante, a win in either of those matches would have got him at least third. One or two different rolls in those races to seven in both those sets and he would've cashed big.

Who wants to guess the field?

without a lot of thought

Scott
Efren
SVB
DAZ
Corey
Dennis O
Richie R
Danny S

I'm betting no Richie R. I'll take up to 500. And I'll bet 100 no Danny S.

Action is for the next 24 hours only.

As i said -without a lot of thought. I just was hoping other people would put up their guesses. Get a debate going.

He's Lost

I dont think a few hapless fish are going to show up and donate $6000 to pretend they are pro's. It will be only Elite one pocket players entering this event !!! I also believe any one of the 8 players has a chance to win. Scott Frost and John Schmidt have thrown there hat in the ring, I suspect after the holidays we will see more interest !!!

Its kind of hard to predict at this time. I imagine Derby will have a lot to do with attendance. Who makes some scores and who busts out. Freezer, Mr. 400,SVB, Efren, Busti, Dennis O, Alex, Joey, Chip, Corey, Bergman, JHall, Roberts, Smith are the usual suspects. Daz could probably think of a few better spots to invest his/backer money into but cant ever count out his heart or ability to step up. Daulton would be a great addition. I'm sure I'm missing a few but that about sums it?

John Schmidt vs. Beau Runnigen

One pocket match Tuesday night at Gary's 600pm Schmidt vs. Runnigen, also needed to bump the tournament Info.

Just open it up,no cap on players, and have a calcutta. easy 100k or more. Rich aka the skunk. I might come out of retirement for this.

I just saw this thread. Lenny, fantastic idea! No one but those who really feel they have a legit chance of winning will cloud the field with this entry fee. That's also very good.

But .. IMO, I have to agree, to really find the King of 1pkt, the double race to 7 is IDEAL, but the field should be opened. Potential better players might get shut out otherwise. Doubt you'd get many more playing, but it should be available. I realize it would take some time, but this would really allow all the gunfighters to enter.

Maybe even some sponsor money would come along albeit perhaps not a ton of money, it would be good as well.

One thought you probably already considered, Ustream sucks, I'd rather pay 20 or 30 for the event if it were streamed through the same place Pat and Ray use ... I can't even remember what it is, but its far more reliable IMO. but thats just me, such a great event as this if it happens, deserves to be watched without freeze ups if possible.

Unless you play One Pocket, which I don't, you need a very good commentator to explain the strategy and nuances of the game. Box does this better than anyone. If you want to open the game of One Pocket up to many more people he is a major asset and masterful commentator.

I am looking forward to watching the matches and learning from Box!

Thank you,

John Halter

I just got off the phone with Box, who is thankful for all the nice comments on this thread. I will be meeting Box at Gary's to commentate at least one match with him and I'm sure that Billy or anyone else won't mind sweating a match with him too. We may after all get to hear a heated debate about Box's 'tiers' that everyone seems to be so frustrated about...LOL. I really think Frank Almanza is an excellent talent as a commentator as well. He really knows the game and is cheerful to listen to.

I have agreed to do what I can to assist Lenny with his production and promotion. I may even do some camera work to provide a few closeups if permitted. Lenny is an asset to the pool community and will bring a great show! Gary's Victor Billiards will be the perfect setting.

Oddly, there seems to be more talk about the commentators than the field. Do we have a status on that yet?
