Mr. Scott Lee came calling today. spent a few hours together, was quite the enjoyable experience. learned quite a bit, got quite alot to work on too. going to diligently apply myself to these principles and see where they take me.

I'm stunned . . .

The one time DCP isn't loquacious . . . !

If he spent the day with Scott, there is probably so much information floating around in his brain, he probably did well to write that much!!!

Mike...I have to give you props. You were a good student today! Now all it will take is some time and effort on your part to incorporate the new process!
Best of luck! :D

thank you sir, enjoyed the session myself! that ferocious little dog should provide you folks ample protection while your out on the road..........

since you left, i've probably been at the table for three hours. but.........not more than 10-15 minutes at a time focusing on the drills. i believe they are starting to come around already as far as relaxing and being more fluid goes.

anyway, had to break for supper, then had to come up and watch Barry Bonds 755th homerun. and i am wore out now, so its time to hit the shower, grab a bite to eat, finish the cigar, watch Bonds next atbat, then watch a Charlie's Angels episode, and then retire for the evening.

again, thanks Scott. we'll be seeing each other again one of these days i am sure.

rep for being a good student, and for getting lessons. Now that you know how to stroke, how did the date go?

she cancelled, says she's not ready to have a guy in her life yet. i asked her why she keeps calling me, and she says because she likes me. i tell her i am not interested in being a buddy, especially from 1130 at night to 4:30 in the morning.

women, geez............

DCP, You gotta take charge here! Don't answer the phone when she calls you in the wee hours of the morning.

Wait a couple of days and call her on Monday. Tell her you'd like to get together with her on Saturday or Sunday for lunch or dinner. Unlike the other posters who want you to rush into things, in the long run you're better off taking it slowly.

anyway, enough of the woman, back to more important things..........

i have noticed already that when i shoot the cue ball downtable (the old drlll of shooting it downtable and having it return to the tip) that i am a whole lot more accurate now. its almost amazing how much better i am at this now. the speed isnt quite there yet, but the accuracy/towardness has already improved.

I am happy that you are seeing immediate benefits from you time with a qualified instructor...not surprised given Scott's reputation...but happy for you none the less.

Let's hope this new found knowledge will take you to a new level of play and you can fully enjoy playing.

Proof positive. If SPF can help DCP, there's hope for EVERYBODY!
Just kidding, DCP. Congratulations on taking the first step in continuous improvement. Do the Mother Drills, give them time to become a natural part of your game, and you will be rewarded with a much more consistant game.

yep, that consistency is the #1 problem for me. too many peaks and valleys - mostly valleys.

but.........i think the reason for alot of the valleys is that when i rack the 9 balls and break, as i told Scott yesterday, i hardly ever have any decent spreads. i told him i could break for 5 hours, and at times be lucky if i get 3 decent chances of running out. thats exaggerating of course, but you get the idea.

and when the break doesnt work, i get depressed and frustrated. then when i finally do get a chance if i botch the runout i am in the depths of despair. Scott can now verify the holes in my walls and insulation where balls were thrown in case anyone ever doubted that. but like i told him, i dont do that anymore.

so, i am not going to break any racks of 9-Ball for awhile now, and try and absorb all that Scott gave me. and also work on some other things that i have been doing lately that i think have helped my position play.

just visitin'

Just remember...nobody lives on the peaks.
You just visit the peaks for a while, enjoy the stay and then find yourself gradually descending down into the next inevitable valley.
With any luck it is not as deep a descent as the last valley visited and then on to climb to the next and, again hopefully, higher peak.
We are talking about women right?http://forums.azbilliards.com//images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Is there a listing somewhere of just what drills the mother drills are?

I'm reading 'The Black Widow's Guide To Killer Pool'. DCP, it would do you good to read it. In the chapter on winning and losing attitudes, she has a few lines that seem to fit you.

The book is copyrighted, so I can't quote it. But in essence, she is saying that you need to have goals. The beginners get tied up with the goals and the results. But don't worry about the results. They will come when you stop berating yourself for failure to meet them. Don't necessarily jump on every shortcut, but enjoy the journey.

Short quotes, typically under 450 words, from what I've been told, are alright to reproduce. Of course, the best thing would be to take a look at the book, which if memory serves, is available at Borders, where you can sit down and go through it to see if you want to plop down the cash and make it yours.

Good, short quotes from books like hers, will probably stimulate more book sales...

i played her one time, just banging the balls around in 93(at the one pocket tournment in reno in 93,gradys gig , we played late at night while there was action) for about 3-4 hours she had a friend there who played with us some, we played cut throat, heck we played everything, Ms. Lee didnt play great then I could beat her easily but she told me she was going to be a pro, her mind was made up, 100% determined Bobby Hunter was helping her with her game, I knew then she was going places, i was flat broke didnt have a $5 bill in my pocket it was 2AM we had been playing for an hour and she asked if I wanted to play she ofered me the 8 i said no I was having fun banging the balls-I would have loved to play her I could have gave her the 8, she then offered me the 7, I had no shot of getting any $$$, i dont fire air barrels but it was the lock of locks, she had no idea how I played but she was fearless-that impressed me, I then told her the truth that I couldnt get any $$$ the only guy I knew I could borrow $$$ from was in action with Tooth of all people at the time, the guy I went to Reno with wouldnt loan me any $$$. She said my credit was good because I knew Bobby, but I declined so we just kept playing until 5am and had a great time. I dont like to play on credit and man i was busted back then at my lowest point in life.

She had the mind set and a goal from day one to get to where she is, I knew with her looks and determination success was going to happen, I was glad to see her do well. I was a gentalman because I have a rule I NEVER flirt etc with a friends girl ever. we all just had fun and its a nice memorie. I'm sure she dosent remember me, but I saw it comming-her success. She was down to earth and sweet as any girl ever i hope she is still that way.

DCP,

How about giving us a detailed synopsis of what Scott covered and what you think you got out of the lesson? :)
