The Lowest of the LD Shafts

Suddenly, I find that I have about 12 (or more) low squirt shafts. Well, it's a bit on purpose, but don't tell anyone.

So after testing all of them in a secret laboratory high in the Himalayan Range, I will tell everyone which of these have the lowest squirt.

Now, I'm not saying its "the best shaft" because I think everyone will shoot different with different shafts. But, with my tests, it has the lowest effective squirt.

I doubt it's as low squirt as Pat Johnson's custom low squirt shaft, but for off-the-shelf aftermarket screw-ons, it's the lowest I've tested. Probably too low for my normal shooting taste, but my tastes don't count. Unless we're talking about piccata sauce.

I tried one of those the other day. I thought it felt nice as I shot with it.

I am looking at getting one, but waiting until after the regional tourney here.

How did you feel about it other than the LD aspect?

How much less squirt than a "Z" would you say? What technique did you use to measure the squirt?

Jacoby Hybrid Edge
Mezz WD-700

Predator 314-2
OB Classic

Predator 314

I need to see where the Tiger Ultra fit, so I'll have to recheck my notes, but I think it was in the same ballpark as the Predator 314-2 but not quite as good as the Mezz WD

The worst of my "low squirt" cues is a Schuler SQ (as far as how long the pivot length is for effective squirt) which when I purchased started life fairly thick. I had it lathed down, but it didn't improve much, but it does have lower squirt than my regular Schuler shafts.

I also have low squirt shafts from custom makers who drilled holes and whatnot.

I also have an OB-1 and OB-2 which I'm not including in the test because.. I can't remember.

And I have a couple other Predator 314 and 314-2. I never got a Z shaft because it never felt good in my hands. In fact, I never bothered getting a low squirt shaft that didn't feel at least somewhat good in my hands.

By far, the ones I shoot the best with are the 314 and the OB Classic.

It hit really well. No buzzes throughout the entire range of english shots.

I use the Aim & Pivot Method as outlined by Bob Jewett.

The couple times I tried the Predator Z, I don't remember anything remarkable about it, but then again I didn't like the taper so any lower squirt characteristics didn't interest me.

I should try one I suppose.
 
I play with an OB-2 & it's my favorite (LD). Appreciably lower than 314 which has less than OB-1 IMO. You really need to add them in since you said "after testing all of them in a secret laboratory high in the Himalayan Range, I will tell everyone which of these have the lowest squirt".

I appreciate your effort, but stating the Jacoby is lowest of your LD shafts may not be true. Sorry about being so pragmatic, but it's only fair to include data from all of your options. I see that you noted that you may come back & add in all of the remaining shafts later.

*snort*. Sorry if I misled . I meant to say i didn't include them on my list.

I've had both for years and of course tested them I don't remember where to put them sequentially. They're not close to the top two on my list for low squirt. They feel good though and I always recommend them.

Ok, finally broke down and bought me one of those fancy LD shooting rods y'all been talkin so much about....never thought I'd do it, but it was time to join the 21st century.....

Bought an OB2 Sneaky Pete 2 weeks ago..... fan freaking tastic is all I'm gonna say about it :)

If your bionic arm functioned well at that height, I think you'll find the Tiger Ultra X has more squirt that 314-2 & OB Classic. I switched from 314-2 to the Tiger. A little more quirt is not a bad thing.

Jimmy Wetch is Jacoby's New Star

Jimmy has been using the Jacoby breakCue. As his Custom Ordered Jacoby will be finished soon. In January 2010 All cues over 500. came with the jacoby edge Shaft. Call jacoby and ask when they will be running this Special again. I as well as 4 others have used the HYBRID shaft. The American Construction is the best part, a real ferrule is on it too. I install tips on Jimmys cue- usually 1 tip every nine days. He is shooting today with a Kamui. these shafts are available at (199.)Docscues.com or Troy aka Koinnkid. mark
 
Can anyone please tell me about this Jacoby Hybrid shaft. Is the hit soft or firm, is it whippy, etc.?
 
I noticed on the Jocoby site it mentions that the Hybrid Edge shaft is available in various millimeters. Now wouldn't that alone change the deflection properties from shaft to shaft? I assume that the shaft is a standard taper but wouldn't the deflection change if I ordered one at 12.35mm as opposed to 12.85-13mm diameter?

Anyway.... many pros use the Predator and since they came out there have been several copies/pretenders. They really do work and I love the Z2... I'm sold! "

I concur with his post in another thread.

Oscar Dominguez (Mosconi Cup 2 years ago) shot with a 11mm dia shaft until he tried my Z2 and then switched.

And to be fair, some that even matched or surpassed Predator right here in the USA......!
 
Last week I had the opportunity to visit with Lil Joe Villalpando and he allowed me to try his Jacoby with the hybrid. I'm by no means an expert at these mind you but when I hit the CB with MAX left and right (on the equator) with the OB/CB parallel to the long rail the OB came back and collided every time with the CB. When I hit a straight in the CB sat there spinning for approx 20-25 seconds with the same stroke.

The theory of so many pieces reducing the inconsistancies vs other laminated shafts makes sense to me. Wonder what the down side might be?

I'd be interested in one but my shafts have a wood pin, .680 joint ... and who the heck knows what the taper should be for 3C with this design. Its not to be I suppose.

Sounds solid. How was the hit and feel of the shaft? Diameter of the particular shaft you used?
 
I have an Edge Hybrid Shaft that is 11.9mm and it is awesome. I test hit several other LD shafts and they all had at least a little bit of deadness in the front end of the shaft, if not a lot. In my opinion, the Edge Hybrid hits like a solid maple shaft so I feel like I am not sacrificing any feel from a standard shaft. I also get more roll out of my cue ball too. I highly recommend them.
