No matter who we vote in for the 5th guy the americans are in trouble. Now dont get me wrong i will be rooting for team USA all the way but i think they are in trouble.

On paper the "Peans" have to be favored. But, it's our home court and there's going to be a very different flavor to our team.

Recall the last Ryder Cup when Tiger couldn't play and we were all "the Europeans are gonna kill us!" On paper we were big 'dogs. But some crazy US dudes, among them - Boo Weekly and Woody Austin - brought such fresh air to our team, that we took it down! Boo was riding his air-horse around and Woody went snorkling mid-round looking for a birdie!

KK9 <- still needs odds though :)

I really don't see how it's that big of a mismatch...the Europeans might be slightly favored, but I'd say that has more to do with chemistry and playing as a team...I mean really...which match up is that out of line...

Mika vs Shane -- Coin Flip

Ralph vs Archer -- Coin Flip

Thorsten vs Corey -- Coin Flip (Corey might not be as dedicated as we'd like him to be here lately but with his break, nobody has to like it)

Neils vs Dominguez -- here I do have to go with Europeans...but Oscar has a lot of heart and as we've already seen if anybody can go from being the underdog to just dominating in a match he's the guy (and his safety play is just sick!)

Darren vs (unknown) -- depending on who's picked here, I'd have to say there is possibly a very slight advantage to Europe, but do you really like Darren that much over say John Schmidt, Donnie Mills or Shawn Putnam?!?! Could definitely go either way I'd say.

In other words...I think it's a lot closer match than people think at first glance! Here's to hoping for a heck of a dog fight from both sides!

Your right JW. Short races, anything is possible. Ive played each of team Europe members only once. I beat 3 outta 5. Got DRILLED by Mika in China and lost to Niels at 05 US open. Beat Daz at Predator 10ball, Thorsten at Desert shootout, and Ralf at Valley Forge. So I dont think your too far outta line saying USA has a legitimate chance of snapping this off. I think we do.

USA certainly has a shot to win. Fans need to come out and support the event. The Euro's do. They have strong #'s that come to the live event and feed (energize) their team.

WE GOTTA DO THE SAME!!!

And to your credit...I don't really think it's fair to say that all of us on here really have an accurate measure of your game, since some of us are just now becoming more familiar with you. So I freely admit, I very well might be underestimating how you and Neils would play and it could very well be more of a coin flip situation than I estimated...which just keeps making this match closer and closer! Either way...I have no doubt you'll give it everything you've got and I hope you stomp a mudhole in the European team! lol

Great line and true too!

On paper the USA team will be big underdogs. Fortunately pool is not played on paper, but felt.

Jay,

I was going to rep that line because it is outstanding. Must have repped another outstanding post of yours recently though because I got the infamous "wait awhile" message. We can spend weeks handicapping and figuring what should happen, we never know until the game is played.

I believe that the folks thinking that the players are close enough together in talent that anything can happen are absolutely right. I do think that team USA needs a spark. Oscar might provide that, I'm thinking Charlie Bryant might too. Wonder if they would let him wear his overalls?

I think the US team will be feeling the sting of embarrassment a little bit and wanting to be sure not to feel it again, might be all the spur they need!

US Captain is chosen how?

FYI, I just looked at www.matchroompool.com, and no voting option for #5 has been posted yet.

Side question: how are team captains chosen? I know Alex Lely was chosen last month, but I'm not picking up on anything for the US selection.

Varner again perhaps?
