The most amazing shot...

This is a reply in another thread but It didn't really fit there....and I thought you guys may want to add your own.

The below shot happened during some down time between match ups when the tour came through my town.A lot of the guys on the tour were trying this shot. Most didn't pull it at all (while I was watching) and one fella got it just about back to the side pocket. Then Larry Nevel did the following:

Larry did one of the most amazing things I have ever seen on a pool table....(really need to learn that cuetable site)...anyhow,this happened on a 9 footer.Standing at the short rail he put a ball right up against the rail a few inches away from the pocket,Nine foot away he put a ball in inch or so from the pocket.

With cue jacked up,almost at jump angle or higher he stroked the shot, through the rail (leaving chalk on the green) and actually shot draw on a ball that was literally frozen to the rail.

And you guys might think I'm lying, but I'm not.

The cue ball played the ball in the corner...and then it came back...all the way back to the rail it was shot from...and then all the way back to the other short rail and the almost all the way to the original rail again.
I'd call it 24 feet or draw or so.Shot on a ball frozen cue.THATS a power shot...the most amost amazing thing I've ever seen on a table.

Oh...EasyE saw it as well.It was nuts!

Hopefully this shows up...

Larry has the strongest draw stroke of anyone alive. I have seen him do this shot many times. I have made the shot myself not nearly as constant as Larry and for some reason not quite as far...I once saw him hit the third rail. Next time ask him to hit it with one hand. Just don't bet against it.

I said it was amazing shot...I DID NOT say he's as good as Russ.I mean come on...lets keep this thread reasonable.

Larry Nevel was shooting the shot you described at Valley Forge a couple of years ago. He would set it up exactly like you said and shoot it over & over. The few minutes I watched him, he made ir about 50% of the time.
The crowd was enthralled, to say the least.

That shot reminds me of another one of the most unbelievable shots I ever saw, and that was the one where Corey Deuel had to jump over a ball to pocket a ball that was up on the left side rail about 2 inches from the corner pocket. His cue ball was about 3-4 inches off the foot rail and near the first diamond of that same rail. He not only made that shot, but he drew it back for position on his next ball. If I remember right, I want to say it was in a Mosconi Cup match several years ago.

How have you been buddy?

Been doing pretty good.Still making a shot or two I have no business playing and missing plenty I should make...somehow managing to win more then I lose though.

Did you make it back up for the 1000 added tourny a few weekends later?

As far as the shot,I'm glad others have seen it and were equally impressed.
It's cool stuff no doubt.Hard to imagine without having seen it with my own eyes.

So you wannna talk about amazing shots, huh? Try this one on for size....

We were gambling with some dudes at Jack N Jill in Glen Burnie, MD some years ago. We were backing up Bebeng Gallego against some local dude whom he was spotting the 5 & the 7 for a sizable bet. It was a race to 9 and Bebeng was on the hill, the other guy's score was 5 or 6.

Anyways, Gallego ended up with this position: long rail with the 4 up near the corner pocket, cue ball below the side pocket at a slight angle, the 8 about a couple of inches off the rail below the side pocket and the 9 about an inch or two from the bottom corner pocket.

Even before Gallego started stroking his shot, Antonio Lining who was with us at the time said "Match is over". I turned around and asked him how and he said "Watch, he is going to make the 4, draw the cue ball, it will go around the 8 ball and kick the 9 into the corner pocket". I couldn't believe what I heard from him simply because there was an angle on 4 draw shot, it will not come straight back and there was the 8 sitting on its draw path.

Well, Gallego stroked his shot a couple of times and drew the shot. The way he did it, as well as I can remember it was the way he flicked his wrist on the stroke. He made the 4, cue ball came spinning back, past the side pocket, hit the rail just after the side pocket, bounced off a tad, went spinning past the 8, hit the rail again and kicked the 9 into the corner pocket. Game over!!

Dude's jaw dropped almost to the floor, crowd went wild. Gallego collected the money from the light, asked the dude if he wants to try again, dude just shook his head, speechless. We knew it was just gonna be one race so we made sure that we win it.

Look, you tell that Nevel dude he got action anytime from Gallego or Lining and they will show him a shot or two. Amazing shot huh, you aint seen nothin yet!!!

Well hasn't this thread taken a turn!

Look dude, woofin at Larry through me aint gonna help.I don't know the guy,I just watched him play for a while when the pro tour came through my town.

I have no idea about the guys you mention or how well they play.As far I know they might be the best to ever play....But I gotta tell ya,if I had Larry's game,I'd gladly pay to find out.

The bottom line is you have a better chance of telling Larry that then I do...hell I might ever see the guy again.

I'm sure someone here knows someway to get in touch if you are seriuos, but it aint me.

You can tell him. May I suggest standing on a chair, so he can hear you, and being very polite.

I'll pass the message to Larry. Nobody in the world can touch him when it comes to stroke and power shots...NOBODY!

I'm just going to point out that I never said anything about masse shots. I said stroke and power shots. Although, he has made a masse or two in his life. :)
