wait wait wait. wtf is the pacific rim expo??? i get the pool magazines. i read these message boards. i see what people are talking about on facebook and i never heard of this event!

and on a more bizarre note, why is the "pacific rim" expo in the middle of nevada??? my head hurts :speechless:

I have known Tony for a long time. Although this bashing of him might make some people feel better, it's not going to help people get paid. There's lots to be said about anyone. If you have never royally screwed up in your life, feel free to bash Tony all you like. Yes he has a huge ego. Yes he screwed up royally. Yes it's bad. But a solution to the problem is not bashing him personally. I would like anyone who has taken the chance to put on a tournament like he did or opened many rooms like he did, tell us your experiences and difficulties in making it work. The Tony I know is a stand up guy and he has his failures like anyone else.

Nobody really gives a crap about the Tony you know,what hes done in the past,or what a GREAT guy he is.He took money and defrauded players.The news said hed pay out of his personal account if it didnt get straightend out.Why wait to do that?If he has the money,which I doubt he does then pay up, NOW. Its never a good idea to defend a scammers integrety when their caught in the act and have none!

"Stand up" guys pay people the money they're owed, regardless of their situation. It never fails to surprise me when other people have such a low bar when it comes to character, as you have clearly displayed.

No I don't know the guy. No I don't have experience running tournaments. But the facts don't lie, and these players weren't given the money they are owed. On top of this, they were lied to about getting their checks over and over. There's nothing stand-up about that.

I just did a rant about how the powers that be in pool rob us blind. its posted in the main forum and its on tvmike.tv === and then I heard about this..... so.... another TRUTH ABOUT POOL surfaces.... now the question is---what do we do as a community to counteract this? we need to get some new blood in pool promotions and tounament makers. we need people who care about pool and the players...not about themselves and their own little circle===and all pool has their won littles circles---they are in every city ---and most of them are corrupt-- ie. NYC and Finnegan, Las Vegas and Joe Canella and John Kutcher, etc. Everywhere I live I see how pool is screwed up---who screws it up---how they screw it up---and how easy it is to fix. just nobody wants to speak up with me ====for various and sundry reasons---yet they all agree with me under their breath. SPEAK UP PEOPLE!!!! this is why we go nowhere in this game.

Accusations and conspiracies do little to bring in new investors or new tournaments. The coverage that CBS affiliate did does help to get attention from non-regular billiard people, and maybe one of those people has an interest in promoting billiards the sport or billiard players. Aside from that there are not many options to change things. Unless before a big tournament all the of the players decide to walkout and leave a promoter without an event to sell tickets to.

I am no advocate for or against Tony. Aside from a couple meetings in the past and my own participation in the USPPA and the Reno Opens I don't know much else about how he does business.

But, I must say this: Wow! The onslaught against Tony goes to show he began digging his grave a long, long time ago. Everyone was just biding their time.

What I am seeing; however is some attempting to use Tony's failings as a springboard to promote themselves.

My opinion, if it matters to anyone, is that the merits of one's or an organizations actions and business accumen will shine through without the exploitation of others.

True, Tony's actions reflect quite poorly on his character (?). If I did not have the $ together for an event, I wouls simply apologize and cancel/reschedule the event.

I wonder, knowing the $ was not there, he thought was going to happen during the event to bail him out. Blackjack? Or mistook how many friends he really has.

When hotel and travel arrangements are involved, these sort of events can only he cancelled with large penalties. Players who had airfare booked and hotel deposits paid may not get their money back.

I agree that he should have explained the situation and worked out some sort of realistic payment plan.

You don't need a lawyer for the amount you are owed. You can get your judgement in small claims court easily enough. A lawyer may even complicate matters.

Also... find out who legally owns the USPPA corp - that is the party who is responsible for the payment.

Good point, but one (promotor) would or "should" know where the event stands at least 60 or so days out.

I wonder if because Tony said he would pay-he is now obligated in anyway. There are some laws re debts that are kinda unusual. Some of you are also forgetting he doesn't own the USPPA allegedly.
