Please note I am in no way trying to compare this maker in any way to the Gus we all know so well.

Anybody know about this maker or have pictures of other cues by him?

He is in the Blue Book. https://bluebookofpoolcuevalues.com/Pool_Cue_Values/Pool_Cue_Manufacturer.aspx?id=GUS_ADAMS

I am amazed at the condition of the cue offered. I have no idea of the value.

I am more curious about what people might know about Gus Adams and/or if anybody has any other examples of his work.

Definitely a rare find.

Obviously a Titlist conversion.

Discussion?

No doubt an interesting cue. The wrap makes it look cheap until you look at the amount of work and care that went into it. Normally I don't like the cheap labels but this one has a star and that changes everything:cool:.

The points look great and yes for certain a Willie Hoppe Professional. Looks to be middle 50's maybe later. The Butt taper going to the bumper has a old Schmelke look to it. I believe Schmelke made a run of blanks for Brunswick?

I hope there are others here who know more about Gus. I would not mind the cue in my collection, but I agree with Jay, the price is a little steep.

The Schmelke Titlist blanks were not done til the late sixties.

This is definitely a Brunswick blank.

Here are a few links about Gus Adam pool tables and cues. These tables look like they may be sold under Gus's name, unless he build tables also.

It looks like it became a brand but the way it reads in the Blue Book, he was a cue maker.

GUS ADAMS
Maker of pool cues in the Los Angeles, California area in the 1950s.
In addition to building cues, Gus operated a billiard supply store in the Los Angeles area.

Yes I have since compared the close up of the points to one of mine and there dead on.

I have dug up a little on Gus but not much. It seems Gus was certainly a left coaster and converted a few cues but thats about where the trail gets cold.

FYI,
There are 2 "Gus Adams" cues on eBay right now. The other one has a $325 start with no bids. Looks like a terribly put together cue. Terrible.

The other one is not a Gus Adams, it's an Asian import.

The seller is just guessing "Gus Adams?" on the second cue to boost the possibility of the sale. He is the same seller as the first Gus Adams cue and got the second cue from the same source.

He also has this for sale: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1960s-FLYING-Spotted-Gazelle-8-Ball-2-PIECE-BILLIARD-POOL-CUE-STICK-CASE-Exc-/302347273643?hash=item46654d45ab:g:XYIAAOSwMvtZPjmV Obviously he has no idea what he is talking about. He is several decades off on the age of that cue. He actually think it might be a Cog. It is an Asian import, maybe from the 90's. Likely made by Kao Kao. Apparently someone told him that but he will not believe it, of course.

Sorry, I'm not at all impressed with this cue. Interesting from a history standpoint but that's about it. I don't think the is worth more than a few hundo.

That's what I find interesting. The history. The cue isn't particularly exciting in design or construction. Pretty wild looking.

Sure, a few hundred maybe. Worth a little more than a standard 1950's Hoppe Pro I would guess. Up to any potential buyer I suppose but I can't see anybody coming anywhere near his asking price.

I am astounded by the condition, of course.

I am still wondering if anybody knows anything of the maker or perhaps has pics of another example.
