The proper way to build cues

That's great to hear... I wish you the very Best. I also liked the one someone else came up with. RAC Cues... Come up with a good logo to go with it.

DeepWater Cues...hell I dunno...never been good at this name thing.

I may be interested in a shaft though...

With the wonderful Chinese imports and the quality of what's available overseas for imports and the cheap prices that go along with them, it's near impossible for the average USA based cuemaker to make something competitive.

With the future the way it is you'd have to have planned for this 10-15 years ago. Luckily I planned for this. I've had a stash of wood seasoned and properly stored to build about 1000 cues from 2018-2028. I stated hoarding the best shaft wood and conversion cue blanks I could when I was in my late teens and early twenties and have had it carefully seasoned and turned and waiting for over a decade. Only the best and dead straight stuff is still in the shop, anything "out" or that moved was sold off.

I had built over 300 cues by the time I was 22 years old and never signed one of them. To this day I see them bought, played and sold and they go with no name on them.

I'm recently retired and am going to start a very simple line of cues again towards The end of 2017 with playability and feel in mind and since I bought when the buying was good they'll price $200-400 each for a highly customized cue. I've studied splices and joints and even how what type of finish and epoxies used can influence sound and feel so this is cool and the buyer will be able to custom order finish based and the feel and sound they want.

No inlays, no "monsters" here just solid playing cues.

No all I need is a name for the cues, what do you think?

I'll be offering free shafts and cues to Az members to try as well. I have a Patent on a LD shaft model also that's pretty cool and not "gimmicky" at all and I think you'll enjoy them. I know several very high end players that do!

So, if you have a name in mind let me know, otherwise stay tuned...

Thanks!

Triple S Cues. SSS. Simple, solid, superior.

So I'm curious what is the average amount of time you take to build your cues the proper way.

....average USA based cuemaker .

I've had a stash of wood seasoned .....

No inlays, no "monsters" here just solid playing cues.

.....all I need is a name for the cues, what do you think?

1. "Seasoned cues"

2. "USA Cuemaker"

3. "Solid Cues"

4 "No Monsters Cues" :p

You already said it in the title of your post... Proper Cues

Good luck to you! Looking forward to seeing what you have in store.

How about; Salty Cues or Salty Customs Cues (since your into fishing) or
SPC (Solid Playing Cue) just my thoughts.
Good Luck to ya sir wish you all the best

Don't use your username...as a cue brand it sounds cheap.

Some great ideas already here though, I like Angler Cues as well as Proper that have already been mentioned. Rather than add more I'll just put my vote in for one of those two. The first one you even got a logo design with and it looks nice!

I got it

How about IMFULLOCRAP CUES.

Thanks for all the replies.
I'm surprised everyone has been nice too. If I posted this in the "aiming" section I bet WW3 would've broken out LOL

Anyway I appreciate the feedback.
I'll show everything as they come out and so far the top names we like are:

1. Proper Fit
2. FIT
3. Salty Cues
4. TCCS - "The Custom Cue Shop"

We also do something really Cool on our joints and splices. We use a moisture detector and an infrared meter to detect any delamanations so we get super solid connections for great hits. I love making simple sneaky petes and house cue conversions so when we get a good one with no voids or delamanations we use only those, after we cut and turn them down and wait 5-10 years to check for any movement. Unfortunate only one house cue blank out of about 12 will be good enough to use.

Stay tuned! We will have the first prototypes out in a few months.

I would just put your name on the cues instead of trying to come up with something catchy. Let the quality and value of what you make speak for itself. Let buyers know you're proud of what you made and that you stand behind your cues by signing each one.

Or do what some cuemakers do. Just use the name of an another cuemaker or copy his logo.

I would like to know how the OP produced 300 cues by age 22.

Red flags

Company name : red flags
My suggestion is to step back and do a real cost analysis of your product ( not just materials but time also ) cuemaking very quickly changes from fun hobby to job when the orders start coming in
Customer don't give a shit that your working almost for free as soon as that deposit is sent

There is a list of failed cue maker that thought they were going to produce a cheap perfectly executed cue

Oh there are red flags all over this thread. I want to know what teenager has exotic hardwoof turning squares stockpiled away for 1000 cues 15 years later. I want to see examples of the 300. I want to know how he retired at 35ish and is now gonna build 1000 free poll cues. I wanna know how many are impressed with moisture meters, that know they are not for checking finish.

I keep visualizing imported cues for some reason.
