The right movie will put pool on the map

It's very simple. All that needs to happen is for a movie to be made all about the life of Minnesota Fats. That's the 1 name that almost any non pool player knows. It would be immensely successful. Pool would be popular as poker is now. Lots of hustling and trick shots, since this is what the non pool playing public wants to see. Loosely based on reality. Problem solved.

i find it hard to argue with people when they are right.

Heck, just do a movie about Earl. Can't you just picture the trailer for this flick with all the highlights Earl has provided over the years?

Earl.....you gotta love him, for his entertainment as well as his abilities!!!

Of course they will probably have Jeanette Lee play Fats because the clowns in Hollywood would think it's more appealing.

Two wonderful right movies made Pool come to life, Color of Money, and Hustler. They were like an energy drink that made thing happen for a while, but making pool come to life in 2009 like it once was will be hard as pool has more competition than ever before.

The right movie is the only way it'll happen. The Fats movie would be perfect.

Pool will be as popular as poker when someone turns $39 into 2.5 million.

Which....ain't gonna happen, at least, not the way Pool is set up now.

Donny, you have the right idea. It's a no-brainer. The problem is where the rubber meets the road. You need a good story. It has to be told in an interesting way. You need good, believable acting. Most of all, you need a way to get the audience EMOTIONALLY involved. Hell, the story line can be absol-frickin-lutely off the wall, but if it's done right, and can draw some strong emotional reactions, it'll be a winner.

Eric >"Poolhall Junkies"?

I heard Vivid was working on a new movie, not sure if it's 100% a pool movie, but I know tables and cues will be involved....

I'll do some research and get back to you....

I would say Mosconi would be a more logical choice. The title needs to be nothing more then "Mosconi". I actually think we don't really know that much about his real life and I have a feeling a little research would turn up a very interesting and complex man the public may also find interesting. There does not need to even be that much pool on the screen and certainly not the silly depiction that pool always gets. Pool will be the back drop but the story will be the man. I could honestly see such s screen play and movie. If I had the skills I would be writing it right now. Fats was just a cartoon figure who even when he was out and about got tiring very quickly. He was a bit ridiculous to say the least. This has nothing to do with the debate could he play or not. He was just very ridiculous every time he opened his mouth.

Nobody outside the industry knows or cares about Earl or his jerkass behavior.

I totally agree. I think Ralph Greenleaf's story would make a good movie, better than Fat's story. I know, nobody outside of pool knows him, but who knew Eddie Felson? Greenleaf's story has all the elements of a great movie...heroism, drama, romance, tragedy. Done right, (read big bucks) it could be the ticket. Done poorly, it could be another black eye for pool.
:p

I think that making a movie about a pool icon would be great, but it needs to be done in a way similar to "RAY" (2004). I think that Mosconi would be a good choice because a lot of people like watching modern movies that take place in what people consider the prime of US civilized and most classiest era.
