I wanted to announce a new award to be given to the professional player who best exemplifies good sportsmanship on and off the table during the course of the year. The first honoree will be announced at the U.S. Open this year. There will be a special trophy awarded plus a check for $1,000.

This award is named after Tony Robles, who has been the model of good sportsmanship throughout his career and best exemplifies the most admirable qualities of a sportsman and competitor. Not only is Tony a very talented player, but he has continually contributed to our sport and given back to the game in so many ways. He has earned the respect of every one who knows him and has competed against him.

To win the Robles Sportsmanship Award a player must exhibit all these same qualities and bring honor to our sport.

The first pick is a hanger, Tommy Kennedy. Very good player, not great, but meets every qualification for such an award. I can't even think who would be a close second.

First pick Tony, second pick Tommy for sure.

Jay,
You couldn't have named this award after a more deserving person.
I've known Tony for a long time, and he might be the nicest guy you will ever meet.
Tony is a true ambassador to pool, and shows everyone respect and a smile.
Whoever wins this award should be truly honored.
Best,
Ken Kerner

I felt the same way. I'm not one to wait until someone has passed away to recognize them. Why not acknowledge them now for their achievements?
