The TIGHTEST pockets (3 3/4 inch pockets) in the WORLD?

World Snooker never disclose the exact size (no idea why), although snooker fans seem agreed it is roughly 84 mm (which is something like 3.25 inches I think).

This however is fairly representative for a club table:

Actually I was wrong about this being typical of club pockets, this article is quite interesting, it seems club pockets are closer to 3.5 inches typically (frankly I'm sure I'd still be rubbish if they were 4 inches ;-)!

I think this table wins... wouldnt want to play on it though.

Wow! It doesn't even look like a shot down the rail would go in. Looks like it would hit the point and bounce out. Scary.

Agreed. Almost pointless.

Mr. Hustle is almost right, Its absolutely pointless for any rotation, 14.1 or 8 ball and I just have zero interest in 1 pocket. I will stick with my 4 1/2" Gold Crown, at least I can pocket a ball and still play position.

Break and run or miss and clear have become just too common in modern day pool tournaments. It's time to tighten the pockets so you reduce the predictable nature of the modern game. It may be frustrating for some, but its time to reward precision.

I'd like to see some pros play bank on some of these gaffed up tables. It would probably make them want to quit the game.

Diamond pro specs are fine with me.

This whole thread reminds me of the saying....

You want to make the pockets play tight, then raise the bet.

I can see the merits of tight pockets but at some point it becomes absurd. Might as well just make it snooker.

Saw Earl play on one of those super tight Russian tables at one point.
I think it's on You Tube.
It is and it's a great video. Quite a few shots where the "cueball" is the one they pocket

those might as well be 5" with that shallow of a pocket shelf...

So every tight gold crown on the planet plays like a bucket table lol? 4 inch pockets are 4 inch pockets, the difference is whether you hit it clean or not. You must play pretty sporty if 4" gold crown plays like a 5" table.

I know I'd rather play on a 4.5" or 4.25" diamond than a 4" gold crown. Unless we are talking about One Pocket. I love me a 4" diamond for One Pocket. There is a 3 7/8" Gold crown that plays plenty tight with a shallow shelf.

That statement is complete nonsense. I guess you don't have much experience with these Ernesto Dominguez custom rails. They're fair but plenty tight. This is fairly typical of West Coast tight pockets on a Brunswick.

It is very easy to answer questions or settle disputes like this. Just take three pocket measurements, plug the numbers into the table-difficulty-factor (TDF) calculator, and see how the rating compares to a wide range of tables, including some infamous tables around the country.

Dave

Yes and my table was up at the top of the difficulty factor list at 1.14 .

By the way, I think this is a pretty good scale, but not definitive. As I mentioned before, I would put my table and the Fat Boy table at about 20% more difficult than a standard Gold Crown, 15% more than a regular Diamond and about 10% more difficult than a Diamond Pro. I'm not sure if you're giving the pocket openings enough weight. The ball has to clear the openeing for cut angle and depth to come into play and there is a funnel effect on those shots. Cut angle and depth can be cheated with soft shots. The points are difficult to cheat.

Nothing more not fun than playing on a table where you can't let out a stroke in fear of being 1mm off and ending your run. Any table that had pockets like that I would just simply never play on. I play pool to have fun, not test my skill in hitting dead center of the pockets 100% of the time with no ability to create angles or use a loose stroke.
