The true cost of hustling

This is just not true... its trying to justify theft. Someone can want to gamble at an honest contest where he feels he has a chance and he likes to have a game with a little to play for. I don't normally gamble, but for 5-10 a set, I would play someone who was EQUAL to my level. If someone played me and downplayed his speed, and I find out after losing, it won't end when I quit and put my cue away, I guarantee you that.

Another danger to the room owner....

Your inability to grasp this concept is ponderous. 1 more time for you, "you can't hustle a man that is not greedy or possessing a larcenous heart", period.

Your inability or resistance to grasp this simple fact leads me to believe the reason you're so passionately incensed is that at some point in time in your life your larcenous heart led you into getting trapped, without the vision to see you were the sucker. Life's tough, it's tougher when you're stupid.

yeah, you would show him

I bet you would break his thumbs, I have it on good authority that this is the way
it's handled all the time, That's what I would want to do. Doesn't matter that I'm
so dumb that I can't tell after God knows how many games that the guy is stalling.
I lost and it's all his fault, he hustled me, and that's all there is to it. We used to
call them suckers, now they are victims. Obama needs to put a stop to this before
more innocent victims have there lives ruined by these neerdowells. Years ago
during the pool boom , there was action on every table, you took care of your
on business. If you got trapped, it's was YOUR fault. You didn't whine and throw a
fit because you didn't have enough snap to figure it out. And didn't go around
knocking his game or anyone's game. You marked it down as a lesson, it came
with the territory and sucked it up. The only time you heard this ( i was hustled )
crap was in bars from a bunch of dumbass drunks that had seen the Hustler.
Not now, I'm a victim, and if management, or the government won't take care of
me and protect me from from these weasels taking advantage of my greed and
not being able to figure this out on my own, I'll beat him up, break his thumbs,
kill his wife, all his friends, burn his damn house down. That'll teach him.

You live in a world of make believe.

Look at the scams and BS those in the federal government pull on us all every day. People are sheep mostly...which is why Hillary is gonna get the chance to run this country into the ground.

Some guy hiding his speed in a pool hall is of no consequence.

Being good at pool is skill. Unfortunately for pool players, it is not a marketable skill that pays well.

People with skills that allow them to make a comfortable living and have money left over to play pool for fun, what are they ? League players for example. Do you call them all sheep ?

Call them what you want, they look happy and are having fun.

I have no problem with people trying to live their dream of being a full time pool player. I wish them luck. They want to hustle to make money, go ahead. Just don't complain that society, pool hall owners and lower level league players owe you something.

$5-$10 a set lolololololol, no wonder you feel the way you do - there was a saying that eludes me right now ( something about a pin not being able to penetrate. 😊) BTW , how would it not end? What exactly would ya do ( besides pay your half of the $20 table time lololol?)

Great post!

Died years ago.
When you hustle anyone you owe them something.
A good time.
They have to have fun.
The skill needed is just that.
You know that you will have a blast.
They have at the end of the session look you in the face and make you know you are welcome.
You know? That is the hustle.
Anyone can drag off something dead so to speak like a vulutre.
Everyone hates vultures.
Hustlers were usually well likable.
That and broke,
Nick :)
The old saying is get a job.

Good post! An old friend of mine once said nearly the exact same thing and he heard it from a guy he beat consistently!

If you don't play the game well enough to know when you are being "hustled", then you shouldn't be gambling at pool.

I can tell the difference in a guy getting "lucky" and a guy who knows how to play.

Snake from Dallas tried that with me, ran 2 racks with a 1 piece Ebony Dufferin them missed/played safe on the 8-ball in the 3rd. The 8-ball didn't even come close to reaching the pocket but of course I was hooked and he was saying how "he missed", I just smirked and laughed. He was steered into me by a guy who manages another pool hall about 15 miles away, the guy even had the gall to walk in with him to watch us battle.

After it was done Snake was yelling about being double-steered because I got lucky enough to win the last 2 games after it being tied 7-7. I'm glad he was so in a huff and didn't want to play another set because he was a better player than I was for sure, but it was a sprint and not a marathon so I got lucky and squeaked one out.

So , as long as you " feel " you have a chance , what's the problem? No body's problem but yours if you're a sucker. On a positive note can't imagine too many people are trying to " hustle " you for $5 a set lol

How about the guy in the ring game who seems to play just good enough to win no matter who he follows? Is he better than everyone else in the game or just lucky? Or is he controlling the play? Is he hustling?

Oh, I get it all right, it is a combination of his dishonesty justifies yours, and do unto him before he does unto you.

I just think it is a crappy mentality and a crappy way to live.

Never been suckered in any significant way in my life, so your armchair psychology is misplaced. I learned early on about the difference between sharps and flats and who to avoid. And what kinds of life each leads to. And which kind of life I wanted to have.

It isn't rocket science, after all.

So do tell us, how much WERE YOU got for?☺

You can't lose if you don't play. It is great how all of you sharps think all of us flats are so stupid, that if we notice people being robbed we must have been one of them. Yet we are the ones with the steady jobs long marriages, great kids, savings accounts, nice retirements, and peaceful productive lives. While the sharps generally get broken relationships, drugs, violence, etc.

But hey, they are the clever ones and we are the obtuse ones.

Uh huh.

I am that guy in the ring game, I have come to the conclusion that the best player doesn't

always win in a ring game. Gambling is not bad for us, it is bad if you don't know how.

That goes for anything you 'gamble on' be it sports/dogs/cards/dice if you do not have

any idea how to play, make sure you don't gamble on it. Hell the casinos will 'teach'

you how to lose money at a number of games, does that make them hustlers? I free-

wheel for cheap sets, I don't play down, but stroke out shots that makes no sense

other than how I can move the cue ball three rails. It isn't hustling, I lack interest in

the game when there is less on it. You have a better chance with me playing 10 and

20 dollars sets than 100/500. Not a hustler. Who among us doesn't bear down when

more is on the line, $$$ or first place in league or a tournament, we all do it, some

better than others. I know playing a better player excites me, I put myself in that

game to fight my inner self, knowing I have no chance unless I perform the best or

even better than I can. And surprisingly I sometimes show up, and others I lose, but

I can blame no one but myself for the loss. More times than not people who have no

chance with me call me out...not a hustler, so I guess from now on I should say no

to people who want to play for some cash, because they think they have a chance to

beat me.....easy $$$ is what everyone is looking for, sometimes you find it, other times

it finds you.

A wise friend once told me that gambling is a business. If you're not in that business, don't do it.

Funny, thing, I never saw so many people justifying stealing in MY life.

I think I was just hustled out of the most precious thing in the world...Time. You absolutely

stole minutes from my life thinking of what kind of torturous event or events that has happened

for you to think people are not savvy enough to figure out who is laying down a lemon to get them to gamble...

One thing is certain, this election proves one thing, 50% of Americans are suckers who deserve to

lose some money.
