The Unfinished Run...

I don't know where to begin. Last night while during league play, one of my teammates and good friend, was in the middle of running the table out when all of the sudden, he just collapses to the ground. It looked like it might be a seizure or something similar, but soon found out his pulse was slowing and his breathing had stopped.... I was the first one to him to try to help him through whatever it was. Then the breathing stopped entirely so we started to do cpr, then a nurse that was playing on a table accross the room came over and her and another continued cpr until the ambulance got there. By then it seemed to be too late. They shocked him 3 times to no avail while there.
They rushed him to the ER where after another 15 min of trying to revive .... he was pronounced dead.
I am sorry if I am being a bit to graphic for some. Fred Shapiro , the eldest of my teamates had had a massive heart attack just as he was getting ready to run the last three balls off the table. He has been a teammate for the last 3 years
and a friend for even longer.
It just dumbfounds me that when its time... its time. I spent all night up and couldnt stop thinking about everything, including all of the petty things that us and our loved ones bicker and argue about that now seem futile in the big scheme of things. I am sorry once again, but this place seems comfortable enough and with good enough people that I can share these thoughts with everyone, so that they too can try to look past all of the little things and share this time that we have together like it could be our last... because it could be. He went quickly and doing what he loved to do. It is not the first time that I have heard of somone dropping in the middle of a run like that ... but it is the first time that I have seen or experienced something like that. Once again thank you for your time everyone, and your support. So I Dedicate to Fred, The Unfinished Run .. I hope you get to finish it somewhere buddy... you will be missed friend.

Very Sorry for your loss, and the loss of the Pool community. We are few. A loss of a teamate is little when campared to the loss of a friend.

You definately never know when its your time. I want to say I am sorry for your loss.

Holy crap, didn't expect that from the title.....I am truly sorry for your loss....my thoughts and prayers go out to his family.....

All of us would do well to remember this and keep an eye on the big picture. Life truly is too short to get hung up on a lot of things we let ourselves get hung up on.

My condolences to Fred's friends and family. May he rest in peace.

With all of the negativity in the world, it will humble you to consider the alternative of life. My condolences and a short prayer.

Players dying while in the middle of a game. This doesn't happen with a lot of regularity, but happens often enough that it isn't a surprise when it does.

My sincerest condolences to you and your friend.

He will finish the run, just not at this table.

I am soo sorry to hear you lost a freind and teammate.
I hope when i go i'm doing something i love.

My condolences too go out to Fred, his family and friends.

Watching someone pass, right next to you is impacting on more levels than we can surely know. But usually it happens when we somewhat expect it to - most commonly in a hospital after an illness, etc. Unexpectedly like this must be very difficult to sort out and hopefully makes you stronger and wiser.

Sorry to hear of this Snookerd.

Respectfully, I was thinking the same thing. I know of two stories of folks passing away when playing.

Sorry for the loss of your friend.

My heartfelt condolences go out to you and Fred's family. A prayer to all for your loss.

Thats tuff seeing someone go like that. Just remember him for the man he was. New years eve my 18 year old cusin hit a telephone pole and crushed his neck, passed away 2 days later I can fill your pain...

He gets the win right. Im thinking thats taking one for the team to the highest power...

I am so sorry for the shock of this man's unexpected passing. My condolences to his family, to you and his other teammates, and to all his other friends and relatives.

Would that we could all pass away while we are doing something that we love to do.

Mike

Condolences. In our hearts, we all know that death is a part of life. In fact, death gives meaning to our existence because it reminds all of us that life is precious.
