The Women vs. the Men at the 2010 World Pool Masters

...What I noticed was that the men played more accurate safeties that the women couldn't hit and they, the women, had bad exicution on their safeties that let the men in...

That's what I've noticed watching women play. It is probably due in part to the gambling regimen that most male pros go through when coming up the ranks. You're going to sleep in the streets unless you know exactly when to apply, how to execute, and how to get out of safety play.

Chris,

Since you are a real player and get to play some of the worlds best, I respect your opinion. Also, since you play lots of money matches, I think your view is better than most about what speed people play and what sort of weight might be needed. Based on that, I'd be really interested to hear some examples of women we all know and what you think would constitute a fair game with you.

Also not trying to knock anything for you, but I don't want to know what game you would sign up for, cause obviously you want to book a winner if possible. Just looking for an honest opinion of a 50/50 game.

For example, if you played Jasmine, would you play even? Maybe she'd get the 8? 8 and breaks? What do you think it would take to make it a 50/50 chance of winning? This would be in 9 ball, race to 50 lets say.

I'm interested to hear what you think. Feel free to use a different big name woman player (Ga Young Kim, Allison Fisher, etc.), or if you prefer to not name names, lets just say "a woman player of top women's pro speed".

Thanks for your input,

KMRUNOUT

well all the talk about how good jasmin plays i dont know if i can win even.
but ill try and bet a lot.
say jan lee i think she would need the 8 and last 3 playing 10 ball from me.
im just a good male player not top tier and i play poker now days not much pool but will play any women a big set even.

So it was five women against 61 men. 27 men also did not make the final 32.

It's a start.

Well, in a field of 64, half(32) never get by the first round. The 5 women were part of that 32, the other 27 were men, so of course.

I wouldn't call it a step in the right direction as much as it is simple math. :)

Hatch lost to some dude Jayson Shaw just now...it's safe to say something crazy is goin on over there with all these upsets. Efren, Buste and company didnt even make the final 32. They need to start the whole tourney over again.

Mikey, you sound a little disparaging about Jayson Shaw victory over Dennis Hatch. But he is just another one of the exceptional talents currently coming out of the UK. We already hold two of the major World Championships - Daryl Peach is the defending World 9 Ball Champion and Karl Boyes holds the World 8 Ball title. The 2008 World 10 Ball title belongs to Darren Appleton and those three with Imran Majid and Mark Gray constitute the World Team Champions.
Add to that the capture of BCAPL Challenge this week by Chris Melling and these tiny islands are proving a major force on the World pool scene.

It's like the bad dudes in the neighborhood or hood aren't so bad when the go to the wrong prison.

In time, they will adjust or give up.

Thanks, I appreciate the info. Yeah it sounds like Jasmine plays pretty damn strong, especially if she can take 3rd in the 14.1 mens tourney. She has a strong break too...might be able to hang in 10 ball. From what I've seen on ESPN, however, I think she is way behind you in the safety game.

As for JL...8 and last 3? Wow...that seems like a lot. Would love to watch that match...but yeah, you're probably right!

Thanks again,

KMRUNOUT
