There's a new KING of pool

Oh, and what was up with the after match scene, efren sat in his chair alone for a long time and nobody spoke to him or offered him a Marlboro or a karaoke trip?

Did he not have people there with him?

Correct!

No offense or anything, but that is what usually happens in many types of sports when one person wins and the other loses.

Such simple logic may be above the heads of many...

By the reasoning of many here, since I have a perfect record against Willie Mosconi (one game, one win), I must be one of the greatest ever!

You are correct. One game or one match means very little.

What was efren's highest # of balls run in a single inning?

He looked like he was prepared to play all night, but like Scotty t says, ' I never been beat, I just ran out of..."

It was time last night that he ran out of.

I bought it when the score was 2-2, so I didn't see those games.

After that, I think his highest run might have been 5 or 6. It was very typical that he would run 2 or 3, and then get out of line, or just flat out miss easy shots.

He had opportunities almost every single game, and just couldn't close. Like others have said, I think he might just be exhausted from the DCC.

Perfect description of being worn out/tired and played out...........There's NO way I would stake SVB EVEN against a fresh, well rested Effie.

I do think you are correct Shane might be the best player in the world and i think Efren can play close to that level sometimes now but Efren in his prime vs Shane that would be a match for the ages they are both two of the greatest players of all time and i fell lucky and its been an a real honor the watch both in my lifetime

I couldn't have said it better. Efren in his prime was beautiful to watch and nobody did things he did under pressure and don't count him out now because he's still capable of winning (he just won DCC One Pocket Division).

I'd put my money on Shane playing anyone in the world today and I personally think he's the best player in the world. I was fortunate enough to watch Shane win the last two US Open tournaments in Virginia back to back and he was undefeated in both events.

People keep on mentioning DCC and I agree you got to be great to win but I think the DCC format is PERFECT for Efren currently. Short races where he can concentrate and use his skillset and "intimidation factor" to his advantage.

Father time is nipping at his heels. He needs more time between matches to recover. The fact the he dug deep and got past Earl for one round shows the man has a tonne of pride and heart and can still bring out the inner Efren for short durations. Why do you think he plays chess instead of hit balls before a match? He's only got so many focused shots in him. When Efren is REALLY BARING down on a shot he frowns and looks a little bit like a Lynx.

When he looks like this at the table...lube up. This is gonna hurt.

Shane did sort of the same thing when he lost 1P last time. Just a minute to wonder where it went wrong.. this time there was just more to wonder about. Efren seemed to be just a little off at every turn and Shane was getting some table love. I hope tonight gets a fresh start. At 60, there's no doubt that he doesn't have the stamina of years passed, travelling and playing nonstop til he gets home.

I have no inside information, but........

Efren had something going on. He's never looked like he did last. Not just the mental mistakes. He kept swinging his fist into the air, holding his face into his palms, and at times just wandered around without going back to his seat. Whatever it was, it was NOT a passing of the torch.

He's had defeats before and never looked had this demeanor. Early in the 90's he had such trouble winning tournament finals and he didn't act like he did last night. Something else was going on.

Although he did look tired, it doesn't explain his demeanor.

Daren will be rooting twice as hard for Efren tonight.

If I hadn't witnessed it with my own two eyes...

I agree that Father time has taken his toll on Efren. But, if I had not watched last night's 11-2 match, I would not believe it. That was the fastest 1-pocket match that I've seen. They barely got in one break. I didn't time it, but it was lightning fast. And Efren was playing bad shots and bad decisions really early. He was (iirc) 6 to -1 on one match and lost it. I hope he can bounce back tonight.

Efren may be in need of more laser eye surgery.
The last time it looked like his career was over, he had his eyes done....
....and started robbing again.

Looks like he's favoring his right eye more.....like Earl.

From lag to final ball it was about 158 minutes. That included two breaks -- about 2 minutes after Game 8 for a bathroom break and then a 12-min. scheduled break just after 10:00. So the playing time was about 144 minutes for 13 games, for an average of 11 minutes per game.

I think Efren is tired out from the Derby to be honest, not trying to take it away from Shane as he is a great player. As for one pocket even for the cash, Frost has beaten Efren the last 3-4 times for the money and I do not believe Efren will get in the box for the money with Frost anymore. I think for the cash you have to lock Shane, Alex and Frost in the room, not sure what the outcome would be but some great one pocket would be played that is for sure.

i would still put Efren in that room with those guys and not be surprised when he walked out with all the cash. The higher the bet the better Efren plays. always has.
