This e-bay item seems like the bidders are going crazy

I have a similar one that I paid 1/3rd of that for, not too long ago. I don't get it at all. What do you think is going on? Typically eBay buyers have a little more savvy, unless there is something about this case I don't know about. 1150.00 wow

It must be something you don't know about. One of the underbidders is a very savvy collector.

Well Kevin, you always seem to know the most about high end collectibles, especially with your eBay expertise. I would really like to know the intrigue about this case. Mine even has "Fellini" and the letters "AG" tooled into the leather at the bottom, along with the same tag, and similar upper tooling as this one, but the dyed leather finish is more worn. So much for thinking 400.00 was too much to pay for an old 1 x 2 case.

LOL. Don't get me started on how many there are that know so way much more than me about high end collectibles, and I'm sorry I can't explain the case auction dollars. What I do know is that one of the bidders that was in for plenty $$, is a very savvy collector. I was trying to point out that there is reality to this auction, that it's not just some "shill contest".

The case seems to me to be through the roof also, however, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the collector has more bidding in him, he often does. I would suspect that he will win the auction and then share here at AZ, unless he's done bidding in which case maybe we could coax some info from him.

Who knows? That Szam came with what I thought was a nice Fellini. If I knew it was worth 5K, I would have split the auction up into two parts. BTW, what do you want for yours?

In a previous thread I pointed out the attributes of the case and why I thought it would go for more than $800,a figure someone thought was the ceiling. The combination of Tooling,Acrylic color(Desireable Red),and the overall minty condition all add up to a second chance to buy a fancy Fellini. You will pay much more than the original cost, you will also have one of the finer examples available to the public.

Thanks very much.

A pristine item with unique work by one of the most respected makers out of an edition that is now limited. That's what makes items truly collectible isn't it? When everything is right there's really no ceiling, the bidders have to ask themselves when they are going to have another chance at one this good or this rare. It then becomes about the relative desire or resources of the bidders more than any other criterion of value.

Thanks again for the insight.

IMHO it's a $1000-$1200 case, but what makes this one especially nice is the condition. Tooled Fellinis are very rare....and black is all the better. When I think of a tooled Fellini, I've always thought that you roughly double the price of a plain one for starters, and then adjust up/down based on condition and other attributes like HEH mentioned. Definitely a cherry case !!

I posted this in the wanted section. This case is being auctioned by a friend of mine. I saw the case just last Monday. The pics don't do it justice. I have a PM of an offer for higher than the current ebay amount. I have left a message for my friend to ponder.

I think it will go for $1500 on ebay. I am not sure how you all can see how one of the previous bidder/collectors were as I thought the names were now disguised on ebay. My friend did tell me that over 50 people have this item on their 'watch list'. Should make for an interesting last hour of bidding.

Bidder ID's are disguised enough so that the bidder's can't be reached by scammers, but it's easy enough to discern who the bidders are (if one cares about such things).

what condition ?

The latchez look like it been in the trunk and there are no pictures of the inside and the leather is so shiny Looks like a fresh shoe polish job to me. I've owned several 20 yrs ago. It doesn't look much adove average. Remember the flash adds to the fresh look I wouldn't bid over 400 because there are plenty around the country. Plus I want to see it in person before my cash would go. I have collected over 10,000 fishing lures and see plenty of repaints, and fakes and many polish jobs. It would be worth more if they didn't shine it and show the real condition. name is where the attention is mark

Gee thanks, great opinion from a guy that has spent his life collecting 10,000 fishing lures. Maybe in your next life you will get a real one.

I have got to say.....between pool cases and lures, The money is in the lures.
My cousin collects lures and i thought he was sick in the head to go to estate sales and pass up all that good junk for a stinky old tackle box full of dirty lures......until i seen what they were worth..lmao!!!!

Then i even gave him the ole' It dont matter what the book says its worth , it matters what someone will pay for it! well he wound up selling 10 lures at auction and bought a house! I then inserted foot into mouth!

My son in law went to a yard sale and bought a tackle box of lures for $5. He sold it on ebay for over $5k. Truth!! I couldn't believe it.
