world renouned cue maker Barry Szamboti and world renouned bullshit artist have collaborated and are proud to announce the "Fatboy" signature series of Szamboti cues. This is big news in the billiard world when 2 of the fattest people in the industry get together on the phone for well over a year to design what might become the standard of the indusrty in a players cue. Barry isnt taking on any new orders or repair work at the current time so it might be a while. But when the one of a kind signature series cue is finished the billiard world will be on its heels. It might possibley be a single cue series, but we have to start some where.

Because of the secrative nature of Mr. Szamboti and my rambling on REP whore ass about everything, there were many long hard fought details that will be present on the cue, yes it will have a tip, SS joint, and a wrap. It is a players cue so it will not be adorned with beatifully detailed ivory inlays that Mr. Szamboti is well known for this cue will play like all his cues and his dads cues-perfect, we didnt have to discuss that part.

When I have more details I will let the world know things are really going on, its true. The "Fatboy" name isnt just a name its a image in pool!!!!! And its truly an honor to start at the top with Mr. Szamboti.

no it wont have a bumper, infact we discussed that for quite a while, while I wrote the announcment with a bit of humor, there is one real cue behind the announcment, and we have had alot of fun discussing whats the cue is gonna be, I had a cool idea the other day and then Barry kicked it up a few levels. I hope he dosent get pissed I posted this but man i'm excited.

This cue will not be a "I'm gonna best the best Szam out there with more inlays, gold, diamonds". There seems to be a trend in cues to awalys try and make the next cue the fanciest cue, then the next one even more detailed more ivory more inlays etc. etc. etc. So about a year and a half ago I was talking to Barry about cues(suprise). And I had this idea to make just a plane jane cue, go the other direction-back to basics. Barry is my friend and honestly(i never told him this) I think I caught him off guard a bit. I wanted the most basic cue he ever made to play with, I mean play with it until it gets as skinny as a tooth pick-not a 674 inlay $342,500 cue. I was dead serious, Barry seemed a bit confused. as time went on we got to know each other I ended up with a amazing collection of his work-the "Tribute Cue", which I'm giving back to his family.

Anyways as we became closer friends he knew I wasnt joking about about building the best undercover player cue, Barry or Gus are the 2 greatest cue makers ever and Bushka is right there too, Barry is my friend-even If he never builds this cue, I never mention it here but we have became great friends cues being what brought us together, but we talk about alot of things other than cues.


We got to talking about it again the other day and I decided that I didnt want a bumper on it, a mutial friend of ours Mr. Roach showed me a pic of a barry cue without a bumper I liked. So I called Barry and we went over that, then I had a idea for the wrap, I could feel the wheeles in Barrys head spinning and he took that plan and improved it, I wont say what it is you'll have to wait and see. We have had such a good time discussing this cue, Barry said it will be probably the only one he ever builds, I truthfully hope it isnt, It has so many cool ideas in it that alot of people would love it, So thats why without Barrys permission, I labeled it the "Fatboy Signature Series". man its gonna be what a great cue should be a players CUE!!!!! I love the artistic gallery cues I have pleanty of them but its great to see a great cue maker get back to basics, and thats what Barry and Fatboy did.


Sometimes we all lose sight of whats important, a cue thats made to play good is what its all about, Not trying to out do the last cue. And WE DID IT!!!!!!!

Barrys cues are simply amazing, just being his friend is quite an honor
to boot. Man I can`t wait to hear more details about this cue.

your right about both, our friend ship is real, first time I spoke to Barry I was star struck and I live in LA and see/know alot of celebs, I had never been star struck in my life. I knew alot abut his dad, Gus and I had a mutial friend so I knew alot about Gus and learned about him 23 years ago, so after about 21 years meeting Barry for the first time was amazing to me, I was in a Taxi in /germany when I called him.

I didnt know we were going to become friends, that cant be faked, we became friends over a period of time, and I'm honored to be his friend because he is Barry, not because he is a cue maker. We laugh so much and that makes me feel good, swaping stories. Soon as my back is ok I'm gonna go visit him and eat "spags".
 
Fatboy you said something so cool I gave you some REP for it.
Pool cues will come & go but GOOD FRIENDS will be there for you.
And you sure do have a good friend in Barry thats for sure.
Ok I`m signing atta here I`m getting stoked now. Please keep us up to date on your FATBOY SERIES CUES.

I never asked, perhaps first of the year. I'm just lucky to have one being made, there is zero hurry on my part, it could be 3 years and I'd be happy, I really hope other people like it, A hard core players cue and I really hope Barry makes more of them if people want them, but thats not up to me of course. Its going to be a first for Barry meaning the design style, so it will be a one-off cue if he dosent decide to make more, Most people would like to have a one off cue but not me, this is just to good not to share,

Ask Barry to take you to the "Sub Shop" to have an Italian sub. He says it bigger than anything you seen and deelish.

perhaps both :smile: . As of now its a cue for me, but I hope people like it enough that they would want one and if Barry choses to make them I would be thrilled, This was a joint effort on Barry and my part to come up with it, its gonna be real different from any other cue he has made. My opinion is people are gonna love it or hate it-I love it.


Barry certainly dosent need to have a "Fatboy" line of cues to help him sell more cues(this isnt about that-but what an honor it would be-WOW), this cue(one cue) is the ["Fatboy"/Szamboti] edition-thats the real name of the cue(I called it the "Edition" as a joke-just funning around), I would be honored beyond words if Barry got orders for a couple of them and he built them, can you imagine that??? I certainly am not charging $$ for the use of the "Fatboy" name-even if he built a second cue for a customer with out "Fatboy" on it I would be equally happy. If he did use my name that this would be something that was never done(to the best of my knowlege) by the Szamboti family-would put me over the moon with honor and joy. I'm getting goose bumps typing this. Like I said thats up to Barry, So to answere your question is this a joint venture? no not now(its one cue) its up to Barry 100% if he wants to do more. I doubt he will because all of his cues are different, so for him to change his business sure the heck aint my business. But if he did, as I said I would be honored beyond belief, infact it would be perhaps the biggest honor I have ever had in pool, thats for sure.

What it is right now is that were just having fun-we spoke about it yesterday I wanted barry to see this thread right when I started it, I respect his privacy. He said it was cool, were 2 friends having fun-and that is more important than anything. I dont have any expectations, I keep pool, cues, fun and fun with the people in the biz.

Does that answere the question?? Seriously there is no secret except how the finished cue is going to look. I never discussed material for wrap, points, veneers, ring work etc. I just said a tip, ivory ferrel, SS joint, no-bumper, The rest shall be a secret until its unveiled. but if you have more questions I'll be glad to ansewere. but again were 2 friends having fun-thats the real important thing. And if doing a couple cues to make it a edition is fun we'll do it, but again thats Barrys call. Its his legacy and far be it from me to ask him to do anything other than he wants. Unless he wants to eat ice cream and not share it with me, then there would be a serious problem!!!!
