This is one awesome snooker frame.

When the ref misplaced that cue ball after his first failed attempt on the yellow ball snooker, I suppose Ding should have told the ref the ball was not correctly positioned (he obviously realized that it wasn't), but he chose instead to attempt the same shot repeatedly and failed every time. From where the ref put the cue ball, Ding could have switched to the much easier one rail bank and possibly even made the yellow by doing so. Have to really wonder what was going through his mind at that point in time.

This is why pool is unwatchable - there's no drama in it. The latter stages of a marathon snooker match is often pure theatre, with both players hitting the wall at the same time.

Being up 16 points with 13 points on the table, why doesn't Fu just lag it up (stick the 6 in front of the hole).

but snooker is unwatchable when ebdon and selby are playing!

I agree...to an extent. I actually wouldn't mind seeing a world championsip final of Ebbo and Selby, as finals are all about tension and drama, and who can hold their nerve: a couple of 'grinders' like those two can be good value, like two heavyweight boxers, on the ropes.

But they are death generally. I really fear a Robertson/Selby final, with each trying to out-slow the other. I've always had a soft spot for Ebbo, so am biased there.

I also wondered why Fu tried the shot he did on the pink. He should simply have gone for the pink in the corner and played position on the black. I saw no significant risk in just going for the shot.

I don't understand?

You can see this on any league pool night anywhere. Players making bad decisions, missing shots and getting lucky leaves. Was that really the most amazing frame ever?

I think he just meant it was refreshing to watch that type of exchange between two players over watching run outs and centuries
when the opponent gets to sit in his chair and watch.

I like to watch that type of play over seeing Ronnie whack his opponent mercilessly.

I think the most impressive parts of the video were the safties. I'll be damned if you see shots like that on any league pool night.

Cheers.

Btw OP, thanks for the video.

I didn't say any missed shot resulted in a lucky leave. I said the video contained both.

Yes, you said "missing shots and getting luck leaves". The word "and" conveys these two together. I think you meant "...bad decisions, missed shots, lucky leaves, etc ". Either way it was very high quality snooker with very interesting turns.

And thanks to my eastern friend with the long name for posting the other fascinating safe battles.

yeah, i think he "out stratagized" himself. he was probably worried about doubling the pink up chance it rolling near the black, leaving an easy snooker.
he should have played the pot and sent the cueball up table, had a chance to close out the frame, and he didn''t take it.

Like I said, just like league night where folks snatch defeat from the jaws of victory routinely. The bad decision was the big blunder there not trying to pot the pink of course then the ensuing snooker was a great shot that took a bit of luck followed by missing the fairly easy hit on the pink kick compounded by the scratch. Just hit the pink on that kick and it becomes pretty tough for the opponent still. It was a brain freeze I think. BTDT

Given pretty much all of that post it is evident you have little to no experience shooting on a 6x12 snooker table like that. The snooker that Ding played to get behind the black there was an extremely tough shot and a kick on a shot like that pink on a snooker table that size with the smaller balls and the way snooker rails tend to play is WAY harder then the same shot on a 9-foot pool table. They are not even on the same league.

Moving the pink up table like he did made the safety WAY tougher and if he bobbled the pink and leaves it closer to the black the chances of him actually getting hooked go up exponentially. Ding got into a crazy good spot on the safety to not just hook Fu but actually remove the kick off the long rail nearer to the pink.
