THANKS FOR THE GREAT UPDATES!!!

I must ask.. what type of balls are they using ? I know they are using Aramiths but are they like the Aramith Pro Cups (measles cue ball, centenials or... Aramith Pros, or is it totally different and made for the IPT ??

These are Aramith balls, but were specially made for the IPT. They look almost identical to the Super Pros.

Check under my computer it may come up as a "removable drive" but only when the camera is on and plugged into the laptop.

I know you don't have time to mess with it now, but when you get home, you should be able to run your transcribing software on your XP machine. All Windows computers have DOS built in. Go to Start->All Programs->Accessories and you should see a shortcut called "Command Prompt". This is DOS. If you click it, you'll have a DOS prompt and you should be able to do anything with it that you can do on your Windows 98 DOS. If you don't have that shortcut, go to Start->Run... and when the box pops up with a blank for what you want to run, type "cmd" (no quotes) and hit enter. A DOS prompt will come up.

Unfortunately, the DOS in XP isn't a complete package. When I use my macro software for WP5.1, which is FlashFoward, the computer freezes. I can pull up documents and edit them in DOS on the XP computer, but transcribing is impossible. If I execute a WP macro, the XP DOS doesn't recognize it sometimes. Believe me, I have tried to transcribe in XP using the XP DOS, but it's faulty. It may depend on the OEM software too. I'm getting ready to purchase a new Dell XP computer when I return home for my Internet computer. Even though it will have the DOS prompt under accessories, I am doubtful it will be completely compatible with WP5.1 and FlashForward. However, each OEM software is different. My home Internet computer is a Compaq, and maybe the Dell OEM softwre will be more compatible with WP5.1 and FlashForward.

I may purchase a new laptop too. I'm not transcribing on the road these days, leaving that for my co-workers to contend with while I am out of town. I know that having an XP laptop will afford me some features that I can't enjoy with this Windows 98 laptop.

I'm going to get ready to go downstairs now and wake up Sleeping Beauty. We have to turn in early tonight in order to wake up early for tomorrow's matches. MANY players said that they experienced trouble sleeping the night before their matches. Keith said that he couldn't sleep well the night before his, tossing and turning until 3:00 a.m. Scott Frost, who is playing today, told me last night that he was having trouble sleeping too before his matches today. I think every single player is taking this tournament seriously and is doing everything possible to come prepared. Sleep is a luxury on the tournament trail.

Doh! Shane VB lost 8-7 against John Wims.

John Wimms is from Kildare in Ireland (although they have him listed as Australian) he is Irish :)

John is a good player but IMO, Shane was the favorite in that match, a VERY good win for John.

Work stuff

Sounds like the folks you do transcribing for need to get off their virtual backsides and get with the 21st century. Surely there's a more modern way of doing what you're doing for them? :(

Heck, even the APA finally moved away from an ancient DOS-only app to a normal Windows app for their league operators to use in recent years. If *they* can do it, surely so can your employers. :D

Hi JAM,

It's a great reading all your updates!! Speaking of "legendary player" our own Hawaiian Brian is up there too!! He and Keith know each other. I remember when I just turned 21 and all us pool players were up in Vegas and we were killing time at a crap table. Just so happens the only "non-hawaii" person on the table was Keith! At that time I didn't know who he was because I had only been playing for about 2-3 years. Later after Brian and Keith were chatting and Keith walked away everyone explained that he was the guy on the Color of Money!! Brian also went to explain how Keith was a great pool player and how Brian met Keith way back when Brian was a roadie.

Also, (you know it was coming too) any info on how Alex is doing is always welcome!!! :)

He wanted me to go so bad AND bring the kids cause he misses them so much, but I said it would be stupid. If he was a construction worker thats like bringing the kids to watch him build the house.....in other words, that's his job, and he needs to concentrate and stay focused when he is there. The money is a lot more incentive too, and it's not like we are going anywhere!! haha! BUT.....if he gets into the finals I might think about hopping on a plane to be there when he wins!!!! lol:D

YAY YAY YAY wtg Jam and Keith, I had happy feelings about the outcome
of the match so more huge hugs.
Thanks for the updates Jam, I hope this thread continues to be about the tourney and not what UB port you need.
Have eyes crossed for tomorrow, best of luck.

JAM -

There are DOS emulators out there that should work perfectly. Look em up.

You can also run multiple operating systems as a second choice.

Thanks for the updates. You are my favorite sports writer :)

Ooh! That's a good option. I had forgotten about that.

Only really a good option for her if she gets a new, decent laptop, though. I doubt her current one would run XP, if it's as old as she makes it out to be. :P

The DOS emulator would probably be the better route, performance/hassle-wise though.

Yep, in the last rack at 6-3, Sigel is cueing over the 15. Linda says on her mike to the ref 'he touched the 15 with his sleeve, and moved it'. Ref was looking right at it and does nothing. Wasn't caught on camera but Linda is certain about it, and was talking to the spectators. Mike takes a timeout,
ref didn't say anything, Mike pretended not to hear it and kept talking and playing. Next shot was the 8 and made it, putting him on the hill at 7-3

Speaking of this...is the IPT going with fouls on the cueball only or not?

That sux. :(

Hope that the ref wasn't one of our own from up here.

No he wasn't. I didn't think I needed to say something, as the ref was standing right there 2 feet away watching the whole thing. I wrote it on my scoresheet that Sigel had to sign, and I told KT, lol.

That put Sigel at 7-3 instead of 6-4 and pretty much depressed me all day. I'll live though. :o

Thanks for these updates! They are very informative.

Regarding Flash Forward... They have Flash Forward for Windows. Also they make SpeedType, which is an update to Flash Forward.

You're quite welcome, and it is definitely my pleasure. I enjoy providing any tidbits I can. I know that when I am at home, I really like reading updates on the tournaments that I am not able to attend.
Jennie, here is everything you could possibly want to know about the VA state 9 ball event this wkend. ;)

I got two of your favorite southern gentlemen to step outside and pose especially for you Jennie. I told them that you would love to have a pic of them together and so they trotted outside in the Richmond heat, just for you! :p

Hey Phoebe...it looks like your man is playing great! He just blanked Tammie Jones 8-0 with 5 break and runs. He has a total of 12 BNRs out of 24 wins.

There is documented proof in at least two threads here that shows I predicted Alex to win it all. :D

Wow, that's great news jsp!!

I don't think a lot of people know how well he actually plays 8-ball....among other games. I know he has been practicing a lot and he is pretty versatile when it comes to adjusting to the cloth, so I really hope your prediction is right!!!

Phoebe, I asked Alex where in the heck you were, and he said you had to stay home to take care of the homefront. I was hoping to see you again. It's been a long time.

Alex has won all of his matches. He's a shoe-in to advance to the next round.

We heard that Hawaiin Brian was coming. There's a guy here named Otis from Texas who's wanting his autograph in an older book of pool players with their bios and pictures.

Phoebe, tell Alex you're coming to the next event in Reno. This place is COOL with a capital "C."
