thoughts on IPT final on tv today. . . . .

Mike has always been one of my favorite players. After the poor sportmanship he showed talking almost non-stop while Efren was shooting he goes to the bottom of my list. Johnnyt

Loree and Mike

Mike had to bribe Loree Jon to make her such PRO SIGEL during her commentary. Not once did she ever wish Efren well wishes or a chant of "GO IN" for a close shot, like she did for Mike. Wonder what kind of excuses he's going to give about getting beat, after all the trash talking he's been doing in the other King of the Hill episodes.

CONGRATULATIONS "Bata"

I thought the TV coverage, and the chance to expose some nonplayers to professional pool on a large scale-was great. It's great for the game of pool. TV coverage of any kind is good. It will only get better, from here! I'm hopeful the IPT makes it, so pool player's can make a living playing pool. Which we all know has been a though thing to do in the past! Good luck to all involved with the IPT.

You do know this match was played months ago, right? The answer is that he hasn't said much of anything. As far as Mike's talking during the match I didn't think he did anything all that bad. A lot of times you heard him talking to Varner or Incardona when Efren was at the table it probably seemed worse than it was if you were there in person. I think the mic's that the players have on make it seem like they are talking more loudly than they actually are. Also, I think everyone knows that Mike is going to flap his gums a lot so they're used to it.

It seems like all the commentators were on Sigel's side. They make it sound like Sigel deserves to win the match.

Maybe they were just hoping Mike could make it a more interesting match. Efren had Mike's number through the whole match. Maybe Mike will learn how to pronounce his name now!

The commentary seemed a bit one-sided to me, too. But maybe pooltchr is right: they probably were just trying to make it appear that mike can still make a comeback even when it was such a lopsided match in favor of efren from the start so people will stick around to watch.

Well....I don't ever remember Sigel's nickname being "the mouth"...so, obviously, this was changed somewhat recently FOR the IPT. This is part of the theater/show side of the whole KOTH.

Someone has to be a trash-talking king of the hill that everyone wants to shutdown and shut-up.

He's always been full of himself and whatnot - not all of that is show, but his actualy self, however, the excessiveness of it is for the show.

Let's not get too picky here ok? People are b1tching about how Sigel's acts, talks, plays in a tournament that wasn't even real (semi-real at best).

If mike wins the 1st set 8-0, and gets every roll in the book, the second set commentary probably goes like this. . . Lori jon "mike is playing absolutely perfect, I knew that there was no way he could lose, he has NEVER lost a final when his opponent needed to win 2 sets, he truly is the best pool player ever." The other 2 tools : "lori you are 100% right, mike is the best and even he said so, oh efren just made an impossible cut shot, but back to mike, he has to be the best living player, lets cut to a montage of random players saying how they idolize him, and btw, efren respects mike more than ANYONE! Even GOD!"

I saw the IPT on OLN for the 1st time this wkend.... My thoughts on it are pretty simple... I did like the "scenery"... the set up of the arena was very nice.

I'm not going to pick it apart but I will say that they need to get new commentators. Mike, Loree, and whoever else was in the booth...they need to be replaced. It was just bad.

I think Mike calling Efren, Efrem is just a way for Mike to blatantly disrespect Efren. He knew the odds were in favor of Efren reaching the finals and I think he knew that he didn't stand a chance. I believe he started calling him Efrem early on to try to pysch himself up and make him feel better about himself by disrespecting Efren. I could be wrong on this but I doubt it... that's just the kind of ass Mike is.

I was completely turned off by two things with Loree in the booth... 1st & foremost is how vocal she was about begging the balls in Mike's favor. The 2nd part that I didn't care for is that she did a horrible job in explaining why shots were shot the way they were (whoever else was there would ask her & she simply didn't know & floundered for an answer) nor was she able to see the pattern play & explain what shot the players were going to make next when the other person questioned her.

That's my take on my 1st time ever seeing it.

I would have like to hear less self promoting and more actual commentating... It was like an endless commercial.

Efren was wonderful to watch, his quiet and humble grace are why he is my favorite player.

I saw the first match. I was playing pool myself at "The Independent" and the poker players there where somewhat loud. Not to mention I was in my own pool match. However maybe it was a good thing I didn't have to hear anything.

I say it's the IPT's first run on TV. Maybe next time they'll do a little better of a job and get all the kinks worked out.

lol

my thoughts exactly!

Well, I'm sure that the IPT is going to do surveys and ask questions of those who showed interest and saw the KOTH. Based on that, they'll make adjustments for the production of the tourney at the Venetian.

I seriously doubt they're going to care what hard-core pool players think, those who came before the IPT have already tried to fish in that pond, and it is quite dry and a proven loser.

Whether they'll be a success remains to be seen, but first, you have to define success. Success could be making this all big, success could be making it appear like a winnner and selling it all off....

Mike has been exactly like that for over 30 years that I know. It is his own finely tuned personality, up close and personal. It is not for the show. The "Mouth" is the nicest name he was ever called.

When mike made his first straight in ball, he hooked himself, and efren rightfully laughed and mike got kinda pissed about it, i mean i found my self LOL'ing

I could not believe when KT made the statement that at the last U S Open 14.1 mike got mad and broke his stick. Mike did not break that stick on purpose. That cue was broke by accident. Mike even tried to buy that tape from AccuStats. What he more or less did was sorta like tap (a little hard. but not hard enough in my opinion to break a cue) the butt on the floor while holding the shaft in his hand and the cue broke near the joint.
Anybody can say what they want about all Mike's titles and how great he was. But in person Mike is a real Jerk and so full of himself that he would make a dead man throw up. I have seen him play on many numerous occasions and he has been rude to people unless he knew you. I even had the nerve to ask him for an autograph one time when he was standing and talking with Nick Varner and Buddy Hall. when their conversation ended i asked all 3 for an autograph. Both Nick & Buddy signed my program but mike wanted $20.00 for his and he was not kidding either, as he walked away when i refused to pay the money...........mike

Believe it or not

I turned down the volume halfway of the match. I simply can't stand LJJ comments for three reasons:
1) bias,
2) in 2-3 occassions can't predict even the most predictable shots
3) lastly for saying "I don't know" (along those lines) twice or thrice when asked of the shot/. If you are billed to be the professional commentator, at least make an intelligent guess of what the players are doing!
