Sorry....but side pockets must be 1/2” bigger than the corner pocket size you choose.
So...if you want 5” Sides (no more, no less)
Then...you have to have 4-1/2” Corner Pockets.
5” Corner............5-1/2” Side
4-3/4” Corner......5-3/4” Side
4-1/2” Corner......5” Side
4-1/4” Corner......4-3/4” Side
4” Corner......4-1/2” Side
I don’t think that pro-cut pockets (4-1/2” corners with 5” sides) is really an absolute these days. 4-1/2” corners with approx. 4-3/4” sides are what you will get from Mark Gregory if you just specify pro-cut pockets when ordering rails.

Hmm, Very surprising. They should be 4.5" corners and 5" sides.
That is the standard. Looks more like 4 7/8". I have made that
mistake extending subrails( I do know yours are custom built).
The folds of the cloth on each side pocket are 1/16" and together
that makes an 1/8" difference.
I think you will see that measurement at 4 7/8" if you use a ruler like this:

Yes, 4-7/8” might be closer to the actual size. I like the size though and I’m glad I let him decide what his definition of “Pro-cut” dimensions are.
I do not want any confusion, to be clear: I am not at all implying he did this on purpose.

No confusion, I understand what you are saying. I tend to think this is his preference since other forum members have reported the same side pocket dimensions from his rail work. I'm happy with them, I'd rather have them on the tight side.

4 inch corners are extremely tight, but could still be playable for higher level players as long as the pocket facing angles are no higher than 140 degrees. However, 4-1/2 inch side pockets,
regardless of the pocket facing angles, are a little over the top and virtually eliminate any shots to be made in to the side pockets from any angle sharper than 45 degrees - equivalent of an
object ball being played in the side pocket from the foot spot. Around 4-5/8 inch would be about as tight as you'd want to go for a side pocket, without completely changing the game.
Totally agree....anything smaller would be trappier in relation to the corners,
..I feel that’s the Golden Ratio for pocket tables.
Totally agree also.. 4 1/2" side pockets are very hard, and will limit play from all angles inside the foot and head spots.
5" side pockets allows play in those areas, and room for cross banking... But 1/2" larger than any corner pocket sucks.
My dream table... 5 1/2" corners with 6" sides.. (Not)

Mark doesn’t do anything by accident. Those final pocket sizes are exactly what he was wanting to achieve.
I had my centennial table rails done by Mark because he is such a perfectionist. My table is for practice and is tough to play on. The extra small side pockets makes players give extra consideration to their routes.
But, I believe 5 inch pockets are great for the pool hall. Small pockets belong at home. (I didn’t always feel this way)

Of course.
Maybe Mark should advise what the "majority" of people want, so that you will have an idea of how easy it would be to sell if you decided to sell it, but he shouldn't "dictate" what size pockets you want for your personal preference.
Sure! And in my case I wanted what Mark considered as pro-cut dimensions and specs and that’s what he delivered. I’m sure he can make them in whatever dimensions/angles the customer wants. With his experience as a builder/mechanic and professional player it would be hard for me to not go with his recommendations though.
Do you do the same with ordering custom cues?
If so-and-so pro player says, "this is the cue you should shoot with", do you automatically have to like it and adjust to it?
I probably would since I’m not a cue guy. I have played most of my life with a McDermott D-2.

The cue that I've played the most with is a McDermott C-14 that I bought brand new in 1985 and still have.
