Tiger X Ultra Shaft vs Predator 314

Sorry guys...

At this point we at Tiger have been so busy with show schedules (SBE, BCA Nationals, and BCA Trade Show), working on our new catalog, keeping up with production, orders, and daily activities that the marketing material for new products was the last thing on our minds.

Now that all those things are behind us :) , marketing the New Tiger "X" Ultra Shafts, IceBreaker Cue, and IceBreaker Tips are exactly what we are working on.

The more questions you all ask/post the better. It helps to guide us on the matter of what people need to know.

Regarding the shafts, the New Tiger "X" Ultra Shaft, does utilize the same 5 piece laminated contruction of the previous version; however the following updates have been made to the Ultra Shaft: the wood we are using is now seasoned and cured in our factory under our controls, our taper consistency has improved with a perfect 15"-16" Pro Taper, eliminated brass shaft inserts (joint) we now using only phenolic (except Uni-Loc), shafts are now available only in 12.75mm Tip Diameter, we have added a Red Fiber backing between the tip and ferrule, and all shafts come with Saber-T ferrules (no more Ivorine-3).

Behind the scenes, our production methods have improved greatly! We re-tooled about a year & a half ago and are now in full swing! Our inconsistencies of the past are over

The benefits to these changes are: decreased deflection (though still not as extreme as a 314-2 or OB-1), a much cleaner softer hit (your Joss cue can now play like a wood-to-wood joint), and with the wood curing process a 12.75mm shaft will still play crisp and on the stiff side (no noodle shafts).

All this adds up to a more consistent & accurate shaft that give you great control with the pill (whitey).

Doing our best to get the world out, but be patient with us as this job is a two-man operation. We don't have the resources and profit margins of the other guys, but we do our best with what we have.

I asked Corey to give us some inside but I did not like is answer. He told me he does not spend his whole day in the forum because he is really bz
A Predator rep would have answered the questions in a heart bit. No issues with Tiger since I use their shafts/tips/cues but I could have used a nicer answer for sure. Customer service/marketing at it's best and I am the one who started the thread... Go figure

Sorry you feel that way. I appreciate your enthusiasm, but if you preface our conversations by trying to go around the system, side-stepping our dealers, and asking me to personally drive 60 miles to deliver a cue tip for you, then really what do you expect. :frown:

Give me a chance to actually do something for you...don't ask me for favors like that. I don't even know you. Not that I would anyway.

As for Predator, maybe you are right. They are great people, perhaps they would do all the things I mentioned. If so, they are way better than me.

Maybe "Fart Sniffer" could elaborate.

What is a perfect 15-16" pro taper? If it was perfect, wouldn't it be the exact same every time? Perfect 15" taper makes sense. Perfect 16" taper makes sense. Having a variable qualified with "perfect" doesn't.

Don't know if this was stated in this thread already, but didn't Shawn Putnam win a couple events on the UPA back to back, after he switched to Tiger? I could be wrong. Just curious.

LOL!

At times a cosmetic imperfection can come up at either end of the shaft dictating where the extra 1" is cut off (shaft dowels are about 30" in length). This affects where the taper is.

Ideally, we will cut the excess off from the joint end to have the 16" taper. Most of the shafts (80%) are like this.

Yup, Shawn did. So did Hillbilly, Larry Nevel, and many more!

Last one for me in this thread.

Not sure what you mean by "Maybe "Fart Sniffer" could elaborate" but I did sent a pm to you and you are all wrong all over the place about me, you should be thanking me not the other way around.
It does feel like changing to Predator with that kind of attitude. All I tried to do was to get the word out and figure out the differences between the 2 shaft versions. pm sent to you.

Hey Tony,

I have an OB1 and it also makes Masse shots quite simple, but the draw is not all that great, it's just okay.

I had a 314 a while ago, and Masse was not easy with it. The draw was off and on.

Never tried the Tiger. Maybe we can meet up, and you'll let me hit a few with it.

P.S. Did you get the BCA going?

P.S.2 Loving the X-Breaker you sold me.

Thanks buddy. I will be this saturday on CBC and Sunday at Shoreline. I have the Jacoby and a Deviney with the Tiger X Ultra with me, I also have a 314 if you want to tell the difference. I still think that the X Ultra is the best shaft out there. I actually have to cut back on the masse when I do one.

corey, thanks for giving us the info on the ultra shaft! i didn't know you guys were coming out with a break cue. can you tell us more about that?

whats the red thing under the tip?is it a tip pad or is it a coloured carbon plate(ob-1 style).
i've been using an orig x-shaft for a few months now since i decided to sell the ob-1 and i have to say its a beautiful hit.deflection is right inbetween a std maple shaft and an ob-1.
can the tip pad be removed or does it have to be replaced when retipping....i don't get on with snipers

Used to work at Predator, now I work in a different industry. As for service I believe that anyone at Tiger and anyone at Predator would go through a lot to try and provide the best service possible.

People are very demanding and ask a lot from these companies, questions have to be answered spot-on otherwise it will be torn apart. Their marketing, their sales ethics, their everything is put under a microscope 24/7 and it's hard to not make a mistake or come off the wrong way every once in a while.

I'm not making excuses for anyone, just trying to put things in perspective from someone who has had the shoe on both feet.
