McChen said:i would like to get an ultra, but it seems none of the dealers have them yet. you can get them from tiger direct, but they charge full retail. corey, when will the ultra be more widely available?
also, what is different with the ultra? there doesn't seem to be that much different, same lamination technique, same ferrule. only thing i can see is there is now a red tip pad. and the joints are phenolic. maybe there is something different that i can't see from the pics. different taper? less deflection?
hejests said:I guess my question (and maybe McChen's) would be... what's different between the original X Shaft and the X Ultra construction wise? The original X wasn't really low deflection as far I remember trying it way back.
p.s Thanks Corey & BestKites for answering my other questions in pm.

hmmm good point. I'm still wondering though how the X Ultra and the latest X (right before the Ultra) compare construction wise. What's making the X Ultra low deflection (assuming it's lower than the latest X).McChen said:the original x shaft had a few different versions which makes it a bit more confusing. some of the older version had ivorine-3 ferrules and it was a normal shaft tenon, instead of the new ferrule design. and the taper was more conical. the later versions of the original x shaft seem pretty similar to the ultra. not sure if deflection improved with all these changes or not. platinum billiards tested one and it was only average but as i recall it was a very old version of the x shaft
bestkites said:When you call Seyberts ask for Rick and make sure you ask for the latest X Ultra... They still have some of the old X Tiger Shafts available.

Moochi maybe but quality shaft, no.Fart sniffer said:True, but in my experience one piece solid shafts with comparable ferrules hit just as softly, like a Meucci for example.
There are quite a few pros who play with Predator shafts and I'm biased since i'm sold on predator shafts. I've never played better since I started using predator shafts a couple of years ago and I don't have a reason to switch to anything else. I got to try out an OB-1 shaft last year at the US Open on a demo cue and I prefer the hit on my Predator shafts. I will say that i've never tried a Tiger shaft so I may be missing something.stevea said:I'll have to ask around to see if anyone shoots with one around here to try out. I haven't heard of anyone using one but i'm sure someone does.
Any pros you know of that use them?

compared to a predator and ob-1?
the 314^2 and the ob-1 are more or less equal regarding squirt, where does the tiger shaft come in? i'm pretty dialed in with the 314 and the ob-1 so if there was much significant difference with the x-shaft's deflection then i must admit i'd be a bit more reluctant to try...
thanks.
McChen said:i haven't played with an ultra, but a friend of mine has a later version of the original x shaft that i think is pretty much the same as the ultra. i didn't play with it a lot or test the deflection in depth, but i usually play with an OB-1 and the x shaft is definitely nowhere near that in terms of deflection. my impressions were that the deflection was on the low side when compared against other solid maple shafts. but not in the league of a predator or ob-1. hits nice though, a solid feel. while i love the OB-1, i also like to play with standard shafts, so I wouldn't mind having a nice solid shaft like the x in my case.
corey, can you chime in here and give us some more info on the ultra?
bestkites said:I asked Corey to give us some inside but I did not like is answer. He told me he does not spend his whole day in the forum because he is really bz![]()
A Predator rep would have answered the questions in a heart bit. No issues with Tiger since I use their shafts/tips/cues but I could have used a nicer answer for sure. Customer service/marketing at it's best and I am the one who started the thread... Go figure![]()
McChen said:i agree, the whole marketing around the release of the ultra has not been very good. no information from the tiger reps on here. on tiger's page no real info either. that flyer you posted, which is still on tiger's website, is for the old version, there is no updated one for the ultra. and the descriptions on tiger's site for the ultra shafts for sale say virtually nothing. how are we as consumers supposed to decide whether to buy this thing with no information about it?!?!
i have bought many other tiger products and they have all been great and i'm sure the ultra is a quality product as well. just would be nice to have some info is all...

200 for 5/16x14 with silver ring.
Have a 314,ob-1,tiger ultra and a Z2 in the case.
I like them in that order with the Z2 as the favorite.
Most of my friends who try my shafts like the pred or ob-1 followed by the tiger and the Z2.
fullsplicefiend said:100% agree. I think they must have just renamed the newer version of the X shaft. Thats the only conclusion I can come to.
