I just bought one at the DCC and I was wondering if they are really as sought after as a friend of mine told me.
I have really wanted one for a long time now...ever since a guy let me play with his....man what a sweet hitting cue!
But my question is, will this cue really appreciate in value? Did Tim stop making them? and if so, when? Mine is made from purpleheart and, I'm told, was actually spliced by Tim...not a chop job, and has a white buttcap with the TS logo on the buttcap instead of the forearm---any ideas as to when this was made?
Did I pay too much?---450.........Anyways, I love the cue...hits like a dream and it is in really good condition, so I can't complain.
I guess that was more than one question.
Thanks to all at this fine forum.
PEACE
David

Im sure it will appreciate in value if kept in great condition, since Scruggs no longer makes sneaky petes. As for the price, 450 isnt quite as bad as the 600 I almost spent last year on a Schick sneaky pete. Then I said to myself, "Why in the hell would you pay $600 for a sneaky pete"? So I walked off. Some of those guys at the DCC remind me of going to a car lot. Damned salesmen!!! LOL

yeah, I know what ur sayin..wheelin anda dealin...but I actually traded a Mike Stacey sneaky pete (which I did NOT like) and 150 for the scruggs. Not bad considering I paid 300 for the stacey and played with it for awhile.
Thanks

They are definitely sought after and are not made anymore. $400 - $450 is about right for one in good shape. They are very solid cues. Look to see the ferrule should be ivory. Scruggs stopped making them and refers SP orders to Bob Frye who made them when he was partners with Tim. Great hitting cues.

They don't all come with Ivory ferrules..........I guess some did, but I have only seen one with Ivory..........the rest were just the aegis or what ever he usually uses. Seen 6 or so with non Ivory ferrules.

i just bought one at the dcc off a fella. it has the ts stamped between the points on the forearm. it also has a cocobolo joint. i had to strip the finish off it cause it looked fairly bad. after the finish came off there were only three nicks in the butt. my question is : when were the sneakies with the ts stamp in the wood made? and about how many did they make with exotic wood joints?

Tim Scruggs told me at the DCC that HE DOES NOT and WILL NOT make any more Tim Scruggs sneaky petes. I WILL NOT sell ine for any price now that I know this. Mne hits like gold. I stupidly passed on one at the DCC and I won't do it again if the opportunity presents itself.

Crawdaddio,

Mine is a very old one with a Delrin butt cap and an ivory ferrule too. It has the T over S logo on the butt cap.The hit is super solid, for sure the best hit on a sneaky pete I've ever had and one of the best hitting cues I've ever used. The finish is almost gone - so it really looks like an old bar stick.

It's interesting that the Scruggs Sneaky Pete is in such demand. I've seen a few Scruggs SP's with joint and shaft collars, but they don't seem to be as popular as the true S.P. 's.

Just curious - why didn't you like the Mike Stacey S.P.? I've dealt with him and he seems like a great guy but I've never played with his cues.

I have a Frey sneaky pete and bought it new over 8 years ago. It is still straight and has a good hit to it.

It was my first "custom" and I will probably never sell it. Because it was my bar beater when I was younger it needs refinished. I paid $135 for it. Capped ferrule and wood to wood joint.

the Stacey I had was a beautiful cocobolo sneaky pete with fancy coc./linen rings...he made it in july 03 and I bought it used from someone in FL. After I had it about two weeks, I noticed a slight hop in both shafts, so I called Mike and he offered to look at it for free. So I sent it to him and he called and told me that he re-faced the joint and both rolled straight as an arrow. So I get it back and it APPEARED that he hadn't done anything(still hopping in the shafts). Now I'm not out to bash ANYONE on this forum...that's just what happened. I had planned to call him back for follow-up repairs, but I saw this scruggs and the guy offered enough for the stacey, so I traded it. BTW the stacey did hit quite nicely but was a tad too heavy for me, and the scruggs hits soooo much better.

Pretty sure you are describing one like I have. It is in 99% condition as well. Wonder what it is worth?

You all realize that Bob Frey and John Stankowski (spelling?) made all these sneaky petes, right?

All the best,
WW

I remember the TS sneakies being sold for $115 each and you could buy as many of them as you wanted.

LOL

Only if my stocks did that well.
