Tim Scruggs sneaky white butt cap 5/16 14

I am a bit thrown off here with the TS sneakies. The cherry ones are worth from what you folks say $600- $650 how can't one not in perfect shape one be worth $100-$150 less. Yes I am trying to sell the cue with SCRUGGS name on it, if it had LUCASI on the butt it would be a $100 cue. I will check all the rolls, dents, dings, scratches, blisters, cracks, warps, gouges, etc. out this evening and have a descreption ready tomorrow to try and get this poor old Scruggs sold. Thank everyone who has looked at this cue and not picked it to death. Joe Lolly is the man thanks Joe..

it is going to cost 100-150 to refinish it and if you have to buy a new shaft that could be up to 300 dollars from tim himself i believe. on a good day you might get both done for 300 but still that is half of what the cue is worth in brand new condition. So best case scenario if the shaft doesnt need replaced and is bearable you are looking at 150 dollars to get it to pristine shape. I would price this cue at 550-600 brand new. Subtract 150 from that and you got 450 at best. Hope this helps and you get it sold, his sneakies play amazing.

trigger, what dont you understand about a private message? you pmd him he pmd you back and gave you a price that should be it .. you dont bash his sale and tell people that its a bad deal or not worth this or that,,, groundhog is selling the cue he can ask whatever he wants. if someone wants to pay $525 for it good for them and good for the seller..its not your business..... scruggs s/p sell all the time on evilbay for 500-600 in this condition.so to most people thats what its worth..... maybe not on here where everyone is a certified cueologist . thats just my opinion but you know what they say about opinions. also you will never get this cue new and if you are lucky enough to still have one that is in un used new condition its worth way more than 600...

Tim RETIRED, Sold the shop! You won't get a refinish or shaft from him. His cues are worth more now. I think the rules in the for sale section are you like it and BUY it, or move on! He knows what he has and was taking offers on it. If you don't want it for his price MOVE ON but don't post this CRAP as to what it will cost to make it NEW. If you choose to make it new TIM won't be doing the work so you can forget the $300 shaft from him and get Dennis Searing to do the work at your quoted prices! Ron

I personally don't think usage marks like the ones on this cue affect it as much since it kind of adds character to a cue like this one - it's a player.

The shaft is I think what people are basing the devaluing of your cue; if it doesn't roll straight or has a lift, not to mention the gouge in the shaft which looks pretty decent, is why you're getting the offers you're getting. Yes, it might be worth $550-$600 in awesome condition, but if the shaft on yours isn't usable, then people are going to offer only what the butt alone is worth, which is fair. That being said, I have no doubt that the cue plays solid. As soon as you add more detail about the slight defects of the cue, I'd like to make an offer :)

I wasn't knocking the seller or his cue, just calling it like I saw it. Of course it's a Scruggs cue and that in itself makes it valuable. But think of it this way, could you expect to get top dollar for a Porsche that needed some body work and had a slight miss in the motor?

On the other hand, I understand he can't just give it away, either.

Just sayin'.

I agree but in the pm I offered him a price, he did not come back with another price, he just said no thanks, Ill take more offers. That is why I just let everyone know he wouldn't take 400. at least get a price range started. and the second part was to help him with what my opinion was on the price range. If new this cue is worth WAY more than 600 I have a hoppe ring and with rings at the joint TS sneaky. Are you telling me it is worth 1000? Not trying to offend someone I am just trying to see if his cues are going up every week. thanks

Scruggs condition

Took the cue out of the case tonight and looked at it closely and had the united billiards congress there along with the mecham auto auction guy and Joe Torre former Yankees Mgr. there for validation.

1. The cue shaft has the gouge
2. There is 1 thickness of a credit lift in the middle of the shaft. (slid 1 card under wouldn't accept a second card)
3. The butt is dead nuts straight.
4. There are only a few clearcoat marks on this cue.
5. I think I may have been more critical of my own cue then you all, and didn't give it enough credit.
6. The cue is actually a damn nice cue.
7. I love the way an old TS sneaky makes some people act.
8. Put your $450 up, and I will play anybody a race to 10 for the cue on table 5 at Bobby D'S Billiards.

scruggs SP

I am not knocking Scruggs SPs as I like them and own several of them.
Did you know that the early Scruggs Sp cues are converted Valley house cues?
There seems to be a lot of interest in this cue. I wish someone would buy it and quit bumping my adds down the page with all the quabble. The last thread on page one said it SOLD. Let it go.

If you want a New one find a nice Valley Cue. Send it to Bob Fry for Conversion and you will have a brand new early Scruggs SP without the TS stamp. Or just buy a Fry SP cue and play with it or stash it. They are just as good or better. They have an F stamped on them. The TS stamp dosn't make the cue play any better.

However, the market just doesn't work that way. Scruggs used a different taper in his sneakies. The joint diameter on most of these conversions runs around 0.825-0.828". Something about the way they are tapered just makes them play great...of course, most of it is in the Scruggs shaft. However, many really good players have come to the same conclusion...they are great players.

The demand and relative scarcity of the cues cause the price to be higher. Scruggs did not build any sneakies after the early 90s. Yes, he referred anyone wanting a sneaky to Bob Frey, and Frey builds a great sneaky, but even those are not quite the same.

I think you were overly critical in the description of your cue...nothing sounds that far out to me. I don't see why you could not get very close to what you are asking.

I think this is a great thread in that it points to one thing. If the OP had simply placed an asking price on the cue, it would probably have been gone in less than an hour. Asking for offers opened a whole new can of worms up.

JMHO,
Joe

Leon Sly has Timmy's shaft machine. It has Tim's custom taper programed in it. Also Tim's sneaky pete butt and shaft tapers. Jeff made the majority of TS sneakys until he decided to stop. Then Tim gave all the house cues except one to Bob Frey. John Majors got that one to make himself a sneaky which never left the shop until Tim closed shop. Bill Mc Daniels did not make a lot of them.
