Thoughts?

I can scuff, pick, rough ect and still after a short time its as though I'm chalking a cue ball.It just won't hold.

What am I missing?

The tip may have gotten wet.

Is that a possibility?

If it got wet or even damp, putting chalk on it may become futile.

I hope you are using Master chalk....... I have had this problem with some of the lesser brands of chalk. IMHO nothing that I have ever tried breaks up as well as Master.

I've had this happen before with Le Pro tips. I switched to Triangles amd haven't had a problem. They cover pretty evenly.

I have to put in my $.02 about the LePro tips.

My husband has a LePro tip, I have a Triangle and I've shaped and scuffed both of them. But when I wipe off the tips to clean the shafts, I get probably 4 times the amount of chalk off my Triangle as his LePro...

what tip has your cue got on it?how often are you chalking?remember you are supposed to chalk on every shot, because the chalk is blasted off the tip as soon as it hits the Q-ball

Like the other posters, I'm guessing it's an odd tip issue or damp (or inferior) chalk.

I had a box of inferior chalk once that I bought just for the color. It would practically smear on the tip. It was horrible and I threw it away immediately.

What kind of tip is it? I have had similar results with Moori Mediums.

Uhh..letting us know type and age of tip??

I can't believe it was post 8 before you were asked.

if it's a layered tip you might just be on the glue portion. try using some sand paper. or it could be cheap chalk or a bad tip. try changing the chalk first if that doesn't work then change the tip

On my sneaky that I use in my bar league I have a Talisman medium. The tip is about half way down now and the dome has been shaped both on a lathe with a razor and by hand with sandpaper numerous times. I'm having a problem of frequently miscueing when using maximum draw or extreme english. I've started to dress my tip before each time I play and being very careful to chalk after each shot. Any more miscues and I'll swap out the tip for a Moori Soft/slow.

Another issue that crossed my mind is that it seems that I don't have a problem with it at the pool room. This isn't the cue that I normally play with on 9 ft tables but I do use it when I ride my motorcycle to the room. I'm wondering if the balls at the bar aren't just filthy with food grease and powder ? I would bet my life that they have never been cleaned. Food for thought...Tom

I'm really starting to wonder at this. When I was playing with Moori mediums on two different cues, I never had a problem with either cue. Unfortunately, I don't have either one at present and don't know what tips are on my Dishaw. They were installed for me as Mooris, but are one piece tips instead of layered. Long story.

softer

Softer tips will hold chalk better. Also, its important to know that layered tips will not have the "hairs" on them after scuffing like a triagle etc. will. That dosent mean its not holding chalk well. Bottom line is this, if your tip is old-change it, if you are using a hard or med to hard tip consider switching (insert Sniper endorsement here) to a softer tip. Hope this helps

Thanks for the replies guys, been so busy I dam near forgot I asked.

I made a change two "one piece tips" a while back after much discussion here on the boards.I figured I had been using laminated for so long I'd give it a shot.

I had no problems for a long while, then it just started happening.Bald as hell, almost shiny.

One is a lepro and one is a triagle (I think, its been months) and both are medium. Same problem with each fwiw, but one is slightly worse.

I do have the two morris Mike G sent me and just need to get em installed, which I will do soon so its not a huge problem...I was just wondering what,if anything, could I do about it.

Masters chalks fwiw....happens with both my batch at home and the masters at the ph.Probably not the problem.

Thanks again guys.

sounds like it might just be bad tips, triangle and lepros are (i believe) very inconsitent from tip 2 tip, but when you find a good triangle tip theyre awesome.

btw there are only hard triangle tips.

hope this helps.
