agreed an awesome install. Only modification i would make is to angle the tip inward to allow some room for mushrooming!

Not bad till he used the towel. You "NEVER" go near a spinning lathe with a towel. At the very least it may overlap and snap off the end of the shaft, at the worst, pull a finger out of joint or pull you hand into a spinning chuck causing serious injury. This is not nit picking, this is a serious violation of safe lathe operation.

Yea.... it made me cringe when I saw that.... I always use a paper towel because they rip apart if they get caught and pulled into the chuck.

That's the most precise tip installation I've seen to date. Very cool link - thanks. By the way, what was that devise he used to hold the tip as he prepared to glue it to the ferrule? Haven't seen that before. I agree on the towel. Bad form old chap.

That looked like a "tip-alizer" from unique, slightly modified to chuck up in his tailstock

I think the tip holder could be made from schedule 80 PVC.

When I was shown to polish on a spindle, they cut the rags to little rectangle swabs. The same with the polishing paper. It was a No No to use a strip of emery tape / polish paper and partially wrap over the spinning part.

I use thread tape to keep the glue off the ferrule.No residue to clean off either.
 
What did he use to burnish? Is it just leather conditioner? I've never seen a lepro so shiny in my life.

I was wondering the same thing. He treated the side first with a leather dye (perhaps Porper Tip Touch) and then a white cream to get that high gloss. Any ideas what the two treatments he used were?

At about 5:15 the video shows the three bottles and I would be willing to bet they are available at Hobby Lobby or other crafts stores;).

Trade secrets are being protected by turning the lables away:(.
