tips on dealing with haters?

To me, the following will give you an idea of your rank:

Equipment
Table = 9'
Corner pockets = 4.25" to 4.5"
Rack = magic rack

Rules
Ball in hand after break
No pattern racking
Balls on break stay down
Slop does not count and is loss of game
Scratch is loss of game, even on break
Race should be to 7 or more
Foul on object ball is loss of game
Shots should be shot in timely manner......~45 seconds or so.
9 doesn't count on break or on ball in hand shot

Ghost race to 7

C- player 2 ghost 7
C player 4 ghost 7
C+ player 6 ghost 7
B- player 7 ghost 6
B player 7 ghost 4
B+ player 7 ghost 2
A- player 7 ghost 1
A and above 7 ghost 0

Again, that is just my opinion of how different levels of players should stack up against the ghost.

Wow. Under your conditions, I probably average about 7-5 win vs the ghost. I can't wait to let the tourney directors around here know that they have me rated about 4 ranks too high!

No good. If you trully understand barbox 8 ball you can easily bit most center ball players with good stroke and no understanding of strategy and patterns. Playing 9-ball against the ghost is a totally different beast. You don't have to let your stroke out on a barbox playing 8 ball. Rotation on 9' is a completely different game. 8-ball on 7' is my specialty. Besides this is off-topic, I was just asking if there was a magic trick to deal with haters. Everything you guys mentioned I've already tried. Not all dislike me there. Many love me there but about 5-7 people straight up hate me, I'm not exaggerating.

On a 7' table, I probably average beating the ghost maybe 7-4, maybe more on a sloppy valley. I also play a bit stronger 8 ball on the bar table. Practicing at the BCA on a 7' Diamond I broke 10 racks on 2 different sessions. I broke and ran 5, then 6. That is of course pristine optimal conditions with a magic rack. On a sloppy valley that doesn't rack so perfect, I might break and run 3/10 8 ball

I'm considered a decent A player in my area, which I'd say is well below "semi-pro".

Where do you think you come out doing this? (Hint...it takes about 15 minutes to find out)

If I'm not playing, haters want nothing to do with me. They won't talk to me. If I'm playing them some won't speak to me, some will say a word or two if they have to. They might say something rude or they'll flip me off. Some talk down to me. If anybody ever gets close to beating me there are like 3 haters turn up and start coaching him or her and provide emotional support. Here's the thing, a few players who are ok shooters are very attractive young women so some regulars who are normally cool with me are not when these girls are around because they are hoping to hook up with them. Also every single guy there kisses these girls's asses I'm the only one who doesnt. I'm there to play pool I treat everyone the same. I'm friendly but I don't kiss ass. No special treatment. Get what I'm saying? To be honest these girls feel like it's their place and I feel like it's my place. Sounds silly but it is what it is. I have my clique they have their clique.

I'll give you an example. One new hater didnt understand call pocket rules. We already disliked each other at that point. She makes her ball off my ball and sits down. I say it's your shot. She says she didnt call it off my ball. I politely explain ball in hand rules are call pocket. She goes, "you mean I can touch your balls?" ( she doesnt realize what she's saying ). I smile but don't respond. She goes "can I touch your balls?!". I say you can't touch my balls but you can touch those balls. She goes "that's disgusting no woman ever wants to hear that from you". ( not sure if it's relevant but this particular hater is extremely unattractive no guy in there would ever date her ). She then goes behind my back and tells everyone I told her she can't touch my balls. She told like 20 people. That's the type of stuff I'm dealing with there. So I don't talk to them there, just come to shoot and hang with buds I trust.

There is a bar near me with a bunch of 8' Diamonds. It comes up often that I am just hitting balls by myself on a busy night. People come up and ask me to play all the time. Typically, it is an unmitigated slaughter lol. However, they keep playing, other people jump in, etc. They *want* to play against me. Of course I try to shoot my normal game, but I'm usually having a couple beers, shooting the breeze, and not really caring if I win or lose. Often they buy me a drink, but I make sure to return the favor and offer if they don't. Maybe just try being nice to people, friendly, and see if that makes a difference. Maybe try giving your spot up at the table sometimes...make a friend, turn the tide. Who knows?

Not off topic at all. You started off with how strong you are so I was curious.

I have put 4 to 6 packs together on 9' diamond and can beat the living chit out of the ghost with ball in hand but........i have never play anywhere near semi-pro speed.

Then you said you got excited after a 2 pack.

I was just curious and gave you an idea of how some here would go by for skill level.

As for the haters part. Imagine this:

A well known very strong shortstop walks into a bar night after night and dominates the place for the fun of it. Well, the average league player will slobber at the mouth to play/learn from them. I just don't see the majority of league players hating on a very strong player that is willing to "show what he knows" for free.

On the other hand, if your playing a bunch of people that don't care about pool well, then yeah, they are gonna be pissed since they are (as most have pointed out) to drink and socialize "while" hitting balls around.

I'm done in this thread.

Good luck.

I like to play bar rules.

Did I tell you I played an event in the woods while back where it was a automatic loss of game to play safe? I tried to tell the TD it would bite one of them in the booty......

Lol in the finals homie had no shot except to break me out.....lol those guys couldn’t spell two way if I spotted them all the consonants and spotted them the T

Enough already

There is no way this is not just a Bull S--- thread. to jerk our chains. Anyone
that can play at all and is in their 30's doesn't talk like this. Even the cue buyer
and seller (Juston or whatever) sounded more real than this. At first I think
well. just a guy that is very young, and thinks he is a semi-pro or something.
But it goes on and on and it starts to look more and more like he is just jacking
everyone around. I wonder if anyone on here knows this guy.

Yes Jack, he is jacking everyone, I believe I know his last name, first the story of his family tree.

Many people are at a loss for a response when someone says, "You don't know Jack Schitt." Now you can intellectually handle the situation.
Jack is the only son of Awe Schitt and O. Schitt. Awe Schitt, the fertilizer magnate, married O. Schitt, a partner of Kneedeep &. Schitt Inc. In turn, Jack Schitt married Noe Schitt, and the deeply religious couple produced 6 children: Holie Schitt, Fulla Schitt, Giva Schitt, Bull Schitt, and the twins: Deep Schitt and Dip Schitt.
Against her parents' objections, Deep Schitt married Dumb Schitt, a high school drop out. After being married 15 years, Jack and Noe Schitt divorced.
Noe Schitt later married Mr. Sherlock, and because her kids were living with them she wanted to keep her previous name. She was known as Noe Schitt-Sherlock.
Dip Schitt married Loda Schitt and they produced a nervous son, Chicken Schitt. Fulla Schitt and Giva Schitt were inseparable throughout childhood and subsequently married the Happens brothers in a dual ceremony.
The wedding announcement in the newspaper announced the Schitt-Happens wedding.
The Schitt-Happens children were Dawg, Byrd, and Hoarse. Bull Schitt, the prodigal son, left home to tour the world. He recently returned from Italy with his new bride, Piza Schitt.
So now if someone says, "You don't know Jack Schitt", you can correct them. Not only do you know Jack, you know his whole family!

Make up your mind. This is what you said in your INITIAL post when you started the thread:

"My speed: semi-pro on a good day if I get a lucky roll here and there."

You sound like maybe you are a C-player, at most, playing in a joint full of drunken bangers and women.

I would love running into you in a bar game.

I bet you could beat him with one eye closed!

:)

Not their fault I didnt explain it right. It's not like I'm destroying beginners who are there to casually play with their dates. I'm beating people who are there to beat me and it's making me a better player just wish they didnt take it so personally. Maybe it's the booze that's bringing the worst out of these haters who knows.

Well.. you saying you are a "semi pro" made me a bit curious.. I remember I used to say the same thing when I was around 21-22, and I was deluding myself.

For clarification... In fairly recent regional 8-ball events in AA/AAA divisions, I have multiple alternate break matches where I broke and ran 4 out of my 5 breaks. And a few of those went hill-hill.Which meant that my opponents were good amateurs as well, and capable of running 3 or 4 out of 5 themselves. And I think is assuming we are all in dead stroke and warmed up from playing a few matches.

SO, to analyze it within terms of barbox 8 ball, which is what I would assume you are playing... A "pro" would be expected to run 8 or 9 out of 10 racks. This performance level is pretty much born out by observing the last couple of rounds of the U.S. bar table 8 ball championships.. So, a "semi-pro" would maybe be expected to perform slightly below this.. Maybe at an average of 7 or 8 out of 10 racks run.

In short, I don't think you realize that your level, while "semi" dominant over the local bar players you play against, is not as high as you think. You need to get yourself over to the biggest pool hall you can find, and get your head beat in a few times so you can realize that you are not helping your game at all by continuing to play the people you are playing.

People know who is hogging the only table in the house. One of these days you will have the table all to yourself- people will stall and stall and stall, doing whatever it takes to frustrate you as much as you frustrate them.

Bar tables are cheap, don't take up much room - buy one and stay at home and play the ghost, no one will hate you for that.

Or maybe you are just another banger who ran the table once, here trolling to convince everyone you are a great 'near pro' bar table player who never loses.

I'm sure there are a few here that will give you a chance to prove your skill, for cash.

Really, what's your motivation for continuing to play at a one-table location where no one except you can run more than three balls?

Now that I think of it, I don't think I have ever heard of a definition of a "semi-pro" pool player and I've been in/around the game a LONG time now. There are amateurs and professionals but I've never heard of anything else.

Good one, PT!!!

Just curious how you guys deal with this.

My speed: semi-pro on a good day if I get a lucky roll here and there. Won lots of tiny tourneys.. No issues at tourneys but they take too long so stopped doing them.

Mostly play at this pool bar, mostly bar and league players. All ages, sexes, etc. Mostly hipsters, millennials and radical feminists. One barbox, winner gets to keep the table. Bca rules. Always a really long line to play but everyone waits and everyone wants to run the table.

There have been many nights where I run the table from opening to closing. If I lose, people literally celebrate and make a scene. ( A lot of railbirds at this bar ). I'm not talking about action we play for nothing.

I try to shake everyone's hand, no ego, I smile after each game, basically I try to be as cool as possible with everyone. Some are really respectful, lots of compliments. But. Some regulars straight up hate me. Mostly girls who play center ball and shoot at everything. People who barely know me or don't know me at all would come up to me and say really disturbing disrespectful things. Many regulars don't shake my hand after. Usually female players but men too. These are people who waited an hour and a half to play, took 1 shot and got off the table. Then waited another hour to play and I broke and ran out on them. ( it's always a race to 1 winner breaks ). I've had people flip me off, refuse to shake my hand etc. I've seen it all. The worst is when they don't say much but I can feel the hate. It's definitely real, not in my head. I used to care to figure out why they hate me but try not to even think about it.

Is this normal and is there anything I can do to convert haters into regular people?

Or do I just ignore this? I tried everything. I used to give up the table to the biggest haters but that didn't solve anything. Tried kissing their ass, that didn't work either. Tried talking it out, that didn't work either. I refuse to lose on purpose to make someone feel great. Any tips? People generally like me outside of the pool scene. Also some of the regulars who are really cool with me are turning on me because a lot of haters talk a lot of trash behind my back, who knows what rumors they are spreading... Fyi I have a big heart and those in my life who know me well love me.
You run the table from opening till closing and you complain the tourneys last too long? Something don't sound right here!
