Great going, Smokey, keep it up! I've tried to PayPal several times but, apparently, since I removed my bank account from my paypal account (and added a creditcard) I can't just send money, so...I will send you a check tomorrow. Thanks for doing this in these hard times.
:p

sorry but it maybe was my fault, cause...
i think if you have more than 6 or some # of money coming into your paypal account in a month [or something] you have to upgrade to what they call a "premier" account.

i just did whatever they asked me to do so now maybe you can send to me by paypal. if you don't mind, please try again.

sorry for any inconvenience.

best,
smokey

Donation Needed For Boys and Girls Clubs

Smokey,

I just made my donation for your very worthwhile effort in support of boys and girls clubs. I made the payment to your paypal account, smokeyblack@cox.net .

Suggestion: Keep your paypal account visible on a regular basis here so potential donors don`t have to go on a long search to find out where to commit funds.

Have a great holiday season, and my deepest thanks to you for what you are doing.

Take care,

Will Prout :) :)  :)

Idea,

Have an advertisement on AZ, Shooterville and any other site willing to help. The link when clicked would go to the site where people can see all the information about the fund, type their donation in the box and click donate.

thanks to everybody...

just wanted to let everybody know that we are doing a great job! Thanks!

i will post updated info later today.

What a great idea...you can count this Virginia Boy in....I will be sending a donation via paypay before the weekend ends. You sir have inspired me to do more than think of good things to do. I am going to a local boys and girls club and see about volunteering some of my time to teaching the fundamentals of the game and helping keeping the sport alive. I will post what happens when I call or go by my local boys club. I tried the link to find a local boys club in this thread but it didn?t work. Oh well ...good old yellow pages. WONDERFUL IDEA smokey

please note:

i just realized some of you gave me greenies and stated you would donate. i am sorry i may have missed many of you - i got a lot of greenies; so...

this is not for greenies so please... do not do that.

if you want to help "our" kids, GREAT. just let's do what we can. please, no more greenies for me - let this be just greenies for "our kids"!

i story i saved on my dying computer that i think i found on Az i want to share if you don't mind - here it is; it called:

-------------------------------------------------

MAYONNAISE JAR and 2 CUPS OF COFFEE

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full.

They agreed that it was. The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous "yes."

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

"Now," said the professor, as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things; God, family, children, health, friends, and favorite passions -- things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter, like your job, house, and car. The sand is everything else -- the small stuff.

"If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. So ... Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.

Play With your children.
Take time to get medical checkups.
Take your partner out to dinner.
Play another 18.

There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first -- the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented. The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend."

Always remember to forget the troubles that pass your way, BUT never forget to remember the blessings that come each day.

all the best,
smokey

Yes I got this money back and what I have done is contact a local Boys and Girls club in Hamilton Ontario. They told me that their pool tables are in desperate need of some fixing up! I told them my friend and I would help them out.

It's nice to know people and it just so happens that I'm best friends with Don Broos of db Cues who also does table installs and maintenance.

Together we are paying them a visit in the next coulple of days to asses what we can do to help. Once we know what's needed we will get it together and donate the equipment and the time.

I will also talk to the Boys and Girls club staff about me bringing one of our top players in to have a fun day with the kids on their newly fixed up pool tables.

I have to tell you the person I contacted at the club was so greatful just to get a call offering to help and is very excited about the idea. It felt really good to know how much a little effort and money from me could mean to them.

Now Smokey mentioned I could head up a fund for the Canadian interests but I would rather challenge those that would be donating here in Cananda to get out in there community and see where they can help.

I may start up a Canadian fund down the road.

Like me I'm sure many of you can get equipment to help them much cheaper than if they pay MSRP so for me to just give the clubs some money is not enough, with my contacts I can stretch $100 a lot further than they are able to.

Anyway, I'm happy for this thread it has really raised awareness of the Boys and Girls clubs. Maybe becuase of our help the kids will play more and one day a club we helped will produce a Johnny Archers or Shane Van Boening.

Thanks again Smokey and everyone involved through helping with or donating to the fund!

I'm sure the Boys and Girls clubs across America would appreciate a donation. I give a small amount each year to the local club so they can replace a broken stick or missing balls. They can use new tips and chalk as well.

A lot of players learned to play pool at the Boys Club. I did a very long time ago - in the same B&G Club that Curt Shilling (the Boston pitcher who pitched for the AZ Diamondbacks in the 2001 World Series against NY) hung out in So I have put my cuemaking to use by fixing sticks, putting on tips etc for the B&G Club. So if you can give money that is fine but if you have some old cues in decent shape maybe they need a new home:smile:

Can someone help me out here and give me some instruction. Thank you!
