I still haven't heard anything back from the local Minnesota B&G club chapters. Kind of surprising...

I'd say call them again. B&G clubs are run by a big company and so all the failings of dealing with a big company are often there. I don't know who you got in contact with, but the donation number for the Twin Cities B&Gs clubs is 612-435-1900.

Another way is to choose one club and just call them up specifically and make sure you talk with the unit director if you can. Otherwise, just stop by. The locations around MSP are:

thanks. I had sent an email to the local org chapter (well online contact form)

i'll try giving them a call

update - i have a voicemail in with the local VP for Minneapolis area clubs. I'll try and set up a meeting to see what they need.

This is what I did, and got to see the facility and the table they had and the cues. The director of the club showed me around and gave me all the information I needed to send them cues and chalk. I had the seller ship them directly to the club.

It's a little more time consuming from your end, but definitely the most effective and easiest way to just go to one of the clubs. Especially if you buy the stuff yourself and have it shipped directly to them, that way you ensure that they're getting exactly what you've determined they should get.

The people running the clubs are good people, but they're not always going to understand exactly what's needed or remember specifically what you said to order if you just cut them a check and tell them what to buy. Plus there's a million more loops for them to jump through being handed money, big company and all.

forgive me, but...

i do not want to burden all of you with bumps and requests for your participation in this Az'ers Xmas Fund.

it was started only as a gesture for all of us to 'enjoy' the beauty in 'giving' and at the same time 'sharing the beauty of our sport' with 'our children', and in the case of the Boys/Girls Clubs across America - with some, in many cases, less fortunate children.

we Az'ers can make a DIFFERENCE!

we are not asking for much...

even $1 or $2 can help.

i hope 'ALL' of You can spare just a little to make some of 'our children' enjoy life a little more.

but in the end, it is ultimately up to YOU.

all the best,
smokey

On the contrary - this needs to stay at the top.
We either make it happen or wonder what happened.

Suggest you pick a cutoff date for donations/contributions and then summarize what's in the pot.

hi all, this is the end of this Az'ers Xmas Fund...

just wanted to advise that i will be returning all the money i received.

it is sad, but true, that not many Az'ers were interested in this fund. so be it.

i am not familiar with paypal, so if any of you receive less than what you gave due to paypal costs, please advise and i will refund the difference to you.

all the best,
smokey

fyi...

i have returned most of the money i have received.

i must add to my paypal accout to cover 2 additional donors.

plus, i must return cash and a check, which i promise i will do.

and i just want to say a few words more...

thank you to all of you who gave and offered to give. to me is was great to see your kindness.

i am sorry it did not work our better, but life is what we make it.

Sorry to hear this I was pulling for it. Maybe another time you can make it happen..The game needs a hero, and without a junior program it will never be anymore than it is..

Have yourself a Merry Christmas...

Sometimes it doesn't look like it worked on the surface, but your kind heart had a profound effect on a lot of people. The day I read this thread it called me to action. To those who gave, I know you don't want to spend that money on anything else, just going to have to do the leg work as well. Merry Christmas Smokey

Smokey,
Please do not be discouraged at the results. I don't want my money back, use it to pay for a couple of hours of some kid's pooltime. I would guess that less than 5% of the daily visitors to AZB participated and that's about the usual figure here for ideas such as this.

It's surprising at how few posters are the backbone of this site. I was trying to find a gentle way of preparing you for these results when I wrote my first reply back on page 1:
"Smokey,
It's a great idea, but you have to get away from that 17,456 Members figure.
Here is page 1 of the Member's list and if you click on each subsequent page, you will see the same thing http://forums.azbilliards.com/memberlist.php

A more realistic figure might be around 2,000 'contributing' members, which is still a respectable number of cash donations... imo

Doug
(look at post counts since joining and last date visiting this site)"

Keep plugging away and having good thoughts Miles, you're #1 OK in my book.

Doug

Smokey, you're dream lives on

We have two weeks to make Christmas a little brighter for the boys and girls this coming year. Here is what we can do, and thanks to Smokey's original idea, there are already many ready to participate. Here is a link to an e-bay auction for 4 Valley bar cues with FREE shipping. When you go to your paypal account to accept the money Smokey has returned, please consider taking a few moments to send some cues. I will send a 6 pack of Master blue chalk to every Boy's and Girl's club that you find in your heart to send the cues. I will also include a Christmas card from AZ.

Here is a link to find the address to send the cues:

http://www.bgca.org/clubs/

Here is the E-bay link:

http://cgi.ebay.com/4-VALLEY-HOUSE-...3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66:2|65:3|39:1|240:1318

PM me with the address of the club you choose, and I will send the chalk and card.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!

LOL :)
I just remembered that I didn't include my 'real name' or return address on the cash that I mailed in, so you'll play hell trying to return it.
Give it to some kids....... let them eat cake. :)

*MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND YOURS, SMOKEY !!!!!!
