To the AZBilliards Community

Yep, BBS was the predecessor.. single dialup lines to boards hosted through apps like Telemate and RA. Mostly we were socially inept geeks who just shared porn and pirated software, it's what the whole thing was built on lol. It's been a long time yet the caliber of people has mostly stayed the same, except in rare places like this one.. so hard to find such a diverse group of fine people, in a self-policing structure that actually works..

I'm constantly amazed to see the thought and selflessness people here take the time to put into their posts for mostly strangers looking for help, it's awesome.
 
Nice thread. The high quality of the AZB experience comes down to two words:

MUTUAL RESPECT

With few exceptions, the members of AZB exhibit this quality in dealing with each other.
 
Yep!!

It renewed my passion for the pool enthusiast that I am. The whole shabang is here!! And I thank you for that, all the AZBr's. :D :D

Very well said, Bastian. In the short time I've been a member I've learned some great things about pool & met some very good people. This place has helped me get back into the game I love. So I say thanks to all here as well.

Let me put my 2cents in here...doesn't seem to buy table time anymore, may as well spend it here...

I'm an old banger from Seattle and have played and loved the game for the last 20+ years. Never got real good at it unless I went to a smaller town, which I did, 7000 miles away. Now i'm in a town of 70,000 people, 4 bar boxes and 6 - 9footers(that's in the whole town) and they all look like driving ranges. I have to travel 70+ miles by train to find a real table, someone who owns their own cue and someone else who doesn't think you get 2 free shots when your opponent makes a foul. When I get there, then I feel at home again...losing 3 out of 4 games and learning something new. :o

I started this venture of making pocket chalkers and other leather goods for the European billiards market because I still have the good ol' capitalist mentality and 'hate' jobs. Although it's been a great venture, it's difficult finding anyone who can appreciate the sport where I'm at and then when it comes to talking with them about it, heck, no one speaks English. (I'm in Poland if you're unware)

I found AZB about 3 months ago when looking to market the new product line and have learned so much from just reading the forums. I shoot with an old Duffrin and as for the 'tip', heck, it's a medium harndess and that's about all I know. Just as an example, I didn't realize there were so many different choices and that's just about tips. Not to mention the other things such as different shafts and joints and woods and ....I've just basically been an banger wanting to get better but never really grabbed the sport by the horns...was always working to hard to take time to learn "about" the game.

I'm not much of a poster because I feel like I don't know all that much about the sport and on the national level I'm pretty much ignorant. I'm not sure sometimes if my 2cents is worth it or would make sense.

I just want to say thanks for a new place to get in some good reading(In English :) ) and a good education. I've sold some products to many of the members here and they've all been great to deal with.

Thank You AZB and this great community for making me feel a little closer to home. Thanks for being there...and here...

I'll definitely second that Doug, the wealth of information available here is incredible. There is only so much you can advance on your own, without technical details that help explain why things work the way they do.

Within a week of starting to read this board, I felt like I knew 10 times as much as I was putting into practice. It will take me years to put the knowledge to good use in actual modifications to my execution. Folks here are so quick to share their experience and acquired knowledge, it's an amazing asset to anyone learning this game.

Lol! Good point.. Though I'm in no position to really discern between 'experience' and 'wisdom' with this information heh.. I wouldn't know the difference. Give me a year to digest all of it and I'll be better suited to thank individuals appropriately. I just think it's great when you all share so much knowledge, it doesn't really matter if it's good info or not.. part of learning is knowing how to rid of the bad stuff you absorb while capitalizing on the good!

While the people who use this board as readers and writers make it interesting and informative---the people who created and now moderate AzB have my utmost respect. THANKS TO ALL!!!
 
Ya know, I wish I could tell you... as I mentioned I have to travel quite a ways (to Poznan actually) to get a good game. I can tell you that the Poles do like their Vodka and Tyskie (6.0% beer in 700ml bottles, about 22oz.) and their shooting seems to improve the more they drink. (sort of like my ability to speak Polish). The inability to speak polish limits me on a lot as you can imagine.

I have heard that Poznan is home to the world champion 'junior' player although world champion to what I don't know. I can tell you that some of the young guys around here, though they can barely reach the table, are just incredible.

Not that Poznan is a small town, it's not, I'm sure that if you go off to the bigger cities such as Krakow or Warsaw there'll be better players which I plan to do some time this summer, given the opportunity.

I just ran across this video of supposedly a 6 time winner of the snooker table trickshot competition, and he's a Pole... Who knows...
