Found this old pic I took of Tony Watson at the Willard's International at the Pheasant Run Resort near Chicago in 1992. I think he is 14 in the pic. Looks like maybe Mike Gullassy in the background.

He was still playing with his "Learner's Permit" back then. Who knew what a player he would turn out to be? I sure didn't. He was just another kid who liked to hang out with the big boys.

Jay I think he had already graduated with his PhD. He had a wad of money as thick as two ham sandwiches, a girlfriend over 18, an entourage, and was woofing to gamble with everyone. I saw him beat Dennis Hatch getting the call 8 or last 2. I forget which one. He was running out on those gaff tight world of leisure tables.

I edited your photo a bit, I added some color and touched it up a bit. (hope you dont mind) Great photo btw.

no, not at all. I shot that with a disposable camera jobbie. Then the camera sat at my house for a year before I developed it. Im actually lucky that it developed at all.

He would be 17 in that pic unless it's from earlier than 92. Me and him are the same age. He said yesterday that once he gets done with his responsibilities that he's going back to pool full force so get ready.

I've been meaning to ask for a while now (WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO TONY WATSON) I miss him a Q-Masters during US Open week..... He plays like Godzilla & bets like King Kong.

17?! Doesn't look a day over 12, IMO.

Not sure about him being at the Open (I doubt it), but he did say that he wouldn't be at the DCC. He has some things to take care of and when he does he seems dead set on going full force back into pool.

Yeah, he was 17 at that time.
Jim Mataya had money on Tony in that match and so did I.
I stopped betting when Tony made the 8 on the break and scratched.....
...the other side insisted that it stay down.....
..to me, spot balls should be treated like the 9, unless otherwise stipulated.

A few years ago Tony played a guy at the SBE named Pat Mcnally 10 ahead for 20K, Pat at the time was awsome... just beat Ronnie Alcano 9 to 0 in a Joss final, I told Tony not to play him "he was too good". Tony beat him 10 ahead in an hour and a half. Never saw Mcnally again.... I think he quit pool alltogether.

I've always played that if the player getting the spot makes his ball and fouls, it stays down. If the player giving the spot makes the opponents money ball, it spots (for obvious reasons)....But I don't know anything.

I wish i were there,i would of emptied my pockets on tony,Mcnally is an awesom player no doubt,(scranton,pa. rempe protege)but when betting that kind of money,Watson was a solid favorite,Mcnally can and has beaten some great players in tournaments, but when the money goes up,Pat is not the same kind of player!

I have played that way 'cause that's how the game was made.

But if it wasn't stipulated, then to me a money ball is a money ball....
..same as the 9-ball.,,,and I was usually giving the weight.

...later in life, I've ran a few handicap tournaments and all money balls
are treated the same way.

In that match with Tony, he and many people there assumed what I did.

Tony also said after he gets everything taking care of that Tommy an Mike was going too buy him a custom Josey too help get started. I hope he gets back on the right track

Sometime in the early nineties, I saw him (pretty sure it was him) in a pool hall in Beaumont, TX, with Jeremy Jones and his brother. Of course they were all pretty young then and I didn't see any of them play. I heard a few things about him later. Why did he quit playing?
