VIProfessor said:Definitely a 'D' shot--'D'signed to lose. If your opponet is any good you will definitely be kicking in your next inning at the table--probably with the cueball in the vicinity of the two and the one ball on the head rail around where the three is now.
I assume you used a hair of left to try to get the cueball uptable? If so, that's what made the shot more difficult. It's also amazing how much more swerve you might seem to get when shooting with english off the rail.DrCue'sProtege said:ok, i broke them earlier this morning, and ended up with this spread. i decided to try and hit the cue ball with some high left english and take the path as shown. the cue ball was on the rail, which made things a whole lot tougher.
it might be hard to see, but the shot on the 1-Ball was very thin. not sure if the lines are correct, but i didnt get a good hit on the cue ball, and completely missed the 1-Ball.
anyway, what would you posters have done? was this just way too tough of a shot? should i have looked for a safety option?

So, either aim thicker, or don't go for such close position. Longer position is probably the best you should hope for. That is, cinch the one, and be happy you can see some paint on the 2-ball.

Actually just watched a semi-pro match (on the level of Scott Frost) and they were able to use that type of shot, and used it quite effectively.Hierovision said:

CreeDo said:How I'd play it:
1. Try to hit the 1 as fat as possible while still making it, meaning try to bobble it into the pocket as shown.
2. Jack up a little (not enough to be doing masse) and use a tip of left, so that the cueball curves/swerves a bit, but not so much that it's completely unpredictable. I tried to draw the curve here. It's really subtle but you're actually changing the angle that the CB is approaching the OB... that can really help how far down off the rail it comes.
3. Pick a speed that is slow enough for the english to take pretty well on the first rail, but hard enough to get it to travel two rails and out. Not sure without actually shooting it if that's possible, you might be in a catch-22 where the speed needed to make it go back and forth keeps the sidespin from really taking.

Take it with a grain of salt. This is how I'd try to do it. All bets are off on whether or not I'd succeedI just see this as the only possible way to shoot, which means you handled it correctly I guess... just missed the ball. That's ok, it's very missable, ignore that C-and-D-players comment. Note that by trying to hit the fat side of the pocket you probably have a safer result if it all goes wrong and you undercut the ball.
