Top 10 players where you live.

I would add Jorge Rodriguez, Rob Pole, Joey Kong, Bobby Blackmore. And maybe Jude Rosenstock, Shorty, John Alicia somewhere near that too.

Shorty, as in Tom D'Alfonso? He's from just north of New Haven, CT.

CT has a few strong players...haven't lived there for 11 years, so I really don't want to try to guess what the pecking order is now. I know when I left there were plenty of top notch players there. Shorty, Rob Saez, Larry Lisciotti (RIP), Billy "The Kid" Lanna, Bobby Hunt, Greg Hoagland, Chuck Altomare, Dr. Bob Madenjian, Tom Seminaro Jr...it's been a while though. I know aside from Larry, two others don't even play anymore. (Billy Lanna and Greg Hoagland)

Just up the road there's Providence, RI and some of the players there include Joe Tucker, Ray McNamara, Nelson Oliviera, and the two Tavernier brothers.

Any updates on these two area's would be great. Always nice to hear how things are back at the homestead.

I totally agree, he had scary talent. I have no doubt that had he stuck with pool he would be a top player today...I mean TOP player like Yang, Orcullo, Souquet etc.

Nicky was just improving SO FAST, it was ridiculous. It was humbling, to say the least. In straight pool, he had a high run of like 60, a week later it was 90 and a week after that, it was over 150. I mean, who does that?

Even now, when he makes his rare appearance at the club, you can just tell by his approach he is something special. Like, the way he moves the cueball, even if he hasn't picked up a cue in a year, is still better than me when I'm playing every day.

New York simply hasn't seen anything like that since and there's a chance it will be DECADES before we ever will.

It really was frightening how fast he improved. I remember when he was about 15 or 16 I played him pretty much even in straight pool. Less than a year later he comes up to me and says "let's play straight pool for table time". He drilled me, something like 150-55. He seemed to be getting annoyed thinking I wasn't playing for real, he kept saying "c'mon Bob play for real!" And I'm like "I AM playing for real!"

He's a very rare talent.

Yeah Frankie seems to have a lot of talent but I could never pinpoint exactly why he never rose to Ginky's level. Desire? Discipline?

I really can't say. I don't know Frankie well enough to know why. All I know is, he has all the tools of greatness. Frankie was playing "at that level" quite a bit and there wasn't a player around that took him for granted.

Chris Lynch would be at the higher end of this cusp group. He may miss most people's "top 10" list but would certainly be included in everyone's top 20.
QUOTE]

Are you serious? No offense Chris or Jude but Chris isnt beating Marc. Jorge, Eddie or myself for the money. Chris is in the cusp but not at the top of it.
P.S. Dont forget Sammy Wu!

Id like to see a real list for NYC and not the Amsterdam list.

NYC is such a cliquey billiards town, (has been for the past 20 years), that I seriously doubt you would be able to put a list like that together with any accuracy or without bias towards a certain room or clique. Trust me, I'd love to see it too.

Maybe someone who has gone through there, but not live there or play out of the local rooms has some insight?

okay maybe i need to give bj a bit more credit....i'll put him in 3rd place...most of those players speeds are so close together that its hard to put it in an order from 1-10. hes not gonna beat strickland or bennett though...

by the way james, earl moved back to nc now. his memphis voyage didn't last too long. he lives in fayettville with his brother. although he's on the road right now doing exhbitions with schmidt.

I agree I think he would beat everyone on the list minus Earl and Bennett

This is MY top 10 for New York City.

1. Mika Immonen
2. Tony Robles
3. George SanSouci
4. Danny Barouty
5. Steve Lipsky
6. Frankie Hernandez
7. Zion Zvi
8. Jim Gottier
9. Jonathan Smith
10. I'll leave this one blank since I can think of about 10 players that could arguably fill this spot.

This list is just proof that Jude needs to get out more. There are other pool rooms besides Amsterdam Billiards you know. :D:D

Looks like he is not only good at pool!

What happened to Josh Burbul (sp?); when I lived in MN iin 2003 - 2005, I think he would have been on the list.

I agree with most of you list, by the way, based on my time there. The only two I am not familiar with are Richie Cunningham and Jason Kubiszewski.

So post your own list. You're from New York. If you have a different opinion, please feel free to share it with everyone. I see no need for you to slam me.
