Top 3 Promotable American Pool Players

Another guy with character is Charlie Bryant.

"Hillbilly on the hill"

Who wouldn't love that catch-phrase?

The key word is this thread is marketability.

With the money like it is now on the American tournament scene, the pool world needs a representative with the "All American boy" look and attitude (Mom, apple pie, etc.) to grow into a major sport figure.

Corey, Tony and Rodney fit the bill fairly well in this category. Only then, when major industry sponsors come on line with their money can pool afford to have the likes of Earl's antics.

Earl's a cry baby bum until someone throws millions at the sport, and then and only then, will Earl be considered eccentric.

The best Earl can hope for now for sponsorship is from a company who product line includes strap-on devices or pet accessories. Strap a muzzle on this guy while he's at the table until major sponsorship shows up.

As far as the comparision of Tiger Woods as the clean cut all American, the major TV networks learned early on not to have a microphone anywhere near him if his shot went astray. A lot of people thought that the words F#@*! and SOB were new advanced technical terms in golf.

Three cushion billiards has for decades has been played on a global scale with major tournaments all over the planet. Until a couple of decades ago, pocket billiards was considered an American dynasty. With the influx and domination of the sport by the Asians and Europeans, it is now on the same global scale as billiards.

My advice for any world class pool player who wants to be a contender in the sport is quite simple.

Get a passport. You'll need it!

See, I told you he's an asset for pool! we don't have an endorsers for those things before ! thanks to EARL ! :D

Don't forget the EARL PROOF Helmet Endorsement, for his opponent's protection ! :D

Only 49 more-no problem

thanks for the kind words everybody.im flattered that some people think i would represent the game well or be highly marketable . i do think though ,that just about everyone on the list and a few others could be great reps for the game.again thats a strong list of players and i am humbled to be included. ive got to go now and call about 50 people to vote for me lol.

SHOUTOUTS from SHOOTERS and GARY'S. You seem a rare personality type (class act) for being such a good pool player.

I played you once in Riverside. I had 3 shots in race to 5 games. You convinced me that I needed work on 3railkicks. And yes, the Shooters tournament tables are still unfailrly Ernesto- tight.

We wish you continued good fortune.

I hear you. Alex is a great guy, personally and professionally, but we're talking about American players in this thread, Craig.

If Alex grew up in America and faced the same obstacles that Earl Strickland and other American players before him did, in an era when promoters used pool players like prostitutes, then we might not see the same jolly Alex that we all know and love today.

If you think the robotic, emotionless European players are helping pool, I'd rather have 10 Earl Stricklands than any one of today's European super stars. Pro pool ain't gonna get big, Craig, with the current climate that exists at professional tournaments I have attended in recent times here in the States. It's like walking in a cold morgue, having to endure some of the final matches I've witnessed. It's no wonder pool has one tire in the sand.

I used Alex as an example not because he's American, BUT because you bagged the European/Asian robots (I'm not sure what u meant but would you class Corey as a robot also?). Alex is living proof that you can have personality in spades without crossing the line like Earl does.

Yes personalities help but u don't seem to think there's a line professional players shouldnt cross. Don't you agree that one of the reasons the womens tour has outshone the mens in the states is the much lower risk to sponsors? Would you put your brand at risk by attaching it to a player who might abuse a female ref live on TV, refuse to admit to a foul because the ref didn't see it, or abuse the home town of the sponsors - the very customers they are trying to appeal too lol!

Why would any respectable company take that risk? Yep give me a few rodney's and Alex's over some of the "robots" as you say but I'd rather have 50 "robots" and a million dollar tour any day of the week.

I love Ronnie OSullivan but in recent times he's acted poorly, refusing contracted press interviews and walking out mid match without good reason. No player is bigger than the sport and to their credit fellow players had the balls to come out and criticise him publicly. Why did they do this? because they realise Snooker is currently in desperate need to attract long term sponsors and this type of UNPROFESSIONAL attitude does little to help their collective cause.

Yes Ronnie is the biggest draw, one of the most talented ever, a multiple world champion. But does this give him a free pass to do as he pleases, does it....really?

I think Rodney and Mrs Lee would make excellent choices.

PS
One mans gentleman is another mans robot :D

I'm sure he would enjoy it for a while, until he was broke and living hand to mouth of course! :D

IF you had to select 3 U.S. players to promote worldwide to change the image of American Pool, who would they be? YOU CAN SELECT UP TO 3 PLAYERS IN THE POLL!!!

Please take into consideration the attitude and personality as well as their playing ability.

If your selection is not listed, select other and reply with your pic.

Remember, the players have to be american citizens.

I voted for Archer, Corey and Schmidt but I believe the list should be of at least the 10 most marketable American players.

I would also include Gabe Owen, Rodney Morris, Tony Robles, Tommy Kennedy, Jeanette Lee, Jennifer Barretta, and do not forget about that teen sensation Landon Shuffet.

This entire group or divided into 2 groups would excellent Ambassadors to promote and change the image of American Pool throughout the entire World. Just imagine all these players at any event in American Malls, Schools, Universities, Charities, etc. They all dress impecable, have great disposition with people, are very corteous, and would be extreme fun to be with at any time.

There are definitely more players (including all the Internationals) that fit the profile of marketing the game World-wide, not just at the American level.

There could easily be more than 100 players around the World falling into this category. I guess we should expand this thread or create a new one to include all those we would favor to promote our sport around the World.

Richie Orem is a good choice. Orem, LiL Jon, and Earl are 3 top choices. Earl is pols version of Phil Hellmuth, one of the most marketable players in poker even tho 75% of the public can't stand the guy.

Where's Phil by the way? haven't seem him reach the final table for a long time now! there was this young kid who was also a loudmouth except that this one is just plain arrogant and unlikeable, glad he didn't reach the main event! Phil, on the otherhand is likeable in an annoying way !:D I also like Jamie Gold (opposite of Phil's character). I was expecting him to win the event and I'm glad he did.
